Independence Bank opens in Braselton The staff, board of direc tors and special guests of Independence Bank of Georgia recently cut the rib bon to mark the bank’s offi cial opening at 6323 Grand Hickory Drive, Braselton. The bank is in the Mulberry Park business center, located off Ga. Hwy. 211. And the bank issued a strong statement supporting its mission — “committed to community; dedicated to ser vice” by introducing its senior staff representing more than one hundred years of banking experience and donating to the ‘Bucks for Books’ campaign at the Braselton Library. The bank received its charter notification from the Georgia Department of Banking and Finance on Oct. 15. The initial capitalization is $18.9 million, exceeding ana lysts’ estimates for a start-up bank during the challenging conditions of the economy. Two hundred twenty-two shareholders helped the bank exceed its capitalization pro jection. Bank president Terry Evans introduced the board of direc tors. “We have a strong team, and we’ll work hard to serve the banking needs of this commu nity and region,” he said. The bank offers checking accounts, savings accounts, personal or consumer loans and specialized personal bank ing services. Braselton Mayor Pat Graham cut the ribbon and thanked the vision of the board and staff for opening its first office in Braselton. Local students selected to honor society Gainesville State College’s Rho Mu Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa recently inducted 87 new members into the chapter, including several from Barrow County. The new members include: Annette Irizarry, Auburn; Cristian Caceres, Linda Hornick, Jolene Kanieski and Nicole Sensei, all of Braselton; and Daniel Helmick and Analicia Rhodes, Winder. Phi Theta Kappa is an hon ors society recognizing excel lence at two-year colleges. According to a recent news release from Community Bank & Trust, the firm continues to be strong during the current economic downturn. “Community Bank & Trust is 108 years old. It continues to be well capitalized, has substantial reserves for any loan losses that may occur,” said the release. The failed Community Bank in Loganville had its deposit accounts transferred to Bank of Essex out of Virginia. It is reportedly the 20th bank in the nation taken over this year by the FDIC and the third in Georgia. The failed bank had a low single-star rating by Bankrate. com which tracks banking per formance.
