PAGE 12 A BARROW JOURNAL WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 2008 Divers look for Auburn gun BY SUSAN NORMAN A dive team from the Hall County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday morning searched a pond behind the Auburn apart ment complex where a man and a woman were shot Nov. 15 while sleeping. The team is searching for the weapon used in the crime, said Auburn Police Chief Frederick Brown. “We made the determination a couple days ago to search the pond based on the fact that we searched everywhere else and couldn't find the weapon, and our investigator found what appeared to be fresh footprints by the edge of the pond the morning of the crime,” he said. “We’re going under the assumption that that would be a good place to throw the weapon.” A full dive team with eight or more divers arrived at the site off Park Mill Road at 9 a.m. Because of the murkiness of the water, the divers used a search pattern method and SEARCHING A dive team from Hall County looks for the gun used in an Auburn shoot ing last week. feeling the bottom of the pond by hand, Brown said. Several Auburn law enforce ment personnel are working on the mystery of who and why someone in the early mornings hours of Nov. 15 shot 35-year-old Kathy Lynn McCallister and 54-year-old Michael John Borg while they were asleep in an apartment in the Parks Mill Apartments. The victims have been released from Gwinnett Medical Center after undergo ing surgery. Brown said the victims have moved out of the apartment and are “kinda guarded right now.” With no known motive for the shooting, Auburn police are looking at three possible theories: That the shooting was gang related, drug related or that “somebody just picked the wrong house,” Brown said. He said there has been some gang activity in the area of the apartment complex. “This summer, we had an assault with some gang members in that general area.” However, police know of no gang or drug ties to the victims, he said.
