‘Pop’ Greene
Kenneth “Pop” Greene,
75, of Winder, died Monday,
December 8, 2008.
Born in Walker County,
Ala., he was the son of the
late Nelson and Davisie Mae
Keaton Greene. He was retired
from Cofer-Adams Building
Supply.
Survivors include his wife,
Melda Greene, Winder; a
sons and daughter-in-law,
Dewayne Greene, Nicholson,
and David “Uncle Beez” and
Eve Greene, Winder; daugh
ters and sons-in-law, Deborah
Vaughan, Regina and Richard
Tiller, all of Winder, Phyllis
and Mitch Anglin, Tucker;
13 grandchildren; 14 great
grandchildren; and a sister and
brother-in-law, Carolyn and
Morris Lawson, Commerce.
Funeral services were held
Thursday, December 11, at
Smith Memory Chapel with
the Rev. Lloyd Ferguson offi
ciating. Burial was in Barrow
Memorial Gardens.

Clara Weaver
Clara Nell Weaver, 85,
of Winder, died Saturday,
December 6, 2008.
Born in Barrow County,
she was the daughter of the
late Lester and Susie Vandiver
Banks. She was a member of
Winder First Christian Church
and the Eastern Star. Mrs.
Weaver was preceded in death
by her husband, Ken Weaver.
Survivors include a son
and daughter-in-law, Ralph
Edward and Mary Catherine
O'Kelley, Snellville; grand
children, Will O'Kelley and
Catherine Fore; brother,
Ernest Banks, Huntsville;
and a sister, Marie Hardigree,
Watkinsville.
Memorial services were
held Sunday, December 14,
at the Winder First Christian
Church. The body was cre
mated.

Marie Ann Smith, 80, of
Gainesville, died Tuesday,
December 9, 2008, at New
Horizon's West Nursing Home
on Dawsonville Highway, fol
lowing an extended illness.
Bom in Hall County, she
was the daughter of the
late Hershel and Lila Mae
Culpepper Smith.
Miss Smith was the aunt of
Judy Standridge of Allyson
Antwine of Hoschton.
Funeral services were held
Thursday, December 11, in
the chapel of Memorial Park
Funeral Home with the Revs.

Rick Miller
Rick Miler, 53, of Monroe,
died Friday, December 5,
2008.
Born in Monroe, he was the
son of the late Luther and
Lillie Mae Harrison Miller. He
was an ordained minister for
the Assembly of God Church
and was employed by Akins
Ford. He was a Son of the
Confederacy.
Survivors include his wife,
Yvonne Miller, Monroe; sister
and brother-in-law, Hedy and
Charles Petty, Stone Mountain;
nieces, Selena Estes, Deborah
Petty, and Carla Thrasher.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, December 6, at
Smith Memory Chapel with
Mr. Marshall Britt officiating.
The body was cremated
following the services.

Ruby Lee Tanksley
Thrasher, 93, of Commerce,
died Thursday, December 11,
2008, at BJC Nursing Home.
Bom in Athens, she was the
daughter of the late Doc and
Maudie Shannon Tanksley.
Mrs. Thrasher was the sis
ter of Nellie Hammond of
Statham.

Theo Duncan
Theo Duncan, 73, of Auburn,
died Wednesday, December
10, 2008, at Emory University
Hospital.
A native of Walton County,
he had resided in Barrow
County since 1951. He was a
member of Ebenezer Baptist
Church and was a retiree of the
city of Lawrenceville’s Street
Department. Mr. Duncan was
the son of the late Brantley
and Ida Mae Hall Duncan.
Survivors include his
wife, Julia Rooks Duncan,
Auburn; daughter and son-
in-law, Brenda and Joey
Jones, Shellman Bluff; sons
and daughters-in-law, Keith
and Julie Duncan, Conyers,

Victoria Mekosh
Victoria Mekosh, 81, of
Hoschton, died Tuesday,
December 9, 2008.
Born on October 12, 1927,
in Columbia County, Pa., she
was the daughter of the late
Michael and Joanna Matlock
Locke. She was retired from
Merck Pharmaceuticals, where
she was a lab technician. Mrs.
Mekosh was preceded in death
by a son, Gregory Mekosh.
Survivors include her
husband of 61 years, Peter
Mekosh, Hoschton; daughters,
Gloria Lachman, Sellersville,
Pa., Victoria Rosenbaum,
Nicholson, Patricia Mekosh,
Dublin, Pa., Joanna Mekosh,
Hoschton, Donna Allan,
Middleburg, Fla.; son, Peter
Mekosh Jr., Jackson, N.J.;
eleven grandchildren; and nine
great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass was held
Wednesday, December 17,
at 11 a.m., at the Ukranian
Catholic Church in Warrington,
Pa.,
Burial was in the St.
John Neumann Cemetery in
Chalfont, Pa.

William Shaw
William Thomas Shaw, age
18, of Winder, died December
13, 2008. A lifelong resident
of Barrow County, he was the
son of Maria Holbrook and the
late Kenneth Holbrook. He was
preceded in death by his grand
father, Donald Cox.
Survivors include his wife,

Terry Anthony, 57, of
Bethlehem, died Saturday,
December 13, 2008.
A native of Jackson County, he
was the son of Geneva Manders
Anthony of Bethlehem and the
late Lester Anthony. He had
attended Arcade Community
Church and was a brick mason.
Survivors in addition to his
mother, include a sister, Jane
George, Bethlehem; broth
ers, Gary Anthony and Mike
Anthony, both of Bethlehem.

Laura Rooks
Laura Rooks, 71, of Winder,
died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008.
Born in Barrow County, she
was the daughter of the late Othal
C. and Floy Holliday Casper.
She was Baptist and attended
Eastside and Fellowship Baptist
Church. She was a volunteer for
the Big A Club. Mrs. Rooks was
preceded in death by her hus
band, James “Jimmy” Rooks;
and siblings, James Casper,
Maryanne Griffeth and Jean
Brown.
Survivors include sons and
daughter-in-law, Michael
Rooks, Winder, Mark and
Sharon Rooks, Isle of Palms,
S.C.; daughter and son-in-law,
Jimmieann and Jimmy Turner,
Statham; and grandchildren,
David Turner, Matthew and
Benjamin Rooks.

Emma Everett, 76, of Winder,
died December 15, 2008. A
Gwinnett County native, she
was the daughter of the late
Clyde and Margaret Grindle
Mangum. She was preceded
in death by her husband. Rev.
Roy Everett, and a sister, Jessie
D. Hayes. Mrs. Everett was
Baptist and was a retiree of
Harrison Poultry.

Robert Hinton
Robert Hinton, 84, died
Wednesday, December 10,
2008.
Born in Barrow County on
May 8, 1924, he was the son
of the late Theodus and Mary
Hinton. He was preceded in
death by his wife of 56 years,
Lucille Hinton; a son, Billy
Hinton; brother, Buck Hinton;
and a sister, Mabel Reed. He
was a kind and loving father,
grandfather and great-grandfa
ther who will be dearly missed
by ah, loved ones stated.
Survivors include daughters
and sons-in-law, Joyce and
Quinton Rhodes and Vickie
and David Hinton, all of
Winder; sons and daughters-
in-law, Gregory and Nancy
