Toombs County 4H Earns Honors at
Southeast District Project Achievement

Toombs County 4-H
recently hosted the 2023
Fall Cloverleaf Southeast
District Project Achieve
ment. Over 200 4-H mem
bers in the 4th - 6th grades
from ten Southeast Dis
trict counties attended the
event. Forty-two members
from Toombs County 4-H
participated in the contest,
earning Toombs County
1st place in Highest Num
ber of Participants.
According to Cheryl
Poppell, Toombs County
4-H Coordinator, “Dis
trict Project Achievement,
or DPA, offers youth their
first experience in pub
lic speaking. To compete,
members select a project
area and narrow their in
terest to a specific topic.
Members then prepare and
give a 4 - 6-minute demon
stration about their topic.”
Participants from
Toombs County 4-H are
listed by school.
Nine students from
Lyons Upper Elementary
School participated in
DPA. First place winners
were Landon Brewton
(Current People), Matilyn
Fulmer (Marine & Coast
al Ecology), and Jaylin
Cardwell (Robotics). Sec
ond place winners includ
ed Aaryn Fulmer (Gen
eral Recreation) and Elijah
Clark (Outdoor Recre
ation). Mason Dowdy
(Wildlife) won 3rd place.
Receiving 4th place in the
competition were Neveah
Lawrence (Dog Care),
Athens Boney (Herpetol
ogy), and Tahiry Moseley
(Sports-Individual).
Robert Toombs Chris
tian Academy had two par
ticipants. Easton Moore
(Outdoor Recreation)
earned 1st place. Tilly Bak
er (Performing Arts - Vo
cal) won 2nd place.
Sally Meadows El
ementary School had 7
participants. Earning 1st
place were Henry Zainey
(Food Safety), Gage Kel
ley (General Science), and
Noah Johnson (Videogra-
phy). Harley Adams (Ma
rine and Coastal Ecology),
and Joleny Cruz (Veteri
nary Science) placed 3rd.
Earning 4th place was Ky-
lie Carroll (General Recre
ation) and Kyndal Carroll
(Sports - Individual).
Toombs County Mid
dle School had 12 partici
pants. First place winners
included Shaylah Williams
(Fruits, Vegetables, Nuts),
Sarah Richter (Photog
raphy), Addison Wilcher
(Sports - Individual), and
Carmen Guerrero (Work
force Preparation). Second
place winners included
Zylah Heller (Workforce
Preparation). Third place
winners included Jacque
line Corneja (Marine &
Coastal Ecology) and Vic-
toriana Odom (Workforce
Preparation). Receiving
4th place were Ashelynn
Love (Dog Care), Molly
Williams (Sports - Team),
Trinity Diaz (Sports -
Team), Layla Williams
(Geology) and Brycen
Landrum (Dog Care).
Toombs Central Ele
mentary School had 8 par
ticipants. Charlotte Garrett
(Housing), Jude Coleman
(Plants and Soils), and
Olivia Richter (Swine)
placed 1st. Luke Harden
(Sports - Individual) and
Clayton Cannady (Robot
ics) placed 2nd. Addyson
McLamb placed 3rd. Plac
ing 4th in the competition
was Aria Mathews (Gener
al Recreation), and Savan
nah Duckels (Dog Care).
Vidalia Heritage Acad
emy had three participants.
Earning 1st place was Ade
line Poole (Companion
Animals), and Emily Poole
(Horse). Kyla Nuetzi
(Wildlife) placed 2nd.
The event was a huge
success thanks to a host
of volunteers and teen
leaders who assisted. The
Toombs County 4-H pro
gram is under the direc
tion of 4-H Coordinator
Cheryl Poppell, 4-H Edu
cator Riley Wimberly, and
4-H AmeriCorps Mem
ber Carol Hester. Toombs
County Agriculture Agent
Jason Edenfield also co
coordinated the event.
