Mr. Kenny Moncus
Mr. Kenny E. Moncus,
age 64, of Calhoun, died on
Thursday, September 21,
2023, at his home, follow
ing an extended illness.
Mr. Moncus was
born in Vidalia and was a
1977 graduate of Robert
Toombs Christian Acad
emy in Lyons. He grew up
in Toombs County, lived in
Sandersville for a few years
before moving to Calhoun
in 1999. He was a land
surveyor and worked with
Georgia Power for many
years. He was Baptist by
faith. He was preceded in
death by his parents, Eu
gene Carlton Moncus and
Lola Mae O’Quinn Mon
cus.
His family includes his
wife, Sharon Poole Moncus
of Calhoun; 2 sons, Brian
Kenneth Moncus and wife
Lacy, and Bradley Kendall
Moncus and wife Katie,
all of Sandersville; 2 step
daughters, Ashley Booth
and Miranda Escobar and
husband Carlos, all of Cal
houn; 1 sister, Jenny Mon
cus of Vidalia; 2 brothers,
David Moncus and wife
Beverly of Mt. Vernon, and
Danny Moncus and wife
Teresa of Vidalia; 10 grand
children; and several nieces
and nephews.
The graveside funeral
service was Tuesday morn
ing, September 26, at
12:00 noon, at Lakeview
Memorial Gardens, with
his brother, David Moncus,
and son, Brian Moncus, of
ficiating.
Pallbearers were Brian
Moncus, Brad Moncus,
David Moncus, Danny
Moncus, Chad Moncus,
Clint Moncus, and John
McDonald.

Mrs. Frances Sharpe
Mrs. Frances Savage
Sharpe, age 88, of Lyons,
died on Tuesday, Septem
ber 19, 2023, at her home
after an extended illness.
Mrs. Sharpe was a na
tive of Elberta, AL, briefly
living in Eastman and Sa
vannah before moving to
Lyons in the mid 1940s.
She was a 1953 graduate
of Lyons High School. She
began a 30-year career in
banking in Lyons at Peo
ples Bank, later working at
First National Bank of Je-
sup and returned to Lyons,
retiring from Peoples Bank.
She was a member of Grace
Presbyterian Community
Church in Lyons, where
she sang in the choir. Pre
ceding her death were her
husband of 67 years, Carl
R. Sharpe; 1 son, Shan
non Sharpe; her parents,
Thomas Cleveland Savage,
Jr., and Lula Beatrice Car
ney Savage; and 1 brother,
Woodie Savage.
Her family includes
1 son, Sandy Sharpe; 3
grandchildren, Cameron
Sharpe and wife Paula, all
of Lyons, Mikell Sharpe,
USAF of Goldsboro, NC,
and Jordan Wilt Matthews
and husband Justin of the
Normantown Communi

Mr. Daniel Roundtree,
age 75, died on Saturday,
September 16, 2023, fol
lowing an extended illness.
Mr. Roundtree attend
ed J.D. Dickerson Train
ing Center in Vidalia and
moved to New Brunswick,
NJ, in 1970. He worked
at Ford Motor Company,
the East Brunswick Pub
lic School System, and
the Disability Facility for
Children in New Jersey.
He moved back to Geor
gia and worked at Lyons
Nursing Home in Lyons
and Roundtree-Multi Ser
vices with his twin brother
Joseph. He played the po
sition of catcher with the
Hawks in New Jersey and
the MLK League in Long
Beach, CA. He was pre
ceded in death by his fa
ther, Eddie Lee Roundtree;
his mother, Juanita
Roundtree; his broth
ers, Larry, Ben, and Willie
Roundtree; and his sisters,
Evelyn, Charity, Irene, and
Daisy Roundtree.
Survivors include 3

Mr. Tommy Spoto
Mr. Tommy Spoto, age
85, of Bethlehem, died on
Saturday, September 23,
2023, at his home, follow
ing an extended illness.
Mr. Spoto was a native
of Tampa, FL, and was a
1956 graduate of Jefferson
High School in Tampa. He
moved to Toombs County
in the early ; ^

