Sanders pleads not guilty to kidnapping in Louisiana
AUBURN INCIDENT REPORTS
APD calls woman about texts
On Friday, Nov. 19, Thomas
Steven Sanders pleaded not
guilty at his court hearing in
Alexandria, La. to the charges
of kidnapping the 12-year-old
girl whose remains were found
by hunters in the woods near
Harrisonburg, Miss.
Sanders, 53, was photo
graphed wearing a bullet-proof

A woman was arrested
on Patrick Mill Road Nov.
15 by the Winder Police
Department for possession
of marijuana.
After officers noticed a
driver run a stop sign at the
intersection of Patrick Mill
and Circle Drive, they pulled
over Kathleen Finnerty
and asked for her driver's
license.
Officers reportedly imme
diately smelled alcohol com
ing from the vehicle and it

form.
The judge stated the maxi
mum penalty for the kidnap
ping charge could be life in
prison, but that Sanders could
face the death penalty if it is
determined that the kidnapping
led to her death.
After a nation-wide man-
was discovered her passen
ger had been drinking.
During the search for open
alcoholic containers offi
cers discovered a bottle of
Excedrin which contained
not pills, but a small amount
of a green leafy substance.
Finnerty reportedly admit
ted to the substance being
marijuana.
After officers attempted
many numbers provided by
the driver to locate some
one to take possession of
hunt Sanders was arrested in
Mississippi after a waitress
called the FBI.
Authorities are continuing to
mount evidence on the case in
order to determine if the mur
der is in correlation with the
kidnapping.
However, Sanders was
caught on video purchasing
the vehicle, a towing service
was called to pick it up.
Other arrests made by the
Winder Police Department
include:
•Terri H. Rawlins, 53,
of 1432 Starcrest Drive,
Conyers, DUI.
•Madison Keith Martin,
25, of 86 Mount Moriah
Road, Auburn, shoplifting.
•James Albert Hudson, 26,
of 281 Hidden Acres Road,
Winder, shoplifting.
•Ronald Barnes, 53, of
ammunition that is consis
tent with the victim's gunshot
wounds.
The victim’s mother Suellen
Roberts is still missing, and
authorities believe Sanders is
also responsible for that.
Sanders was once a resident
of Winder, and was prosecuted
locally for cruelty to children.

diction.
•Tony Lewis Esco, 48, of
308 Lumpkin Street, Winder,
shoplifting.

168 East Oak Street, Winder,
false information.
•Alexis Johnson, 27, of
168 East Oak Street, Winder,
obstruction.
Officers from the Auburn
Police Department were dis
patched to a residence on
Meadow Trace Nov. 17 in refer
ence to phone harassment.
Upon arrival officers met with
a woman who claimed to have
received a harassing text mes
sage.
The woman called the num
ber back to receive no answer
but was able to identify another
woman who in the past had been
advised to not make contact with
her family.
The subject received a phone
call that night from the APD.
The woman accused of the
harassing text told officers it was
meant for someone other than
the complainant in reference to
a Facebook message.
Officers told the accused
woman not to make any more
contact with anyone at that resi
dence in the future. Other inves
tigations by the APD include:
•A Carter Road woman claims
that her vehicle's tag was stolen
while she was at work.
•A Johns Bluff man claimed
that his mother was refusing to
leave his residence. After the
accused woman was questioned
by officers she opted to take a
cab ride home.
•An Atlanta Highway man
claimed that a young girl shuck
the side of the building he
worked in. On arrival officers
questioned the juvenile driver
and she explained her foot sim
ply slipped off the gas.
•Trespassing at a Pointers
Way address. Officers found the
back door of a foreclosed home
kicked in.
•A domestic dispute between
two parties on River Glen
Road.

Intruders destroy inactive cameras in commercial building
On Nov. 18 Winder Police
Department officers arrived at a
commercial building on North
Broad Street that had reportedly
been burglarized.
The building is under construc
tion and when officers arrived on
scene they spoke with two con
struction workers about the break-
in.
The workers stated that a rear
window in the building had been
removed and the cameras had
been removed which had dam
aged the ceiling.
The camera box had also been
damaged along with the door and
key box. All the cameras that had
been damaged or taken down were
not working cameras. Nothing was
reported stolen or out of place in
the building. Other incidents being
investigated by the WPD include:
•An attempted burglary on
Harpy Eagle Drive. Officers
responded to an alarm and found
a broken window at the residence.
Nothing was misplaced or miss
ing.
•A burglary on North Broad
Street. A woman claims several
items including her social security
card were stolen from her home.
•A reported burglary at an
Embassy Walk address. When
officers responded they found a
window broken at the residence,
but nothing appeared to be miss
ing.
•On Wade Street a woman
claims her front door was dam
aged in an attempted burglary.
•On North Broad Street an
employee at a local business claims
she was payed with a counterfeit
$100 bill.
•A black purse was found at
a residence on North Avenue. It
contained $20 and no ID.
•A warrant was issued for a
man who gave false information
to police officers.
STATHAM INCIDENT REPORTS
Ongoing investigations by Statham Police listed
The following incidents are
under investigation by the
Statham Police Department:
•An armed robbery attempt
on Euclid Street. Two vic
tims were approached by
four suspects and held at
gunpoint.
•A theft on Butterfly
Lane.
•A damage to property on
Broad Street
•A custody dispute
Atlanta Highway.

A bandana-wearing man run
ning to a jewelry store caught
the attention of an employee and
Braselton police, according to an
incident report.
The owner of Gold and
Diamond Buyers on Ga. Hwy.
211 said a man wearing a ban
dana over his face was running to
the store on Wednesday, Nov. 17.
The owner got scared and locked
the door.
The suspect then ran back
across the state highway to a park-
and-ride at the intersection of Ga.
Hwy. 124, where he got into a
white 1996 Cadillac Deville.
A Braselton officer spotted the
vehicle in the park-and-ride and
tried to contact the two men in
the Cadillac, which then started to
drive out of a parking space.
The officer told the driver to
stop, but the vehicle continued
to pull out, according to an inci
dent report. The officer ran back
to his vehicle, activated his blue
lights and followed the Cadillac
as it drove to 1-85. It eventually
stopped on mile marker 122 on
the interstate.
The two men in the vehicle
were taken into custody without
incident, according to Braselton
police. A passenger was cited for
not wearing his seatbelt.
The driver, Gregg Delane Dees
Jr., 26, of Atlanta, was taken to
the Gwinnett County Detention
Center.
He was charged with suspi
cious person, fleeing police, fail
ure to obey traffic control device,
failure to yield at an intersection,
failure to maintain lane, driving
in the emergency lane, speeding,
reckless driving, failure to signal
when turning or changing lanes,
removing or affixing license with
intent to conceal, following too
close, driver not exercising due
care and obstruction.
