Thieves stole everything
that J. Shin Kim had - twice

80-year-old woman happy
last week after recovering two
antique Korean room screens
from a Barrow County chick
en house.
The 100-year-old screens,
reportedly painted by a famous
Korean artist, are “priceless
family heirlooms,” said Lt.
Danny Kerns, commander of
Auburn Police Department’s
patrol division.
They had been stolen in
2004 from a home on Browns
Bridge Road in Auburn and

A Braselton officer said he
chased a vehicle that ignored
the commands of two officers
to stop at an accident site.
Police said officers were
directing traffic at the intersec
tion of Ga. Hwy. 211 and Ga.
Hwy. 124 in Braselton when
they noticed a vehicle speeding
toward the area. The vehicle
later stopped at the intersection
and an officer walked to the
vehicle to ask the driver about
speeding.
As the officer was walking to
the vehicle, it pulled off from
the road and started to travel on
Hwy. 124. Two officers yelled
at the driver to stop. One of the
officers said he tapped on the
vehicle as it rolled past him.
A Braselton officer got into
his patrol vehicle and followed
the vehicle on Hwy. 124, where
it was passing other vehicles in
a no-passing zone, according to
an incident report.
When the driver couldn’t
pass another vehicle, he gave
up on eluding police, the officer
reported.
The officer pulled the driver
had been stashed, uncovered,
for at least two years in the
chicken house, he said.
A woman was convicted
of the theft in 2005, but the
screens were not located until
last week.
The recovery was made
through the detective work of
Cpl. Katria Johnson and of a
drug investigator whom Kerns
declined to identify.
In an interview following
last week’s recovery of the
items, the victim’s daughter-
in-law said the thieves took
the artistic room dividers
while her mother-in-law was
out of the country.
2:30 a.m. that Sunday and then
sped off in a stolen Chevrolet
Impala, which crashed on

the vehicle. Police found his

Two other passengers in the
vehicle were told to get on the
ground while police searched
the vehicle. An open container
of alcohol was found in the
front passenger side of the
vehicle, police said.
One of the passengers said
he threw another container
of alcohol out of the window
while they were fleeing police.
The passenger later yelled
obscenities to officers while his
vehicle was being loaded onto a
wrecker truck.
Jessica Kim said thieves at
the same time also stripped
her nearby home, which was
vacant, of appliances and
fixtures. Sometime after her
mother-in-law purchased new
furnishings to partially replace
what had been stolen in 2004,
thieves came back a second

even her medicine.
Jessica Kim said her moth-
