took to the mat on
Thursday at Vidalia High
School to take part in the
Sweet Onion Classic.

competed in the coed di
vision and won first
place.
Coach Tilly Chris
tian said, “Thank you to
all the family friends,
and fans who came to
cheer us on! We scored
our highest score of the
season so far, and we’re
going to keep putting in
the work to put our best
routine on the mat. We
participated in the Pink
Out tonight to honor the
life of Christy Powell.
We remember those who
fought and we are cheer
ing for those who con
tinue to fight.”

ing team competed at the
Battle in the Boro this
past Saturday at States
boro High School. There
were two 7A teams, one
6A team, and two 2A
teams competing in the
co-ed division.
The TCHS Cheer
Dawgs hit their best rou
tine of the season so far
and came home with a
1st place win. They also
scored their highest
score of the season and
are ready to get back to
work to prepare for this
upcoming Saturday’s
competition at Forsyth
Central.
Wheeler Falls In State Playoffs

The Wheeler County
High School softball
team took part in the
GHSA A Division II Su
per Regionals last week.
They dropped their first
game to Emanuel County
Institute, bounced back
with a win over Seminole
County, but then fell to
Charlton County to end
their season. The Bull
dogs ended the season
with a record of 10-16.
vs. ECI
Wheeler got on the
board first with a run in
the top of the first in
ning, but ECI came back
with three in the bottom
of the frame to take a 3-1
lead.
Wheeler tied the
game in the top of the
third inning at 3-3, but a
big bottom half from ECI
gave them control of the
game. They plated five
more runs to take an 8-3
lead. ECI added two
more in the fifth inning
and one in the sixth to
win the game 11-3 over
Wheeler.
That sent Wheeler
into the losers' bracket
where they faced off with
Seminole County,
vs. Seminole
Wheeler jumped on
top of Seminole in the
top of the first inning
with four runs to take a
4-0 lead. Wheeler added
three more runs in the
second inning to take a
7-0 lead. Seminole
scored a run in the bot
tom of the second inning
to make it 7-1.
Wheeler plated three
more runs in the third
inning to push the lead
to 11-1. Seminole made
it 11-2 in the bottom of
the frame, but three
more from Wheeler in
the fourth inning made it
14-2. It was 14-3 after
the bottom of the fourth
inning, and Wheeler
took the win, 14-3.
vs. Charlton
In the bottom of the
first inning Charlton
took the lead with four
runs and added a run in
the second inning to lead
5-0.
Charlton scored
three more in the fourth
inning to take an 8-0
lead. Wheeler closed the
lead to 8-3 in the top of
the fifth inning, but
Charlton plated three in
the bottom half to win
the game 11-3.
That ended the sea
son for the Bulldogs.
BPC Cross Country Picks Up Win at
16th Annual Sand Shark Invitational

College Men’s Cross
Country team picked up
the first win in over two
seasons with a top-place
finish at the 16th Annual
Sand Shark Invitational
hosted by South Caro-
lina-Beaufort.
The Barons earned
the first-place honor with
a team score of 39 points
with a total time of
2:25:31 to beat out three
other teams on Saturday
morning.
DeMario Thomas led
the way with a fourth-
place finish with a time of
28:27.7 followed by Bri
ley Reyes in fifth with a
time of 28:29.3. Jacob
Hackenberry completed
a time of 28:37.9 for sev
enth while Hunter Mil-
hollin finished 10th with
a time of 29:05.8.
DJ Christensen pro
duced a time of 30:50.7
for 14th place followed
by Mason Smith in 15th
place with a time of
30:50.9. Chris Smith
earned the Barons’ last
points with a time of
31:13.8 for 16th in the
field.
Jordan Hackett fin
ished 17th with Eric
Smith in 18th followed
by Teddy Ortiz in 20th.

Top-20 Preseason Poll,
the national office an
nounced.
The Barons earned
23 points to land in the
receiving votes section of
the poll with a pair of
BPC student-athletes
listed among the individ
ual ranks as well.
Dennis McNeal leads
the way with a top-five
ranking, landing fourth
overall in the 125-lb
weight class with 110
points. Joel Faglier lands
at 25th in the individual
rankings with seven
points in the 285-lb
weight class.
The Barons open the
season at the Patriot
Open on Nov. 5 in Wil
liamsburg, Ky.
Shootout For Vikings

