Johnson, Germannick Dur

the outside for VHS.
Adrian Newkirk and Jer
ryon Roundtree will also
be on the outside running
routes for the Indians.
Washington will be at tight
end and will also get flexed
out and has some of the
best hands on the team and
will be relied on in key situ
ations.
Up front for VHS, an
choring the offensive line at
center will be Levi Palmer,
who will take on that role in
the middle. Beverly will be
a key at tackle with Thomas
at left guard. Lehmon
Thomas will sit at the other
guard, and Stephen Cheeks
will be at the other tackle
for the Indians. They are
good size and speed and
will use them to work the
run game. There are other
players that will rotate into
those line positions that
will help VHS in certain
situations.
Moving over the de
fensive side Jarques Mitch
ell will be a key player on
the defensive line at end

Jones and Sapp will be on
the inside. Barron will play
at free safety and take on
the center field position for
VHS. McClendon will be
at one of the cornerback
spots with Ricks and
Oglesby rotating at the
other corner.
Over on special teams
Adam Crutchfield and
Lake Wright will both get
chances to kick for the Indi
ans this season. Sapp will
be the long snapper this
season and take on that piv
otal role for the special
teams.
Coach Garvin added,
“Dr. Wilcox was the one
that called me and asked
me to come back to this
program, and he has just
been extremely supportive
of what we are trying to do.
Mr. Mulkey, our Principal, I
didn’t know him when I
came over, but he is just all
about Vidalia. He wants
this school to be successful
in every aspect from aca
demics to athletics. Tommy
Dailey at Athletic Director
has embraced his role and
he is Vidalia. This commu
nity just comes to us and
asks us what we need; we
never have to go out and try
to find things.
“This team has just
come together and decided
that hard work won’t hurt
them, and they are going to
put in the effort and work
hard for us. They are giving
us everything they have,
and I can’t ask for more
than that.”
When asked about Re
gion 3AA, one of the
toughest regions in the
state, Coach Garvin stated,
“We know that this is a
tough region. I know all
coaches say that we are go
ing to take it one game at a
time, but that is really all
that we can do. I can’t worry
about who is ranked at the
top of the lists in preseason.
We have to work our way
into the hunt. You have to
ready every week, and
when we do start region
play, we have to clicking on
all cylinders.”
Region 3AA is the only
region in the state that has
two, top five preseason
teams, with Pierce County
at #2 and Appling County
at #4. It will be a battle for
the Indians to take one of
the top four spots to make
it into the State Playoffs.
The Indians will open
their season on August 18,
on the road at South Effing
ham with kickoff at 7:30
p.m. They will start the re
gion schedule on Septem
ber 22 against Windsor
Forest, and the cross
county rivalry game against
Toombs County will be the
last game of the regular sea
son on November 3, at
home.
