According to arrest reports and jail records, the Georgia State Patrol arrested seven drunk drivers, the Barrow County Sheriffs Office nabbed six, the Winder Police Department arrested five and police officers in Auburn and Statham arrested one each. “We want to do what it takes to keep the roads safe and we will continue what ever enforcement is necessary to make sure people exercise good judgment when they are operating a motor vehicle, especially during the holi days,” said Barrow County Sheriffs Major Murray Kogod Tuesday. Drivers charged with DUI are automatically brought to the Barrow County Detention Center, where they typically spend at least one night incar cerated before posting bond. “If they’re to the point where they may be a danger to themselves or others, they’re put in a holding cell to keep them protected,” Kogod said. “Otherwise, they’ll be put in the general population until they make bond. Their cell will probably have two people in it. But they’ll be in a hous ing unit with up to 35.” Arrested since Nov. 24 were Statham police officers arrested two additional people in unrelated incidents Nov. 24-30.
