tian Academy competition
cheerleaders traveled to
West Laurens this past Sat
urday to compete at their
first cheerleading competi
tion of the season. RTCA
took home second place at
the event.
Coach Maddie Adams
said, "Our routine was su
per clean going into our
first competition. It was a
great competition to be
able to perform and get
some of our new girls' con
fidence up. We had a few
mistakes during our pyra
mid, but that gives us
something to work on
more at practice. I'm super
excited to see how these
girls grow throughout the
rest of the season and can't
wait to watch them com
pete again next weekend."
The next competition
will be October 7, at 10:00
a.m. at Bulloch Academy.

the past two weekends and

second place trophies.

The Toombs County
Varsity Competition Cheer
Dawgs competed in their
first competition of the sea
son on September 23 at the
Middle Georgia Cheer Clas
sic at Houston County High
School. They faced some
adversity in the days leading
up to this competition with
three athletes experiencing
injuries. They worked hard
to rearrange the routine and
had a lot of athletes step up
in big ways to be able to
compete.
They were one of four
teams in the co-ed division
and took home 2nd place
with a score of 86.
On the middle school
side, the TCMS Competi
tion Cheer Dawgs placed
2nd at their 1st competition
of the season at Bacon
County’s Blueberry Classic.
West Laurens
TCHS Competition
Cheer Dawgs were back at it
again this weekend looking
to bring home some hard
ware.
The Varsity Cheer
Dawgs competed in the
Raider Rumble at West Lau
rens High School, bringing
home 2nd place and a score
that sets a new school re
cord. But the coaches said
that they know there’s more
work to be done.
The Middle School
Cheer Dawgs competed in
the Gamecock Challenge at
GSU on Saturday and
brought home 2nd place.
This week, both the
High School and Middle
School Competition teams
have the week off.
Barons
continued from page 12B
minute, but the shot was
blocked. After some time and
some great saves from goal
keeper Nikki Clark, Chako
found the back of the net in
the 43rd minute to finish the
first half tied.
The Lady Barons were
outplayed 12-3 in shots and
5-1 in shots on goal.
The Rams started the
second half hot, scoring their
second goal of the game in
the 49th minute. Chako had
another shot on target in the
54th minute, but was saved
by the Rams’ keeper.
Mobile continued to put
pressure on BPC with three
more shots, and another goal
in the 67th minute to extend
their lead to 3-1.
There soon started a lit
tle spark in the Lady Barons’
offense as Chako had two
opportunities in the 69th and
73rd minutes, with Natalia
Esquivel finding an opportu
nity at a shot in the 77th
minute. Unfortunately, none
of these opportunities found
the back of the net.
After a save from Clark,
the Rams found the back of
the net once again in the
82nd minute, making their
lead 4-1 and sealing the three-
goal advantage for the win.
The Lady Barons were
outmatched 28-7 in shots
and 13-2 in shots on goal.
Clark had a total of 9 saves.
Chako led the team with five
shots and one goal.

11-ranked Mobile (Ala.) in
Mount Vernon, Ga. The Bar
ons (1-8-0, 0-4-0 SSAC)
dropped four goals to the
Rams (5-2-2,4-0-1 SSAC) in
a tough loss on home soil.
“We gave ourselves a
mountain to climb after con
ceding in the first five min
utes, a specter that continues
to visit,” Head Coach Bob
Neumann said. “Experience
was the difference tonight.”
“Too many times we got
ourselves put into situations
that we could’ve dealt with
and didn’t,” Neumann men
tioned. “It’s going to take a
great deal more maturity if
we’re going to get some posi
tive results in the coming
weeks.”
The Rams took advan
tage of an early handball from
the Barons, forcing a comer
kick off a set piece within the
first two minutes of play. Mo
bile slipped through the BPC
defense and slotted home a
goal at the 1:45 mark to take a
one-goal lead.
After a pair of shots from
the visitors, Brewton-Parker
ripped three shots within the
span of two minutes. Two
sailed wide with just one
landing between the posts as
Landon Brafford’s attempt
was saved in the 27th minute.
Mobile took advantage
of a misplaced ball from
Brewton-Parker, scoring a
second goal at the 34:02
mark to lead by a pair. The
Rams were denied two times
by Andrea Abwe in the final
five minutes to close out the
half with a two-goal advan
tage.
Mobile was very fortu
nate to receive a gift from the
BPC backline, as the Barons
gave up an own goal off a bad
clearance in the 53rd minute
to move to a three-goal defi
cit.
With a comfortable lead,
the visitors began reloading
from the bench to provide
depth to the starting lineup.
Eventually, Mobile’s fresh
legs wore Brewton-Parker
down until a fourth goal was
made in the 86th minute for a
4-0 lead.
Despite the pair of goals,
BPC managed to hold the
Rams to just five overall shots
in the second half while also
producing three of their own.
Mobile finished with a
12-6 shot advantage with a
9-1 shot on goal edge as well.
Andrea Abwe finished with
four saves in 90 minutes of
action while Victor Garces
earned one late in the second
half. Landon Brafford re
turned to the lineup after
time oft and led BPC with
three attempts and just one
shot on goal. The Rams held
a 6-0 corner kick advantage.
