Students watch plays in Athens, Atlanta
F ourth grade students at Bethlehem
Christian Academy recently visited
two live productions in a week.
The students watched a production of “James
and the Giant Peach” at the Classic Center,
Athens, on Dec. 4.
The cast gave a performance that held the
students' attention.
The play also included a “rapping shark,”
which was what student Jessica Helton said
she enjoyed the most of the production. Student
Justus Innecken said he was thrilled to attend
the performance, along with his mom, because
it was his first play.
Joyce Thomas and Cassie Hill's fourth grade
classes have been studying author Roald Dahl.
The teachers have read aloud many of Dahl’s
books to the classes, as well as the students
reading some independently.
In addition to “James and the Giant Peach,”
Hill's students selected “Matilda” as one of
their favorite Dahl books.
Thomas’ class preferred “George's Marvelous
Medicine” as well as “James and the Giant
Peach.”
The author study was completed by attend
ing the play “James and the Giant Peach” in
Athens.
The students then attended a live production
of “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” at the
Fox Theater in Atlanta.
As the students emerged into The Fox the
atre, Sullie Mabry said that the stars located
on the ceiling were her favorite part of the
adventure.
“The students were delighted to view this
inspiring play that gave a fresh outlook of the
Christmas story,” school leaders said.
Dorian Burnsed said that the “Angel of the
Lord” proclaiming “Shazam” at the end of the
play amused her most.
The students concluded their day by going to
the Varsity for lunch. Everyone collected a hat
as a souvenir of the field trip.
