WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 3, 2008 BARROW JOURNAL PAGE 5B School News AHS STUDENTS ATTEND FBLA CONFERENCE The Apalachee High School Future Business Leaders of America chapter recently attended the Fall Leadership Conference at the Classic Center in Athens. Seventeen members of Apalachee’s FBLA chapter attended the conference and all had an opportunity to participate in exciting leadership sessions, play Monopoly to raise money for March of Dimes and network with members from FBLA chapters across the state. All FBLA officers completed an Officer Track to teach them about their duties and responsibilities in running the organization. At the general session, students heard from motivational speaker, Byron Garrett and then got to watch a Business Fashion Extravaganza showcasing proper business attire. FLBA students are now preparing for upcoming Region competitions. STUDENTS OF THE MONTH Russell Middle School recently hosted its monthly Student of the Month luncheon. Students who are given this honor enjoy a lunch with principal Russ Claxton. The lunch is provided by Arby’s, which is a Partner in Education with Russell Middle School. Students of the Month for November are Emily Whiddon, Kody Phomgonvsa, Matthew Skidmore, Zhane Rozier, Alex Childers, Jesus Teran, Sarah Elizabeth Jordan, Kaleb Catching, Brandon Watson, Bai Xiong, Heather Davis and Dylan Marks. Online test tutorials available from libraries RMS announces first nine weeks honor roll Residents of all three coun ties of the Piedmont Regional Library System, Banks, Barrow and Jackson, now have access to Learning Express Library free of charge. This internet-based test prepara tion resource can be accessed through any of the 11 librar ies, or from home with a library card. Learning Express Library is an online resource that allows users to take practice versions of standardized tests. Among the many tests avail able are GED, SAT, GRE, ACT, ASVAB, and Advanced Placement (AP) exams. Other exams available include the Postal Exam, Nursing, Police, Corrections Officer, Firefighter and Civil Service. For younger students. Learning Express Library includes elementary, middle and high school tests in math, reading and writing. These tests are specifically geared toward improving skills in all these areas. Also included are resume and interviewing skills tests, citizenship, and Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). Many e-books are available for downloading to help users prepare for these tests. Tests are scored immedi ately, giving the user feed back on the areas that need improvement. This resource is helpful for those who like to use a computer, but might be more reluctant to study using a book, officials said. A free account takes sec onds to set up.
