Apalachee had kicked a field goal but two personal fouls on the Red Raiders set the Wildcats up at the 1-yard line. With a timeout to spare and 10 seconds to work with, Davis decided to send his offense back on the field and try to add another touch down. The strategy worked as The Loganville Red Devils, coached by former Parkview assistant Eric Godfree, is very disciplined and very physical, Corley said. “They are not necessarily athletic but they overwhelm you with their execution,” the Winder-Barrow coach said. “They are not going to make mistakes. They work to get Apalachee took control at halftime. Madison County would score four touchdowns in the second half using the arm of quarterback Jacob Owens. The Red Raiders were so far behind, however, all the points didn’t matter in the end. Madison County finished the game with 480 yards of total yards which often times will result in a win. The host Wildcats added second-half scores by John Ansley (two) and Chris Pharr. good field position and take advantage of it. Their quarter back is one of the best in the league. He has the speed and mobility to cause you some major concerns. He is quite a weapon and can throw the football deep.” Defensively, the Red Devils use a simple scheme overall, Corley said. Coach Mike Cavey’s team emerged from the Region 8-AAAA tournament as the No. 3 seed going into state sectionals. CROSS COUNTRY BY CHRIS BRIDGES The Apalachee High School cross country teams traveled to Conyers Saturday for the Region 8-AAAA meet. The Wildcats finished sixth at the meet while the Lady Wildcats were seventh over all. “Having been a head coach in another sport probably helped in that area,” he said.
