RED RIBBON CELEBRATION
Students at Yargo Elementary School recently celebrated Red Ribbon Week.
Celebrations related to Red Ribbon Week were held each day. On Monday, Oct.
27, being drug free comes in cans: “I can, you can, we can all rally against drugs.”
Students brought in approximately 1,200 canned goods for the local food bank. On
Tuesday, Oct. 28 focus was on the presidential election by having students pledge
(elect) to be drug free. On Wednesday, students wore red in support of those who
work hard to keep drugs out of our community. On Thursday students celebrated
“Stay in the Game” by wearing their favorite team’s spirit wear. On Friday, students
celebrated “Hooked on Books, Not Drugs” by participating in a Book Character
Dress-Up day and parade.
AUBURN ELEMENTARY RED RIBBON WEEK
During the annual celebration of Red Ribbon Week, a special “Red Ribbon Caravan”
consisting of several local law enforcement officers went from school to school
in the area delivering red ribbons for the schools to display. The ribbons are dis
played to raise awareness of drug abuse and to represent the school’s dedication
to be drug-free. Students and faculty at Auburn Elementary School enjoyed differenl
activities each day including, Monday, “Wear Red Day;” Tuesday, “Silly Sock Day” 1
Wednesday, “Mix Matched Clothes —Drugs and I Don’t Mix;” Thursday , “crazy hal
or cap” and Friday, “team uniforms or spirit wear - Team Up Against Drugs!” Red
Ribbon Week drawing winners and students that performed skits on the morning
news, accepted the red ribbon from the Caravan.

Education Center, the National
School Boards Association
and Converge Online maga
zine recently announced the
winners of the nation’s fifth
annual Digital School District
Survey.
The Barrow County School
System finished tied for fifth
among the medium sized dis
tricts (2,501-15,000 students).
The purpose of the survey
is to showcase exemplary
school boards and districts’
use of technology to govern
the district, communicate with
students, parents and the com
munity to improve district
operations.
All U.S. public school
boards/districts were invited
to participate in the survey.
Schools were placed in three
categories based on size of
enrollment. Winners reflected
those school districts with
the fullest implementation of
technology standards in the
evolution of digital education.
