Holiday Connection is a volunteer-based, county-wide clearinghouse that provides holiday assistance to help over 150 Barrow County families each year. Community members are being asked to help by donating new toys for children ages 0-18 or making financial dona tions. All proceeds go directly towards gifts. “You can also volunteer your time,’’ organizers state. “Big or small, every little bit can make a big difference to a child.” For more information, call 770-868-4258 and leave a mes sage. The mis sion of Barrow County Family Connection is to encourage a memorable and festive holiday season for families by provid ing gifts for all children in need throughout Barrow County in a more coordinated way assuring services are not duplicated and resources are used evenly throughout the community. SET CONSTRUCTION Jenni Overbey and Don Wildsmith work on the set for “It Was a Dark and Stormy Night.” Play offered this weekend Winder-Barrow Comm-unity Theater will be presenting a funny mystery play Oct. 31 and Nov. 1 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 2 at 3 p.m. at the Colleen Williams Theater in Winder. In keeping with the Halloween season, the play tells the story of the Saltmarsh Family and the strange events that happened when a storm comes up. “Come out and join the fun as we watch the antics of this hilarious family and the guests that show up at their inn,” lead ers states. The show will be presented on Oct. 24, 25, 31 and Nov. 1. Tickets are available at Pam Veader’s State Farm insurance Office at 41 S. Center Street WBHS Band to The Winder-Barrow High School band will hold a 5k run/walk and a one mile thriller fun run on Saturday, November 15 at 9 a.m. Packet pick up will begin in the parking lot of the high school by the conces sion stand at approximately 7 a.m. on race day. Entry fees are $15 per person before November 7, 2008 and $20 thereaf ter. A family rate of $50 is available to pre-registered in Winder, 770-867-1679, or by credit card at the City of Winder at 770-867-3106. Tickets are $17 for adults, and $14 for seniors (55 and up), students and teachers. A portion of every ticket price will be donated to the Piedmont Rape Crisis Center. The Rape Crisis Center covers the Barrow, Jackson and Banks County area and provides edu cation, advocacy and support to adult victims of sexual vio lence. WBCT chooses a local non-profit group to sponsor at every show in order to provide more visibility for that group. Birth Announcement Stephen and Kathy Marquess, Jefferson, announce the birth of a daughter, Ava Lauren Marquess, on Sept. 30, 2008, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville. She weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces, and was 19-3/4 inches long. She joins a sister, Leah, 4, and a brother, John, 2.
