In Memory of Mr* L.
In the palling away of Mr. Lind¬
sey Harper on January the 5th our
church has lost one one of of it! its most most
faithful and devoted numbers. He
was ever at his post at lldrnU and in
church reaching dbep ddwn in his
pocket at every call for dhttrch ex¬
tensions. He Was ever doing some¬
thing for his Lord and Master and
the upbuilding of bis community,
ever reaching out his hand to the
poor and needy. He was a true
husband, kind and devoted father.
As Vs look ardund and see the good
deeds he has done and the good
seed ha has sown. that will bloom
here and shine in our heavenly
Father’s kingdom we are m&de to
exclaim, Oh Father “Thy will be
done” but not mime, we feel that
Wa mast bow to the will of an ail
wise Providence who doeth all things
well. But “Ob for the touch of a
vanished baud and the sound of a
vcice that is still”. Mr. Harper
idenfMed himself with every move¬
ment in the community for the bet¬
terment of humanity, the spirit of
love conquering every obstacle iu
the way of honoring his Lord his
Christian heart was attUnCd to sym¬
pathy, his charity so broad that no
class or creed Appealed to him in
vain. Tile community goes with
bowed heads at the loss of sucli a
Uieful, faithful citizens. He had
been in feeble health for sometime
and was ttbt expected to live long
but Oh, when the end came, how
hard it wsg to say good-bye.
“In death he takes his lasting
sleep
Sweet is his repose,
In heaven far above,
Ho more to say good-bye,
Where endless comfort flows.
His bod£ia resting on Mountain

W here oft we’ve heard tbo lone¬
some ifie whippoorwill.
Among silent dead he lies,
Tali oaks around his grave may
grow,
And fragrant flowers bloom,
The tempests howl and fierce winds
blow
But they cannot molost his tomb.
Hard storms may pass
And lightning play,
Aud thunder shake the ground,
And beating rains may damp the
clay.
Upon his sacred mound.
These rugged paths no more will
dear Lindsey tread,

He leaves a wife, four sons and
three daughters to mourn his de¬
parture. A Friend.
Mr" Lee Hill Called.
Died at his home on Mountain
town Sunday evening at two o’clock
after •ehort illness, Mr. Lee Hill.
Mr. Hill made a business trip here
Friday and his friends were shock¬
ed at his early death. Dr. Tanker
slcy was called to see him Sunday
and reported him dangerouly ill
with pneumonia. Mr. Hill was one
of Gilmer’s most honorable, respect
ed and beloved citizens, having
spent his life in Gilmer county.
We realize an example of honesty
energy and sobriety has been re¬
moved from us. He was an obedi¬
ent son, devoted husband and ten¬
der father. His Christian character
indicated a band in hand walk with
his Savior. We think he could
truly say: “O Death, Where is
Thy Sting, O Grave, Where is Thy
Victory.” He leaves wife and
children, a mother, Mrs, William
Hill, two sisters, Mrs. J. T. Sharp,
of Jesup, Ga., Mrs. J. C. Searcy,
one brother, J. R. Hill, of Mnnday,
Tex., and other relatives to

Sheriff’s Race.
Sheriff Peulfliid had another race
in Fannin county after Wilburn

his destination and was told by the

the day before to a section several
miles »ir»y. The sheriff decided

struck the track" which lead to a
secret abode which had b&en sud¬
denly abandoned by two shots being
fired by the wife at the home, a
danger signal we presume. After
more tracking, the. party wanted,
was espied on a hill near the home
calling his better half to bring him
his gun. He had not seen the
sheriff and was waiting for the gun
when his wife told him to run, then
the race cemmenced in earnest,
Down the hill through the level,

Chasing the fellow through
a laurel thicket for sometime, and
wading the creek two or three times,
losing his hat, mashing his nose,
tearing his breeches, stumping his
toes, clawing his way throngh the
Laurels. After all these drawbacks,
the long legged sheriff was success¬
ful and brought Mr. Champion in.
The sheriff generally brings them
in when he goes after them, and he
don’t need blood hounds but long
wind and long legs are essential in
such perilous times.