There were just a few
points scored in the
Treutlen County High
School vs. Hawkinsville
football game on Friday
night of last week in
Hawkinsville. There were
a total of 120 points put on
the board between the two
teams, including 48 points
in the first half of the game.
The Hawkinsville Red
Devils took the win over
the Treutlen Vikings, but
the offense came to play on
Friday night.
The Devils put on a
show on Friday as they
racked up 34 points in the
first half of the game.
Treutlen managed to score
14 points, but had yet to
find they rhythm.
In the second half of
the game Hawkinsville
struck first with a rushing
touchdown with less than
six minutes left in the quar
ter. They missed the PAT
but were on top 40-14.
On the ensuing kickoff
the Vikings took it back for
the touchdown to quickly
close the gap to 40-22 after
the added the two-point
conversion.
Hawkinsville an
swered with two minutes
to go on another rushing
touchdown. They again
missed the extra point, but
were on top 46-22.
Hawkinsville added an
other touchdown early in
the fourth quarter and
made the extra point to
push their lead to 53-22.
Treutlen found the
end zone again on another
kick return for a touch
down. With the two-point
conversion they made the
score 53-30.
With 10 minutes to go,
the score was 60-30 after
another Devil touchdown.
Treutlen made it 60-36
with a passing touchdown,
but another from Hawkins
ville pushed them back out
to a 66-36 lead.
With nine minutes to
go in the game, Hawkins
ville was in for another
score to go ahead 76-74
after the two-point try.
The Vikings scored
the final touchdown of the
game with five minutes left
in the game. They added
the two-point conversion
to make the final score 76-
44with Hawkinsville on
top.
The Vikings are now
0-8 on the year. This Fri
day Treutlen will travel to
Alamo to face off with rival
Wheeler County with
kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
Youth Wrestling Signups At VHS

School Wrestling Team
will host a sign-up night
for their Roll Tribe Youth
Wrestling Club on Tues
day, November 1. The
event will take place at the
Vidalia Wrestling Gym and
begin at 6:00 p.m..
Entrance into the
Monday Night League is
$50 per wrestler and is
open to all students K-5.
Each participant will re
ceive a T-Shirt with the
registration fee.

och. It was a challenging
course but the Indians
brought home three med
als from the race.
Georgia Meredith led
the way for VHS with a
fourth place finish. An
drew Hodges took fifth
place and Seth MacGregor
came in sixth.
The boys varsity team
placed second to South
east Bulloch as a team with
Hodges, MacGregor,
Chamlee Evans, Cash
Driggers, Jude Owen,
Abrien Anthony and
Hunter Loosberg.

bee said, “Overall this team
steps up to some signifi
cant challenges and com
petition and always per
forms very well. We reset
our sights to next Thurs
day at Jeff Davis for a very
flat, fast course. This will
be our last regular season
scheduled meet with the
Regional Meet right
around the corner on Oc
tober 26, at Toombs
County.

The Southern States
Athletic Conference has
announced the 2022-23
Women’s and Men's Bas
ketball Preseason Poll on
Wednesday afternoon.
Brewton-Parker women’s
basketball was selected to
finish tied for second
place in the conference by
SSAC coaches with 78
points. The men’s team
was selected to finish 11th
in the conference by
SSAC coaches with 13
voting points.
Women
“It’s always good
when your colleagues
around the league think
highly of your team/pro -
gram,” Head Coach Steve
Edwards said. “We have
six players who have been
All-Conference selections
at different points in their
careers. We are talented,
but I’m more excited
about the camaraderie
and the team chemistry
we have.”
“We believe we have a
connected group that’s
bought into the right
things,” Edwards added.
“We look forward to con
tinuing to get better every
day. We’re excited to get
going and we’re thankful
we get a chance to work
with this group.”
Loyola (La.) was the
unanimous choice at the
top of the poll with 100
points and all 10 first-
place votes. Faulkner
(Ala.) shared second with
the Lady Barons with 78
points followed by Mo
bile (Ala.) and William
Carey (Miss.) sharing
fourth with 62 points.
Stillman (Ala.) was
selected sixth with 49
points with Talladega
(Ala.) closely behind with
47 points for seventh.
Blue Mountain (Miss.)
picked up 28 points for
eighth with Middle Geor
gia securing 27 points for
ninth. Life (Ga.) rounds
out the poll with 19
points in 10th.
The Lady Barons
open the 2022-23 cam
paign on the road with a
pair of neutral site match
ups on Oct. 28-29 with
the SSAC opener set for
Nov. 17 against William
Carey in Gillis Gymna
sium.
Men
“It’s always good to
see preseason polls come
out for the basketball sea
son; that means we are
pretty close to tipping
things off,” Head Coach
Leonard Epps said. “Our
guys have been locked
into practice and getting
better every day.”
Faulkner (Ala.)
claimed the top spot in
the poll with 120 points
and 10 of the first-place
votes followed by Still
man (Ala.) in second with
108 points. Mobile (Ala.)
landed at third in the poll
with 84 points with
Loyola (La.) receiving 80
points and the final first-
place vote for fourth.
William Carey
(Miss.) captured fifth
with 71 points while Dal
ton State (Ga.) was placed
sixth with 67 points. Tal
ladega (Ala.) earned 62
points for seventh with
Middle Georgia in eighth
with 55 points. Life (Ga.)
and Blue Mountain
(Miss.) were selected
ninth and 10th, earning
35 points as well as 31
points, respectively.
“I think what you see
in the preseason poll is
pretty accurate based on
last year,” Epps added.
“We are hard at work to
see a huge difference in
where people see us pre
season and where we end
the season. The best thing
about college basketball is
you control your destiny
if you take care of busi
ness.”
The Barons open the
2022-23 campaign with a
home contest against
Paine (Ga.) on Nov. 3 at
7:30 p.m. ET with the
first SSAC matchup set
for Nov. 17 against Wil
liam Carey in Gillis Gym
nasium.
