Barrow 4-H attends Rally at the Falls
What happens when 150 6-8 grade
4-H members from across north Georgia
gather together? Rally at the Falls at
Wahsega 4-H Center, of course. Junior
Rally, as it is also known, is an annual
event in which Junior 4-H members
(grades 6-8) can come together for a
weekend and have fun, as well as learn
about programs that 4-H has to offer
them.
This year’s Junior Rally took place
April 27-28 at Wahsega 4-H Center, a
few miles outside of Dahlonega. Barrow
County 4-H members Donny Kulp,
Kody Etheridge, Mylan Collier and
Trent Cwiertniak attended Junior Rally
this year.
In addition to the rally’s normal activi
ties, it was also marked by Global Youth
Service Day and the 4-H members did
not shy away from the good work that
could be done. From gathering togeth
er supplies to be donated to a Henry
County foster home called “A Friend’s
Place" the youth also cleaned up the
grounds around Wahsega and planted
flowers at the Wahsega entrance.
In addition to Global Youth Service
Day, they had excitement on the camp
zip line and flying squirrel. They took
a Junk Drawer Robotics class taught
by Barrow 4-H staff member Jonathan
Page, where the youth worked together
in teams to build a Clipmobile out of
random supplies while also learning
budgeting and thrifty spending. They
also rotated through 4-H and More class
es about the many opportunities 4-H has
to offer including BB Gun and Poultry
Judging. Though slightly marred by rain,
Junior Rally was considered a successful
event by all in attendance.
