local government through
hands-on experience as the
group traveled to the Mont
gomery County Court
house, Montgomery Coun
ty Sheriff’s Department,
and Montgomery County
Tax Commissioner’s Of
fice.
This group of stu
dents is comprised of 1st-
5th grade gifted and high
achieving students who
have been discussing gov
ernment, rules and laws.
During their field trip,
students were able to tour
the facilities and gain a
greater understanding for
what each elected official
does. They were also able
to review artifacts from
Montgomery County’s past
within the display cases in
the Courthouse.
“We are always open
to the children of our com
munity, and look forward
to their visits,” Sheriff Doug

one of the 62,000 students
from across the country to
earn academic honors from
College Board’s National
Recognition Programs.
These national recog
nition programs grant un
derrepresented students
with academic honors that
can be included on col
lege and scholarship ap
plications. These honors
can help these students
to stand out during the
admissions process since
colleges and scholarship
programs use the honors
to identify such students
through College Board’s
Student Search Service.
Students who may be
eligible for this honor must
have a GPA of 3.5 or high
er, have excelled on the
PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT
10, or earned a score of 3
or higher on two or more
AP Exams. These students
attend school in a rural area
or small town. Eligible stu
dents are invited to apply
during their sophomore or
junior year, and are award
ed at the beginning of the
next school year.
Davis, who is a mem
ber of the VHS Sound
Tribe and Show Choir,
earned this recognition
by excelling on his PSAT/
NMSQT, PSAT 10, or AP
Exams and in the class
room.

NOTICE: SEEKING QUALIFIED CANDIDATES TO
SERVE ON MONTGOMERY COUNTY BOARD OF
ELECTIONS & REGISTRATION
The Montgomery County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates to serve on the
Montgomery County Board of Elections & Registration. The Board of Elections & Registration requires
a board of five members. The qualifications and requirements for members to serve on the Montgomery
County Board of Elections & Registration are set forth in Local Act No. 614 of House Bill 1015 of the
Georgia General Assembly as follows:
• Board members shall be an elector and resident of the county.
• The initial members of the board shall be appointed for terms of office beginning January 1, 2023. The
commissioners shall designate two of the initial members to serve for terms of two years and three of the initial
members to serve for terms of four years. Thereafter, all members shall be appointed for terms of four years.
• No person who holds elective public office or member of his or her immediate family shall be eligible to serve
as a member of the board during the term of such elective service. The position of any member of the board shall
be deemed vacant upon such members, or upon a member of such members immediate family, qualifying as a
candidate for elective public office. Further, there shall be no members of the same immediate family serving on
the board or on the staff of the board at the same time. “Immediate family” shall be defined as a spouse, mother,
father, stepmother, stepfather, grandmother, grandfather, child, stepchild, brother, sister, stepbrother, stepsister,
half-brother, or half-sister.
• Board members must have been registered to vote in Montgomery County prior to the date of appointment.
• Board members shall become certified by satisfactorily completing a certification program as set forth in Code
Section 21-2-101 of the O.C.G.A.
• Board members shall exercise all the powers granted to him or her and shall perform all the duties imposed upon
him or her as set forth in Code Section 21-2-70 of the O.C.G.A.
• Board members shall be authorized and empowered to organize itself, determine its procedural rules and
regulations, adopt bylaws, specify the functions and duties of its members, and otherwise take such action as is
appropriate to the management of its affairs; provided, however, that no such action shall conflict with state law.
Any action and decision taken by the board shall be by a majority vote of the members of the board.
• Board members shall fix and establish directives, by appropriate resolution entered on its minutes, governing
the execution of matters within its jurisdiction. The board shall hold a minimum of quarterly meetings at times,
dates, and places as determined by the board. Any special meetings shall be called by the chairperson or any three
members of the board. All meetings of whatever kind of the board shall be conducted pursuant to Chapter 14 of
Title 50 of the O.C.G.A., relating to open meetings. The board shall maintain a written record of policy decisions
that shall be amended to include additions or deletions. Such written records shall be subject to Article 4 of
Chapter 18 of Title 50 of the O.C.G.A., relating to inspection of public records.
Board members are compensated $50.00 per meeting and reimbursed for all expenses associated with the
duties of the Board of Elections & Registration.

County Board of Commissioners’ Office located at 310 West Broad Street, Mount Vernon, Georgia or you
may download a board application at www.montcoga.gov. Click on “Board Appointment Application”
and “Criminal History Release Form.”
Applications may be dropped off in person at the Board of Commissioners’ Office or mailed to:
Montgomery County BOC, PO Box 295, Mount Vernon, GA 30445. Applications are due by Friday,