Parker College in Mt. Ver
non. He worked as a sales
man for Georgia Tire in
Vidalia for many years. He
served in the Army Na
tional Guard in Lyons for
22 years, 4 of those years
were full-time, retiring as
Sergeant first Class. He
was a member of Sacred
Heart Catholic Church in
Vidalia serving as church
pianist for 25 years and was
a member of the Knights
of Columbus. He was a
member of the Versatile
Band for several years, and
the Vidalia Bowling As
sociation, where he was
later inducted into Vidalia
Bowling Hall of Fame. Pre
ceding him in death were 1
son, David Wayne Spoto;
his parents, Joseph Spoto
and Mary Ida Pellegrino
Spoto; and 1 sister, Mary
Ann Spoto.
His family includes
his wife of 57 years, Bar
bara Spoto of Bethlehem;
2 sons, Eric Spoto and wife
Sheila of Dacula, and Craig

Mrs. Martha Newton
Mrs. Martha Horne
Newton, age 71, of Glen-
wood, died on Wednesday,
September 20, 2023, at
the Community Hospice
House in Vidalia after an
extended illness.
Mrs. Newton was a na
tive of Montgomery Coun
ty, grew up in Mt. Vernon
and lived in Glenwood
most of her life. She was a
1981 graduate of Regents
Nursing School in Baxley.
She was a licensed practical
nurse and was dedicated to
her profession for 30 years,
working with Meadows
Regional Medical Center,
Dr. Robert Clark, Care
One and Dr. J. Bhimami.
She attended Glenwood
Church of God. Preceding
her in death were her par
ents, Henry Thomas Horne
and Wilma Eudene Spivey
Horne; and 5 siblings, Bob
by Horne, Danny Horne,
Vickey Horne Lowther,
Nola Horne Dixon, and an
infant sister, Barbara Ann
Horne.
Her family includes
her husband of 42 years,
Van Newton of Glenwood;

2023, at Memorial Health
Meadows Hospital in Vida
lia after an extended illness.
Mr. Randall was a na
tive of Toombs County,
living all over the United
States, traveling for work
until mov- ^
ing back to
Vidalia in
2007. After
graduating
from Lyons
High School he joined the
United States Navy, where
he operated the radar, then
later joined the Corps of
Engineers as a marine elec
trician. He was a founding
member of the Ohoopee
Canoe Club. He is preced
ed in death by his parents,
David Randall and Edna
Marchman Randall; and
2 brothers, Rusty Randall
and Robert Randall.
His family includes 2
children, Brett Randall of
Vidalia and Kayla Noble
and husband Matt of Tul
sa, OK; 2 grandchildren,
Mattie Noble and Sawyer
Noble; and several nieces,
nephews, friends and other
relatives.
A memorial service
will be held on Wednesday,
September 27, at 3:00 p.m.,
in the chapel of Ronald V.
Hall Funeral Home.
The family will receive
friends at the funeral home
on Wednesday from 2:00
until just prior to the ser
vice.

The two sisters had
probably passed each
other many times and
never knew it. As “Mag
gie,” Doreen’s appearance
had changed so that, I
hear, nobody would have
connected the two
women.
Max made a phone
call to Marie and filled in
the blanks.
Somewhere in a cem
etery near Stilesboro, a
grave is marked, “Marga
ret, the wife of..."
Max said last week
there were fresh flowers
on the grave.

Mrs. Aileen Nobles,
age 98, ofVidalia, died on
Tuesday, September 19,
2023, at her home after a
brief illness.
Mrs. Nobles was
born in Cornelius, NC.
She graduated from high
school in Cornelius and
attended business school.
She and her late husband
moved to Vidalia in the
late 1940s. They were the
owners of Skyways, Inc.,
at Vidalia Municipal Air
port, and she worked as the
company’s office manager.
She was a member of First
Baptist Church ofVidalia.
She was preceded in death
by her parents, James Al
bert Poole and Etta Jane
Christie Poole; her hus
band of 78 years, B.E. “Kin”
Nobles; 1 daughter, Pat
Nobles Chandler; 3 broth
ers, Jimmy Poole, Harold
Poole and Chester Poole;
and 2 sisters, Mildred
Poole Mayhew and Sue
Poole McEveen.
