Walter‘L. Cohen, of Louisiana, nomi
nee of Prefcident Cooledge, for comptrol
ler of Customs at New Orleans, was re
jected, special Senate rejection on ac
count of “’’personal ob jections’* ! of
southern senators. The dissatisfaction,
both of the colored people at large and
earnest Republic ms, was assuaged
when President Coolidge and Chairman.
John T. Adams, of the National com
mittee, promptly demonstrated that
