Delores Queen
Delores Young Queen, 83,
died Saturday, December 20,
2008.
Born in Jefferson on July 16,
1925, she was the daughter of
the late Henry and Mae Head
Young. She
lived most
of her life
in Monroe
and Winder,
where she
retired from
Walton
Mills,
and was a
member
of Central Fellowship Baptist
Church in Macon. She was
loved and adored as "Nanny” by
her grandchildren, Brant Queen
(Jennifer), Atlanta, Josh Queen
(Kelly), Anna Beth Sizemore
(Joel), Madie Martin (Tim),
Jessie Tanner (Teddy), Rachel
Queen, Caleb Queen and Ruthie
Queen, all of Macon, loved ones
stated.
Mrs. Queen was preceded in
death by her husband, Ralph
Queen; sons, Terry Queen and
Ronnie Queen; and a sister,
Helen Richardson.
Survivors include a son, the
Rev. Rodney Queen (Celeste),
Macon; daughter-in-law, Linda
Queen, Surfside Beach, S.C.;
brother, George Young (Nell),
Winder; and great-grandchil
dren, Ethan and Avery Queen;
and several nieces and neph
ews.
Funeral services were held
Monday, December 22, at
Central Fellowship Baptist
Church with the Revs. Josh
Queen and Jerry Walls officiat
ing. Burial was at Rest Haven
Cemetery in Monroe.

Lamar Davis
Lamar Davis, 77, of Statham,
died Sunday, December 21,
2008.
He was the son of the late
Allen and Eula Jackson Davis
and was preced
ed in death by
sons, Jeff Davis
and Danny
Davis; brothers, Billy Davis
and Larry Davis; and a sister,
Grace Stephens. Mr. Davis was
a veteran, having served in the
United States Navy during the
Korean War.
Survivors include children,
Judy Cook, Statham, James
Davis, Covington, Joe Davis,
Delaware, and John Davis,
Louisiana; sister, Libby Luke,
Bogart; brother, Donald Davis,
Statham; 11 grandchildren; and
12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, December 24, at
Oconee Chapel. Burial was in
Oconee Memorial Park.

charge of arrangements.

Norris Mack
Norris Mack, 59, of Statham,
died Thursday, December 25,
2008.
Born in Barrow County, he
was the son of Lenora Brown
Mack of Statham and the late
Randolph Mack. He was a
farmer and a retired machine
technician. He was a member
of the Greater Barbers Creek
Missionary Baptist Church,
where he served faithfully as a
deacon.
Survivors in addition to his
mother, include his loving wife,
Verice “Vera” Collins Mack,
Statham; a daughter and son-
in-law, Nedra and Harrison
Gresham, Grovetown; sons
and daughters-in-law, Rico
and Nathalie Mack, Athens,
Carlo and Kim Mack, Buford,
Fernando and Mary Mack,
Winder; sisters, Efferie Bradley,
Ohio, Bertha Mae Batton,
Decatur, Gertie Sims, Winder,
Jeanette Green, Carolyn
Thomas and Juanita Mack, all
of Statham, Patricia Coleman,
South Carolina; brothers,
Lamar Mack, Uranius Mack,
James Mack, all of Statham,
Guestus Mack, Atlanta, Walter
Mack, Winder; adopted in love
as children, Lambert J. Tory and
Lionel Tory, both of Jefferson;
and 10 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Tuesday, December 30, at The
Greater B arber Creek Mi s sionary
Baptist Church with the Rev.
Leonard Summerour officiating.
Burial was in Barrow Memorial
Gardens in Winder.

Nettie Bradford
Nettie Lee Bradford, 80, of
Winder, died Friday, December
26, 2008.
Born in Barrow County, she
was the daughter of the late
Luther A. and Lillie Ann Anglin
Wall. She was a member of
Eastside Baptist Church and
was retired from Winder Health
Care (formerly Russell Nursing
Home), where she went to work
in 1972.
Survivors include a step
son, Dale Bradford, Buford;
step-granddaughter, Lauren
Bradford; special friends, Ruby
Campbell and Linda Gilmer.
Funeral services were held
Monday, December 29, at
Smith Memory Chapel with the
Rev. Darrell Gilmer officiat
ing. Burial was in the Pentecost
United Methodist Church.

