Rick Hough
Rick Hough, 64, of Auburn,
died Sunday, November 2,
2008.
Born in Richmond, Va„ he
was the son of the late Earle
and Mildred
Miles Hough
and step-moth-
erPearlHough.
He was a mem
ber of Spirit of Joy Church
in Flowery Branch and was
a retired maintenance super
visor from Heraeus Amersil
in Buford. Mr. Hough was
a veteran, having served in
the United States Air Force
in Vietnam, receiving an Air
Force Commendation Medal.
He was a member of the
VFW and American Legion
in Duluth.
Survivors include his wife,
Debbie Hough, Auburn;
daughters and sons-in-law,
Theresa and Arnie Vandemark,
Capar, Mich., Nicole and
Kristian Robben, Decatur,
and Kimberly Morrison, Kila,
Mont.; grandchildren, Arnie,
Aria and Autumn Vandemark;
great-grandchildren, Tyler
Vandemark, Christopher and
Maverick Rivard; brother,
Doug Hough, Maryland;
and a sister, Marilyn Pell,
Pennsylvania.
Funeral services will be
held Friday, November 7, at 2
p.m. at Smith Memory Chapel
with the Rev. Goren Dodson
officiating. Burial will be in
Barrow Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive
friends Thursday, November
6, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the
funeral home.

Lula Blalock
Lula Mae Blalock, 88, of
Gainesville, died Monday,
November 3, 2008, at Willow
Wood Nursing Home, follow
ing an extended illness.
She was born on March
5, 1920, in Hall County, the
daughter of the late Horld and
Ethel Chumbler Morris.
Mrs. Blalock was the
mother of Mary and Homer
Howington of Braselton.
Funeral services will be
held Thursday, November 6,
at 2 p.m., at Temple Baptist
Church with Dr. James
Ransom and the Rev. Marvin
Harris officiating. Burial
will be in Memorial Park
Cemetery. The family will
receive friends Wednesday
from 5 to 9 p.m. at the funeral
home.

Jewell Whisriant
Jewell lone Burrell
Whisnant, 90, of Danielsville,
died Tuesday, October 28,
2008, in St. Mary’s Hospital
in Athens.
Born on February 23, 1918,
in Habersham County, she
was the daughter of the late
Altus and Ola Black Burrell.
Mrs. Whisnant was the
mother of Deborah Everette
of Braselton.
Funeral services were held
Friday, October 31, in the
chapel of Whitlock Mortuary
with the Revs. Robert Thomas
and Joe Wood officiating.

Annie Hue
Moore
Annie Hue Moore, 98, of
Statham, died Friday, October
31, 2008.
She was born in Walton
County, the daughter of the
late John Foster and Elizabeth
V. Chandler McElhannon.
She was a member of the
Statham Methodist Church
and taught school in 1929 and
1930 at Argonne School, after
which time she went to work
at Carwood Manufacturing
Company, Jackson & Barrow
Manufacturing Company,
working more than 40 years
in the plants before retiring as
a supervisor. She later went
to work at Belk’s Department
Store, retiring for good at the
age of 82. Mrs. Moore was
preceded in death by her hus
band, John Kurtz Moore; a
daughter, Gloria Stapleton;
and grandson, Jackie
Stapleton.
Survivors include a daugh
ter and son-in-law, Susan
and Howard Martin, Winder;
grandchildren, Jennifer and
Phil Thornton, Kay Stapleton,
John and Clarissa Stapleton,
Bruce Stapleton, Amy Martin
Harrell and Tim Harrell;
great-grandchildren, Quincy
Thornton, Asa Thornton,
Anna Stapleton, Jeremy Kiley
and Jackson Harrell.
Funeral services were held
Sunday, November 2, at Smith
Memory Chapel with the Rev.
Brent Gilstrap officiating.
Burial was in the Bethlehem
United Methodist Church
Cemetery.

Orin McCullers
Orin Willard McCullers, 94,
of Bethlehem, died Saturday,
November 1, 2008.
Born in Walton County, he
was the son of the late Olin and
Leola Williams McCullers.
He was a World War II Army
Veteran and
was retired
from AT & T.
Mr. McCullers
was preceded
in death by a granddaughter,
Kim Cronic.
Survivors include his
wife, Glenda L. McCullers,
Bethlehem; daughters, Gail
Free, Statham; and Sandra
Thompson, Maysville; and
grandchildren Major Chuck
Thompson and Tra Hammock;
and four-great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, November 5, at
Smith Memory Chapel with
the Rev. Mike Blount offici
ating. Burial was in Barrow
Memorial Gardens. Smith

Burtchaell
Gerald Daly Burtchaell Sr.,
66, of Maysville, died early
Friday morning at Lanier Park
Hospital in Gainesville.
Bom in Fulton County, he
was the son of the late William
Daly and Willena Whatley
Burtchaell.
Mr. Burtchaell was the
father of Leah Jo Turk of
Braselton. Ivie Funeral Home,
Commerce, was in charge of
arrangements.

