Some Facts Concerning The
American Bible Society,
Its Work, Etc.
(1) The American Bible Society
for the year just ending March 31,
1912, spent for Bible Distribution
in the southern states, nearly
Twenty Thousand Dollars more
than it received in contributions to
its current expenses from .those
States from all sources, during the

The latest news from China
the information that the distribu¬
tion by our society in that Empire,
for the year just ending, will ex¬
ceeding one million copies. The
large proportion of these scriptures which
have been distributed by sale,
in itself is most significant.
(3.) The society has never be¬
fore in its history had larger op¬
portunities, nor more pressing de¬
mands, not only in the work of dis
tributing the Bible, but in the
translation and publication of the
scr ip tm . e3 in many foreign tongues,

amount must be largely increased
if the society adequately meets its
responsibility in this matter.
(4.) The income of the society
from invested funds, yields about
ono-seventh of the amouut it is
now spending in its world-wide
work.
(5.) Unless there is a more gen
erous response to the needs of the
society on the part of the churchA
and individuals, its work will not
only be crippled, but of necessity,
must be curtailed. This latter
would be little short of a calamity.
(6.) Ar one of the Missionary
enterprises of the church, the so¬
ciety spends thousands of dollars
each year in distributing the Bible
free to worthy destitute families
and individuals, at home and
abroad; and-for this purpose
n ighes many thousands of
without cost to the various Mission
Boards, etc, of the several
natians.
(7.) During the past year the
distribution through the South At
kntic Agency has been nearly
hundred thousand copies.
eight foreign languages are repre
rented in this distribution. Y T our
state received its proportion of these
scriptures.
(8.) The South Atlantic
is doing special work among the
foreigners in West Virginia, Vir¬
ginia, Florida and to a less extent
in the other states of this agency.
Plans are already making for doing
this special work among the for¬
eigners of Atlanta.