Myrtie Lee Phillips Brock,
87, of Bowman, died Thursday,
December 25, 2008, at Brown
Memorial Convalescent Center
in Royston.
Born in Banks County on
October 19, 1921, she was the
daughter of the late Talmadge
Joe and Tempie Mae Hembree
Phillips.

Blanche Elder
Blanche Elder, 94, of Auburn,
died Sunday, December 28,
2008. A native of Ware County,
she was the daughter of the
late John C. and Julia Moxley
Calhoun. She was preceded in
death by her husband, Elmer
Elder. Mrs. Elder was a mem
ber of the First Baptist Church
of Carl and was a retiree of
the Georgia Department of
Transportation.
Survivors include son, Thomas
F. (Angela) Elder; daughter,
Charlotte (Sid) Bonnemer, all
of Auburn; Three grandchildren
and three great-grandchildren.

Wednesday, December 31,
from the Chapel of Carter
Funeral Home with Pastor Ray
H. Newman, Sr. and Mr. Bill
Banks officiating. Burial was
in the Galilee Christian Church

Born in Banks County, she

Newt and Lucille Jacks Veal.

Born in York, Pa., she was
the daughter of Linda and
Richard Haley of Winder. She
was employed by Helping Hand
Lawn Service as a supervisor.

parents, include her husband,
Nicholas Overbey, Winder; a
daughter, Sharon Lynn Smith;
step-son, Nicholas Overbey
Jr.; and brother, Christopher A.

Billy Nix, 73, of Pendergrass,
died Friday, December 26,
2008.
A native of West Virginia,
he was the son of the late Ola
Lance and Bill Nix. He was
retired from the poultry industry
and was a member of Pond Fork
Baptist Church
Mr. Nix was the brother of
Shirley McDaniel of Winder.

Sunday, December 28, in the
Pond Fork Baptist Church with
the Revs. Johnny Knight and
M.A. Poole officiating.

Brittane Nichole Brown, 14,
of Hoschton, died Saturday,
December 27, 2008.
She was the daughter of
Shannon Poole Brown and
Terrance Shanard Brown.
She attended Jackson County
Comprehensive High School,
where she participated in bas
ketball. She loved life, spend
ing time with friends, dancing,
listening to music, and track,
loved ones stated.

Henry Grady Pressley, 80,
of Gainesville, died Thursday,
December 25, 2008, at his resi
dence.
Bom in Jackson County, he
had lived in Hall County for
most of his life and was the
son of the late Leon and Emma
Holder Pressley.
Mr. Pressley was the brother
of Peggy and Wayne Allen of
Hoschton.

Saturday, December 27, in the
Little & Davenport Funeral
Home Chapel with the Revs.

Obituary Policies
Obituaries will be published
for free in the Barrow Journal
if the person is, or has been in
the past, a resident of Barrow
County, works in Barrow
County now or did in the past,
or is a public official whose
district includes all or part of
Barrow County.
A photo of the deceased will
also be published for free if
the obituary meets the above
requirements.
If the deceased does not meet
the above requirements, but
has a close relative in Barrow
County, a shorter death notice
will be published for free.
Free obituaries may include
full name, age, location of
death, cause of death, where
born, parents names, occupa
tion, memberships in churches,
civic clubs, etc., military ser
vice, names of survivors but
not the names of grandchildren,
what funeral home is handling
arrangements, date, time and
location of receiving, date and
time of funeral, location of buri
al, officiating party and pall
bearers.
For all other obituaries that
do not meet the above require
ments, or for additional infor
mation beyond what’s included,
a paid obituary may be pub
lished for 15 cents per word
plus $5 for any photograph.
Obituaries are generally sub
mitted through a funeral home
or other official source and
edited by the newspaper. Where
families disagree on the naming
of stepchildren or other matters,
what is submitted by the funeral
home will be what is published.
If other family members or
friends wish to publish a paid
obituary with additional info-
mation, they may do so by sub
mitting the information directly
to the newspaper and paying the
15 cents per word fee.
