Kathryn Hendrix Jarri
el, of Collins, Georgia, died
Tuesday, January 2, 2024,
with her children and fam
ily by her side. Kathryn
was born in Manassas,
Georgia, on February 13,
1939. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Kin-
yard (Pete) Jarriel; parents,
Wilton and Evelyn Wrenn
Hendrix; and brothers
Harold (Buddy), Glenn,
Charles, and Mike Hen
drix. Early in life, Kathryn
worked hard helping raise
her brothers and caring
for the home. Once she
left home, Kathryn lived
all over the east coast, in
cluding Newfoundland;
Hampton, Virginia; and
Homestead, Florida, be
fore settling back in South
Georgia. Kathryn raised
four children and was a
farm wife who worked side
by side with her husband,
Pete, in the tobacco fields
and barns. Once the kids
were grown and Kathryn
turned sixty, she started
looking forward to the day
in late summer when the
barns were empty so she
could go on vacation.
Kathryn loved to trav
el. She traveled extensively
by car, plane, and ship with
both family and friends.
She enjoyed dining in nice
restaurants, going to con
certs, and hanging out at
out-of-the-way watering
holes. She was always ready
for a road trip around the
block or around the coun
try. From Yellowstone
and Key West, Nashville
keeping her yard colorful.
She loved shopping, espe
cially for costume jewelry
or anything on sale. KK was
a fantastic cook and loved
to cook and bake for those
she loved. KK was happi
est when she was with her
family, especially her chil
dren and grandchildren.
Left to cherish her memory
are her sons, Wade Collins
of Collins and Kenny Jarri
el of Metter, and daughters
Debra (Art) Shoemaker of
Lexington, SC, and Angel
(Brandt) Herndon of Sa
vannah; her brother, Earl
(Gail) Hendrix of Daisy;

and Charlotte Akins. Also
surviving are her grand
children, Ashley (Adam)

lins, Caroline Shoemaker,
and Ava Herndon; great
grandchildren, Greyson
Kendall, Logan Kendall,
Gannon Shoemaker; and
many nieces, nephews, and
cousins.
Visitation was held
Friday, January 5, 2024, at
Kennedy Funeral Homes,
Hooks Chapel, in Met
ter, Georgia, from 12:30
to 1:30 p.m., with funeral
services following at 1:30
p.m. Burial followed at Ce
dar Creek Primitive Baptist
Church Cemetery. Kath

Dickerson, age 75, of Ly

life, and was a ,

Mr. Daniel Grady
“Danny” Kennedy, age 75,
of Mt. Vernon, died Satur
day, December 30, 2023, at
the Emanuel County Nurs
ing Home in Swainsboro,
following an extended ill
ness. Originally from Vida-
lia, he had resided near Mt.
Vernon for the last forty
years. He graduated from
Vidalia High School in
1966 and attended Middle
Georgia College and Geor
gia Southern University.
Danny then worked for
Georgia Power Pullman
Power Products and Gen
eral Physics Corporation as
a field engineer and Craft
Superintendent at both
Plant Hatch and Vogtle
Nuclear Plants. He retired
in 2011 from Georgia Cor
rectional Industries, where
he was a supervisor.
Danny was affection
ately known by his close
friends as “Kid.” Later when
he had grandchildren, they
fondly called him “Pa Kid.”
An outdoorsman, Dan
ny enjoyed being in nature,
observing wildlife, and
fishing. He had a knack for
understanding animals and
appreciating birds, espe
cially cardinals. He would
boast about the number of
redbirds that frequented
his feeder. He also loved
Golden Retrievers and had
one after another. His two
favorites were Chipper and
Cowboy. He consistently
spoiled each one and even

2023, at her home follow
ing an ongoing illness.
Mrs. Lamb was pre
ceded in death by her par

Shurley, age 67, ofVidalia,
died Monday, January 1,
2024, at Memorial Health
Meadows Hospital in Vi
dalia, after a brief illness.
He was a native of Macon,
a 1975 graduate of South
west High School in Ma
con, and he lived in Vidalia
most of his life. He began
his career with Georgia
Power in 1979 and retired
in 2021 after forty-two
years. He was a member
of the Georgia Power Am
bassadors, the First Baptist
Church of Vidalia, Pairs
and Spares Sunday School
Class and served in several
capacities in the church. He
enjoyed fishing, the Geor
gia Bulldogs, wood work
ing, and for the past twenty
years was well-known for
being Santa Claus. He is
preceded in death by his fa
ther, William Donald Shur
ley, Sr.; and brother, Rich
ard David “Ricky” Shurley,
Sr.
His family includes
his wife of forty-four years,
Edna H. Shurley of Vida
lia; one daughter, Laura
Shurley Hart and husband
Davey; two grandchildren,

Mr. Hullender was a

Comer in 2007. He was a

County High School. Ear
lier in his life, he worked
at Federal Pacific, Cole
man Sales, as a bouncer
at Kerrigans, utility line
man, and after moving to
Oglethorpe County, was a
tollgate operator for Carri
er in Athens. He attended
the Church of God, and
was a volunteer fireman in
Mt. Vernon and Tattnall
County. He is preceded
in death by his father, Joe
“Pete” Hullender; and 1
aunt, Betty Lindsay.
