A native of Lexington,
he was the son of Sallie
Mae McElhannon of
Lexington and the late
Edgar Lee Arnold. He
was preceded in death

Arnold; and a sister, Annie
Arnold.
Survivors include a
daughter, Heather Arnold;
son, Dustin Arnold; five
stepchildren; three sis
ters, Rosa Lee Ivie,

the Bethesda Methodist

Mrs. Beck was born in

She was a member of

Church and was a home
maker.
Survivors include her

86, went

October 16, 2011.
He was born May 12,
1925, the son of the late
Charlie W. and Nora
Smith Brown. He is the
last of 12 siblings. He was
a member of the Calvary
Baptist Church, VFW
Post 909, the Masons,
American Legion Post
100, and was a veteran of
World War II. Tom was
loved, admired and was
respected by all he came
in contact with.
Survivors include spe
cial friends, Shirl and
Randy Hart, Commerce;
and a large number of
nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were
held Tuesday, October
18, from the chapel of
Ivie Funeral Home with
the Revs. Donald Wilson,
Swayne Cochran and

University Nursing and
Rehab Center in Athens.
Born in Jackson County,
she was the daughter of
the late Curtis and Bessie
Howington Smith. Mrs.
Carter was preceded in
death by her husband,
Larry Carter.
Survivors include chil
dren, Brenda Ledford and
Greg L. Wardlaw, both of
Nicholson; grandchild,
Ryan Ledford; great
grandchild, Lonna J.
Ledford; siblings, Myrtice
Clifton, Charlie Smith
and Dwain Smith, all of
Nicholson; and nieces and
nephews.

COMMERCE - Beth
Ann Cupit-Spurgeon, 26,
went to heaven from non-
suffered injuries sustained
in a motorcycle accident
on Highway 78 in Wilkes
County on August 22,
2011.
Born in Baton Rouge,
La., she was the daughter
of Earl and Sherri Cupit.
Beth graduated from
New Horizons Medical
Institute with a CNA and
Phlebotomy certifications
in 2004. She was married
to David E. Spurgeon Jr.
on 12 February 2005.
She will be missed
by her daughter, Wendy
Spurgeon; brothers,
Chad Belzer and James
Arnold; husband, parents,
nieces, aunts, uncles,
cousins, stepchildren,
step-grandson, in-laws,
and of course her friends.
Beth is remembered by
her beautiful smile, how
sharp she was to speak
up and speak her mind
and her ability to keep in
touch with everyone she
loved. She was like the
glue that kept everyone
together. She truly knew
love and how to love.
She did not belong to a
church, but she studied
her Bible daily and was a
devout Christian.
Funeral services were
held Saturday, October 15,
from Little & Davenport
Funeral Home. A motor
cycle ride was scheduled
to begin at the funeral
home and end in Clayton.
There was a meal at the
end of the ride.

She retired from General
TimeAVestclox after 32
years due to her health.
She was a member of

Matt Lacey, 83, died on
Wednesday, October 12,
2011, at his residence.
Rev. Lacey was born May
5,1928, in Commerce, the
son of the late Oddis and
Sallie Lacey. Rev. Lacey
was preceded in death
by brothers, Calvin and
Carl Lacey; and a sister,
Margie Kinsey.
Rev. Lacey dedicated his
life to being a servant of
God. During his 55-year
ministry, Rev. Lacey
served as pastor to sev
eral Baptist Churches in
north Georgia. He deeply
impacted those who knew
him and served his com
munity, friends, and fam
ily in many ways through
out his blessed lifetime.
There are no words
to express how deeply
he will be missed. Rev.
Lacey was a loving hus
band to his precious wife
of 65 years, Mary Lou
Lacey, and was an amaz
ing example to his chil
dren, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.

his loving wife, Mary
