Deaton Creek community presents
Tri-County Amateur Radio Club
The Deaton Creek Active Adult commu
nity recently hosted a presentation by the Tri-
County Amateur Radio Club. The purpose of
the presentation was to raise awareness about
the need for emergency preparedness and how
amateur radio operators (“hams”) train and
prepare to support emergency services during
disasters.
“The Deaton Creek folks attending the pre
sentation were great and expressed a real inter
est in how their community could take steps
to be better prepared for an emergency,” said
A1 Mieger, Tri-County Club President, in a
statement.
Chuck Johnson, who is a resident at Deaton
Creek and a member of the Tri-County Club,
helped set up and coordinate the program.
Members of the Tri-County Club conduct
ing the presentation included Nathanial (Nat)
Christman, A1 Mieger and Bob Richardson.
Also participating in the presentation dur
ing an on-air demonstration emergency net
were Donna Richardson and Warren Walker.
Additional club members responded and
checked in during the on-air net from various
locations within Hall and Jackson Counties to
demonstrate communication capabilities.

Radio Club, contact Bob Richardson, 770-868-

HCA students learn from
the past on History Day
Hope Christian Academy students were
recently able to take a trip back in time
without even leaving school.
Joey and Amanda Young of Old Paths
Re-Enactors Mission came to present a cha
pel program and a replica Civil War camp.
The Youngs attend many Civil War reenact
ments around Georgia as part of the Georgia
Volunteer Battalion. For the Youngs, how
ever, it is more that a hobby, it is a mission.
Joey Young portrays a Civil War chap
lain during the reenactments and also holds
Sunday services as a chaplain would do.
Mr. Young feels this is the best way to use
his gift as a pastor. He and his wife agree
that the Gospel has been brought to many
people who otherwise would have never
heard it.
The Young’s shared with the students at
HCA examples of this unique mission work
that they do. After chapel, the students were
able to get a glimpse into history as they
were led back to a Civil War campsite and
were allowed to see different items a soldier
would have carried during the war.
