Mrs. Dorothy Woods
Mrs. Dorothy Horton
Woods, age 94, died on
Sunday, March 19, 2023, at
her home.
Mrs. Woods was born
in Scott and was a lifelong
resident of Emanuel and
Johnson counties. She at
tended school in Adrian,
where she played basket
ball for the Red Devils and
was a member of the class
of 1947. She worked as an
Accountant and Bookkeep
er for Swainsboro Auto
Parts and Supply (NAPA)
for over 40 years before
joining S&N Auto Supply,
retiring after an additional
20 years. She was a lifelong
member of Poplar Springs
Church. She was preceded
in death by her parents,
Perry and Delila Thigpen
Horton; her husband, J.R.
Woods; her siblings, Haiti
Childers, Nina Webb, Co
rine Stewart, Elias Hor
ton, Clarence Horton, and
W.H. Horton; her daughter
and son-in-law, Linda Sue
Woods Futrill and Gary
Futrill.
Survivors include her
grandchildren, Melinda
Hall, John Futrill (Peggy),
Columbia, SC, and Amy
Knight (Shawn), Jack-
son; great-grandchildren,
Mercedes Josey (Kaleb),
Savannah, Rhett Mixon
(Karina), Adrian, Heav
en Mixon, Cullman, AL,
Serenity Faircloth (Aus
tin), Adrian, Gage Futrill,
Statesboro, Malina McK-
inzie, Adrian, Karl Knight,
Jackson, and Mason
Knight, Jackson; great-
great-grandchildren, John
Rhett Mixon, Asher Abi
gail Josey, and Olivia Rose
Mixon; and many nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services will
be conducted on Sunday,
March 26, 2023, at 4:00
p.m., at Poplar Springs
Church, with Pastor Mark
Hardin officiating. Inter
ment will follow in the
church cemetery.
Her family will receive
friends on Saturday from
5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Sam
mons Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be
Tommy Webb, Todd
Webb, Wade Webb, J.D.
Webb, Darin Dobson and
Doug Williams.

79, of Vidalia, died on Fri
day, March 10, 2023, at
Community .
Hospice fol
lowing an
extended ill
ness.
Mr. Papp
was born in Cleveland,
OH. He was a United
States Army veteran. He
was a sales and marketing
professional after his ser
vice in the US Army. He
was a business owner and
a commercial property in
spector. He was preceded
in death by his parents, Jo
seph Papp and Charlotte
Homyk.
Survivors include 3
sons, Charles Papp of Del
Ray Beach, FL, Joseph
Papp and daughter-in-
law Alisa of Guyton, and
Russell Papp of Pompano
Beach, FL; 3 grandsons,
Alexander Cochran, and
Clayton and Brayden Papp;
and his wife, Edith Papp of
Cleveland OH.
A private family ser
vice will be held at a later
date.

Mrs. Ellen Turner
Mrs. Ellen Louise
Turner “Nana Ma,” age 89,
of Glenwood, died Sunday,
March 19, 2023, at Com
munity Hospice House in
Vidalia after an extended
illness. She was a native
of Toombs County, living
most of her life in Hazle-
hurst. She graduated from
Glynn Academy in 1951
and worked with the Unit
ed States Postal Service as
a rural carrier in Appling
and Wheeler Counties for
more than 20 years. She
was a member of Phila
delphia Baptist Church.
In her spare time, she
loved reading, crossword
puzzles, gossip papers and
especially loved spend
ing time with her family.
She is preceded in death
by her husband, Eugene
Talmadge Turner; parents,
James Marshall Casteel and
Nancy Iola Isdell Casteel;
brothers, Clinton Hood,
James Hood and Jessie
Hood; sisters, Ruth McK
enzie, Myrtle Hood, Julie
Whitaker; and a grandson,
Trey Ford.
Her family includes
one stepson, Carol Eu
gene “Pete” Turner of Sa
vannah; three daughters,
Tammie Turner Ford and
husband Bobby of Five
Points, Chrystine Turner
and husband Bobby Sin
clair of Glenwood and
Melissa Gonzalez and hus
band Carlos of Baxley; sis
ter-in-law, Rosa Bowen of
Hazlehurst; ten grandchil
dren, Delayna Turner and

and husband Lee, Samuell

grandchildren; and several
nieces, nephews, other rel
atives and many friends she
called family.
The funeral service
will be Wednesday, March
22, at 11:00 a.m., in the
chapel of Ronald V. Hall
Funeral Home. Burial will
follow in Philadelphia Bap
tist Church Cemetery in
Hazlehurst.
The family received
friends at Ronald V. Hall
Funeral Home on Tuesday
evening, March 21, from
6:00 until 8:00.

Montgomery County
Commission Raises
Jurors’ Fees

In its regular monthly
meeting on March 13,
the Montgomery County
Commission handled a
number of housekeeping
items related to renewal of
annual contracts, health
care, and raising jurors’
fees.
New Business
The Commission ad
opted a resolution to ap
prove the Grand Jury’s rec
ommendation to increase
jury fees from $15 to $25
per day. The measure was
taken to make the fees paid
in Montgomery County
comparable to those paid
by other area counties. The
new jury fees will go into
effect January 1, 2024.
Also, the Commission
voted to renew the coun
ty’s health insurance ben
efit through DIYBS. There
are 30 employees that are
currently on the county’s
health insurance plan. The
total annual cost to the
county is $146,160.
Commissioners ap
proved a resolution to ap
ply for a $750,000 Com
munity Development
Block Grant through the
Georgia Department of
Community Affairs to pave
Hardeman Road and Bow-
tie Circle. The resolution
authorizes the grant appli
cation.
Consent Agenda Items
The Commission ap
proved an amendment
to the local Government
Scrap Tire Abatement
Reimbursement Agree
ment with the Georgia
Environmental Protection
Division. County Admin
istrator Brandon Braddy
explained that the grant
agreement did not cover
the entire cost of the dis
posal of the scrap tires from
the December 2022 scrap
tire round-up. The EPD
will cover the entire cost
in the amount of $16, 425.
The original agreement
was short by $282.
The Commission
voted to enter into an
agreement with AirMed-
Care Network for group
full membership to cover
county employees for one
year at a cost of $2,451.
Commissioners ap
proved the renewal of an
annual contract with the
Community Service Board
of Middle Georgia to pro
vide behavioral health
services for Montgomery
County. Braddy explained
that this contract was ap
proved to supplement
the Community Service
Board’s budget to provide
behavioral health services
and alcohol services to
Montgomery County resi
dents. Services will be pro
vided to those clients that
are suitable for referral.
Also approved was
renewal of annual CAD/
mapping maintenance
contract with Ryzyliant,
Inc. for the E911 Center at
a cost of $5,707.80.
