MoCo Grand Jury Indicts Kibbee Shooter

The Montgomery
County Grand Jury re
turned 28 true bills in its
session on Monday August
18, indicting several, includ
ing Hunter Blake Kersey
Kersey is charged with
malice murder, felony mur
der, and aggravated assault
in the death of Mason Mc
Carty On June 4, at around
7:20 p.m., the GBI was re
quested by the Montgom
ery County Sheriff's Office
in reference to a shooting
that occurred near Jake Mc-
Caw Road. The victim was
identified as Mason Mc
Carty, 23, of Vidalia, who
was taken to the hospital,
where he later died.
During the investiga
tion, law enforcement de
termined that McCarty and
Kersey were involved in
a confrontation when the
shooting occurred. Previ
ously, Kersey claimed that
he acted in self-defense, but
after further inquiry into
the case, the GBI has found
evidence to charge Kersey
with murder and aggravated
assault.
Kersey will now enter a
plea and begin his trial pro
cess.

VPD Investigating
Saturday Bomb Threat

Police were heavily
present along Highway 280
East in Vidalia on Saturday
night, August 19, as they
worked to investigate a
bomb threat at the Family
Dollar.
At approximately 8:40
p.m., officers were dis
patched to the scene in ref
erence to this threat. Upon
arrival, they contacted
store employees and evacu
ated the store to conduct a
search. During the search,
officers located an item of
concern within the store.
Due to this discovery,
the entire shopping center
that housed the store was
evacuated and the Georgia
Bureau of Investigation -
Bomb Disposal Unit was
requested to assist. A certi
fied bomb technician was
able to deem the item and
location safe, and the store
was turned back over to the
employees without further
incident.
The Vidalia Police De
partment would like to ex

Office, Toombs County
Emergency Management
Agency, Toombs-Mont-
gomery EMS, and Vidalia
