can do in this “NFL or
bust” era. Player develop
ment has become a re
cruiting advantage, and
Georgia has one of the
best in all of college foot
ball.
If you make it into the
NFL and spend consider
able time in the profes
sional ranks, you can, with
wise and frugal decisions,
accumulate enough mon
ey to live happily ever after
and enjoy unlimited perks
and benefits.
The lifestyle and op
portunity that is out there
for professional athletes
is remarkable, but there
is one thing missing in all
this. If an athlete doesn’t
take the time to enjoy the
campus experience, he
misses out on something
special.
That should be part of
the reason to sign up to
play this grand old game.
Good Week For Vikings
By Mike Branch

It was a busy week for
the Vikings basketball teams
of Treutlen County High
School. They faced off with
Telfair County on Tuesday,
Wilcox County on Friday
and then Wheeler County
on Saturday. The Lady Vi
kings picked up two wins,
and the boys won all three of
their games.
Girls vs. Telfair
In the girls contest it
was a slow start for both
teams. Treutlen held a one-
point, 6-5, lead at the end of
the first qaurter. But in the
second both of the teams
began to find their mark as
the Vikings pushed their
lead to 25-20 by the end of
the first half.
In the third quarter the
Lady Trojans of Telfair came
storming back and jumped
in front. At the end of the
third the Trojans were on
top 40-37. But Treutlen was
not done, and they caught
and overtook the Trojans in
the fourth quarter. Treutlen
took the win, 61-57.
Boys vs. Telfair
In the boys game the
Vikings pulled away and
took a fairly easy win over
the Trojans. Treutlen won
the game by the score of 65-
53.
vs. Wilcox
The only loss of the
week for Treutlen came at
the hands of the Lady Patri
ots of Wilcox. Wilcox edged
out the Lady Vikings by the
score of49-45.
In the boys contest the
Vikings rolled to an easy win
over Wilcox. The boys won
their game 72-53 over the
Patriots.
vs. Wheeler
Wheeler put up a good
fight in the girls game, but
the Lady Vikings were too
much as they took the win
over their rival. Treutlen
won the contest, 50-41.
That improves the Lady Vi
kings' overall record to 9-5
on the season, and they are
4-1 in Region play.
The boys also got a big
win over the Bulldogs of
Wheeler. Treutlen took the
win, 66-58. The Treutlen
boys are now 9-4 overall and
are also 4-1 in Region play.
This week Treutlen will
host the Tigers of Swains-
boro on Friday night at 6:00
p.m. and then on Saturday
the Eagles of Montgomery
County will come to town
with the first game also at
6:00 p.m.
