IRS seeks volunteers for tax preparation
The IRS and its partners are
seeking volunteers to help pre
pare simple federal tax returns
for free for people whose
incomes are $50,000 or less.
“People of all ages and
backgrounds are welcome to
volunteer,” said Mark Green,
a spokesperson for the IRS.
“There is a role for anyone
who is interested and wants to
help.”
Volunteers can help in three
separate capacities: Return
preparer, site coordinator (site
supervisor or site manager)
and greeter. Site coordinators
(supervisors) may also prepare
returns. Greeters will generally
also answer simple questions
and distribute forms.
Training is usually held
between November and
January, and volunteers gen
erally study online with Link
& Learn Taxes to obtain their
volunteer certification.
The Link & Learn program
is an interactive course that
teaches all of the basics needed
to prepare simple income tax
returns accurately for individu
als. Classroom training may
also be available.
Once certified, volunteers
spend as little as three to four
hours per week volunteering
between the months of February
and April.
Each year, millions of people
receive assistance through the
programs. In Georgia, more
than 1,405 volunteers through
the IRS' Volunteer Income Tax
Assistance (VITA) and Tax
Counseling for the Elderly
(TCE) programs helped more
than 70,000 Georgia taxpayers.
To volunteer, send an e-mail
to taxvolunteer@irs.gov or
contact Joci Padrutt, IRS-SPEC
Adanta Territory at 404-338-
8387.

the IRS volunteer tax prepara
tion programs, visit www.IRS.

‘A Winter Wonderland’ is theme for festivities
The Celebrate the Holidays in Braselton
committee has announced that this year's fes
tival and parade theme will be “A Winter
Wonderland.”
Festivities will begin on Saturday, Nov.
12, at 5:30 p.m. at the Braselton Brothers
Store (Braselton Antique Mall) as the Town
Christmas Tree is lit amongst singing, dancing
and prize drawing for all attendees. The store is
located at the intersection of Ga. Hwy. 124 and
Ga. Hwy. 53 in downtown Braselton.
The event will also include a special guest
“to create nostalgia for all who attend and some
very exciting surprises,” according to organiz
ers. After the tree lighting, there will be a free
showing of “Cars 2” in the Braselton Park.
On Saturday, Nov. 19, booths will be open in
the Braselton Park from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with
the parade scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
“Come watch our Winter Wonderland
Princess, as she travels down the parade route
on Highway 53,” according to organizers. “She
will be escorting our special grand marshals
and casting winter spells all over the Braselton
kingdom. Prepare for a wintry good time.”
Organizers are also seeking businesses and
groups to be presented in the parade. Guidelines
and registration forms are available at the
Braselton Town Hall and Northeast Georgia
Bank.
There is no entry fee for those who par
ticipate in the parade. Three cash prizes will
be awarded to the best floats. All registrations
forms must be received by Monday, Nov. 14.

The Gwinnett Children’s

serves more than 200 young
people residentially — grew
out of a volunteer effort involv
ing PTA, business and com
munity leaders who recognized
a need for services for abused
and abandoned children.
The shelter depends on com
munity donations to provide its
services, and the annual Chateau
Elan Tour of Homes event and
now the Vineyard Run for Hope
have been among their largest
fundraisers for several years.
Over the past nine years, the
Chateau Elan community has
welcomed thousands of visitors
and raised more than $1 million
for the charity.

Braselton collecting donations for food pantries
The Town of Braselton is
collecting canned goods, as
part of the Gwinnett Municipal
Association’s (GwMA) “CAN”
Do effort.
The “CAN” Do project is
part of the GwMA’s ongoing
project to fight hunger in local
communities by filling the
shelves of local food pantries.
Cities in Gwinnett County are
teaming together to meet the
needs of hungry families.
The goal is to support local
food co-ops and pantries by
collecting canned foods and
dry grocery staples at munici
pal events throughout the year.
Essential items needed
through the “CAN” Do effort
include: Canned goods and
dry foods, such as rice and
beans: canned meats (luncheon
meat, spam, tuna); personal
hygiene items including tooth
paste, brushes, shampoo, soap,
deodorant; paper goods; and
cleaning products, such as dish
and laundry detergents. Donors
are asked not to give any glass
container items that may break
or items that are beyond their
expiration date.
Collection containers are
located at the Braselton Town
Hall, located at 4982 Highway
53, and collection drives will
occur during the month of
November at the Holidays in
Braselton events on Nov. 12
and Nov. 19.

contact Jennifer Dees, town
manager, at 706-654-5720 or
