Auburn police responding to
a noise complaint at a vacant
house in Auburn’s Elk Grove
subdivision early Sunday inter
rupted a party with underage
drinkers.
Seven of the 17 people at the
party were arrested for under
age possession of alcohol.
Police arrived at the house on
Elk Grove Drive shortly after
1 a.m., noticed some quick
movement in the garage and
in the house. Then the lights
went out.
“Their first reaction was
‘let’s turn off the lights and
maybe they’ll go away,’ which
was kind of funny,’’ said Sgt.
Mike Fugett.
Inside the darkened house,
police found no furniture, but
plenty of teens. Most appar
ently attend Apalachee High
School.
“We asked for a show of
hands and when we asked who
attended Apalachee, probably
two-thirds raised their hands,’’
Fugett said.
Almost half had been drink
ing.
“There was no one fall
ing-down drunk; no one had
reached that point, but it was
going that way. It was headed
ugly,’’ Fugett said.
Arrested were; Stanley
Bulkoski, 18, of Auburn;
Sara Camp, 17, of Auburn;
Elizabeth Daniel, 19, of
Winder; Quindaris Deetion, 18,
of Auburn; Timothy Moore, 18,
of Auburn; Brian Pozowicz, 18,
of Winder; and Robert Tunnell,
20, of Bethlehem.
All were issued misdemean
or citations and released either
to their parents or to other driv
ers who were determined to
be sober. Anyone convicted of
underage drinking in Auburn
faces a fine, community ser
vice hours, attendance at court-
ordered classes, and manda
tory essay writing, said Clerk
of Court Meg Grant.
“Normally, they get them
all,” she said Monday.
Three of the teens at the
party were found to be under
the age of 17. They had not
been drinking, but were taken
to the police department to
wait for their parents.
“When you have a juvenile
out at that time of the evening,
and they’re under 17, you take
them into custody until you
can get them safe and back
under the control of a parent or
guardian,” Fugett said.
Parents summoned to the
scene or to the police station
appeared disappointed in their
kids’ behavior and aggravated
about receiving the middle-
of-the-night call from police.
But it could have been worse,
Fugett said.
“There were several cars,
eight or nine. That’s nine
chances of a fatality, that the
booze would have taken over,
and we all know what the out
come of that can be.”

Auburn police also arrested
or cited the following:

Auburn police investigating shoplifting at Ingles
According to a police report about
the incident, employees of the Ingles
Supermarket at 1520 Atlanta Hwy. saw
a man and a woman come into the store
at 9:45. The woman took a grocery cart
and “looked into the video surveillance
camera,” the report states. The pair spent
about 20 minutes loading the cart with
a carton of Icehouse beer, a gallon of
Wesson cooking oil, a gallon of Gain
laundry detergent, and a 24-roll package
of Cottonelle toilet paper. The couple
then pushed their cart toward the exit,
bypassing all of the registers.
The manager followed the alleged
shoplifters outside where the woman
threw all of the items into a green,
1995 Buick Regal Custom automobile.
Stepping between the woman and the
manager, the man warned the manager to
back up. Both suspects then got into the
vehicle and drove off with an estimated
$112 in stolen merchandise.
The case is under investigation by
the police department’s Criminal
Investigation Division.
In other incidents Auburn police offi
cers responded to in the past week were:
•an allegation of rape at a residence on
Parks Mill Road.
•a criminal trespass complaint at a
home on Cobblestone Road.