Ruby Waters
Ruby Dean Duck Waters,
86, of Braselton, died Sunday,
November 2, 2008.
Bom in Jackson County, she
was the daughter of the late
L.G. and Mae Cmce Duck. She
was a poultry farmer and also
worked as an assistant for the
Gwinnett Animal Veterinary
Clinic. She was a member
of Zion Baptist Church in
Braselton. Mrs. Waters was
preceded in death by a son,
Jimmy Waters; brothers,
Howard Duck, Branson Duck
and Brannon Duck; son-in-
law, Terry Wiley; and grand
son-in-law, Jonathan Pierce.
Survivors include a daugh
ter, Susan Wiley, Braselton;
daughter-in-law, Carol Waters,
Braselton; grandchildren,
Lisa Brown, Hoschton, Shane
Waters, Stacy Henderson,
and Brian Wiley, all of
Braselton, and Mariah Pierce,
Athens; great-grandchildren,
Hannah and Hunter Brown,
Hoschton, Michael Waters,
Riley Waters, Aiden Waters,
Carly Henderson, Catherine
Henderson, Ben Wiley and
Brett Wiley, all of Braselton;
a sister, Lurline Tanner,
Braselton; and many loving
nieces, nephews and other
extended family.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday, November 4, in the
chapel of Little and Davenport
Funeral Home with the Revs.

officiating. Burial was in Zion
Baptist Church Cemetery in
Braselton.

Ruth Garrett
Ruth J. Garrett, 97, of
Statham, died Tuesday,
November 4, 2008.
Born in Oconee County, she
was the daughter of the late
James C. and Elbe H. Jackson.
She was a homemaker and a
member of Bethabara Baptist
Church. Mrs. Garrett was pre
ceded in death by her husband,
Ernest Cecil Garrett; brothers,
Louie Jackson, Mell Jackson;
and a sister, Lillian Shedd.
Survivors include sons
and daughters-in-law, James
Garrett, Eddie and Barbara
Garrett, Lavohn and Sue
Garrett, all of Statham, Hinton
“Bud” Garrett, Winder; six
grandchildren; seven great
grandchildren; and a brother,
Hull Jackson, Snellville.
Funeral services will be held
Thursday, November 6,
at 2 p.m., at Bethabara
Baptist Church with the
Rev. Bob Bray and Bro. Asa
Thomas officiating. Burial
will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends
Wednesday, November 5, from
5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dr. Merlin E.
Naylor
Dr. Merlin E. Naylor, 93, of
Bogart, died Tuesday, October
28, 2008.
Born in Centropolis, Kan.,
he was the son of the late Noble
E. and Georgia
F. Anglemeyer
Naylor. He
was preceded
in death by
his wife, Elena DeSimone
Naylor and sister Lois Pierce.
Dr. Naylor was a gradu
ate from Wellsville, Kansas
High School, The University
of Kansas with a BA and
Georgetown University with
a DDS. He served in the Navy
for 30 plus years, serving
in World War II, Korea and
Vietnam. He retired from the
Navy as a Captain serving as
a dentist and was a member of
St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include son and
daughter-in-law, Noble and
Miralene, Bogart; daughter
and son-in-law, Patricia and
Bill Healan, Winder; grand
children, William D. Healan
III; Cynthia Elena Healan
Robarge; Michael Naylor
Healan; Erin Marie Healan;
Elena Sophia Naylor; Sarah
Mariel Naylor; great-grand
children, Lillian Cynthia
Healan; Sydney Maria Healan
and Millicent Ellen Robarge;
sister Dee Ellen Petty,
Leawood, Kan. and many
nieces and nephews.

Sybil N. Gunter, 84, of
Bethlehem, died Saturday,
November 1, 2008.
Bom in Barrow County, she
was the daughter of the late
Homer and
Rilla Stancil
Pierce. She
was a home

Church. Mrs. Gunter was pre
ceded in death by her husband,
William Royce Gunter.
Survivors include sons,
Douglas Gunter, Hoschton;
Ricky Gunter, Bethlehem;
daughters, Brenda Bramlett,
Auburn; Bobbie Wood,
Bethlehem; Gwen Daniel,
Winder; Nita Loggins,
Winder and Cynthia Roper,
Vero Beach, Fla.; twenty one
grandchildren; thirty seven
great grandchildren; and six
great-great grandchildren;
and a brother, James Pierce,
Bethlehem.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday, November 4, at Smith

Rev. Jason Webster and Josh
Kinney officiating. Burial was
in Barrow Memorial Gardens.

Lee Hammond
Lee Roy Hammond, 77,
of Winder, died Wednesday,
October 29, 2008.
Born in Jackson County, he
was the son of the late Johnny
and Ruth Gaddis Hammond.
He was retired from the
University of Georgia, where
he worked as an
electrician.
He was
in the Navy
and served in
Korea and was a member of
Morningside Baptist Church.
Mr. Hammond was preceded
in death by a son, Ricky Lee
Hammond.
Survivors include his wife,
Bobbie Allen Hammond,
Winder; daughter, Barbara
Taylor, Atlanta; grandchil
dren Ann Marie, James and
Jonathan Taylor; brothers,
J.R. Hammond and Franklin
Hammond, both of Winder and
sister, Joyce Self, Winder.

Friday, October 31, at Smith

Rev. Ronald Hewatt offici
ating. Burial was in Barrow
