Ruth Cook Akins, 86, passed
away Wednesday, June 12,
2013.
She was the daughter of
the late Edgar Ernest and
Johnnie Lou Thompson
Cook. During her life she
was a member of the New
Pentecost United Methodist
Church. She sang and
played piano for the church
choir. She worked as a sec
retary for Statham Garment
and retired from Bank South
as a teller. Mrs. Akins was
preceded in death by a
brother, “Doc” Cook; and
four sisters, Frances Clack,
Montene “Tom” Hulsey,
Maxine Skinner, and Annie
Dean Mount.
Survivors include her hus
band, Floyd Lamar Akins
Sr., Statham; a son, Floyd
“Buddy” Akins Jr., Statham;
two brothers, Jack Lester
(Jean) Cook, Winder, and
Harry Lee (Shirley) Cook,
Auburn; and one sister,
Phoebe Cook (“Wick”)
Dillashaw, Cornelia.

held Friday, June 14, at
Barrow Memorial Gardens
in Winder with the Rev.

Center.
She was born in
Commerce, the daughter
of Juanita Ayers Gardiner
of Commerce and the late
Albert Swayne Gardiner.
She was of the Baptist
denomination and was self-
employed at B&G Fuel
Systems.
Survivors in addition to her
mother, include her husband,
Rabah Beituni, Commerce;
daughter, Jessica Beituni,
Commerce; and a son, Saeed
Beituni, Atlanta.
Graveside services were
held Monday, June 17, at
Grey Hill Cemetery.

She was

Chamblee,
the daugh

Mary Ann Camp Johnson of
Jefferson and the late Luther
Johnson. She was a LPN with
Northeast Georgia Medical
Center and was a member
of the Sanctuary Baptist
Church in Loganville. Mrs.
Davis was preceded in death
by brothers, Ronald and
Tommy Johnson.
Survivors in addition to
her mother include her hus
band, Terry Davis, Jefferson;
sons and daughter-in-law,
John and Stephanie Davis,
Winder, and Jason Davis,
Auburn; brother, Steve
Davis, Braselton; grand

He was born in Jackson
County, the son of Muarl
Davis of
Jefferson

H. Davis.
He was a
partner,
along with
his father,
in the L.H.
Davis Logging Company.
He was a member of the
Academy Baptist Church,
and was an avid hunter, fish
erman and animal lover.

ters and son-in-law, Stevie

Henrietta Davis, Hoschton;
and grandson, Griffin Hurst.

“Mutt” Faulkner, 64, lov
ing husband of 41 years to
Gilda Booth Faulkner, died
Wednesday, June 12, 2013.
A native of Colbert, he
was the son of the late Roy
A. and Allie Mae Melton
Faulkner. He served his
country in the United States
Army and retired from the
US Post Office
after 33 years.
Mutt truly
loved his fam
ily, especially his children
and grandchildren, who
affectionately called him
Papa or Poppy.
Survivors in addition
to his wife include three

Faulkner, Hull, Josh
(Sheyna) Faulkner, Athens,
and Carrie (Troy) Yancey,

Vera Loftin
LOGANVILLE Vera
Dove Still Loftin, 97, passed
away Saturday, June 15,
2013, at Clearview Regional
Medical Center in Monroe,
of heart failure.
She was preceded in death
by her husband, Colonel
Robert Taylor Loftin, Jr.,
United States Air Force,
Retired; granddaughter,
Lauren Kate Loftin; par
ents, William Ira Still, Sr.
and Dovie Viola Atkinson
Still; and brothers and sister,
William Ira Still, Jr., Harold
Royce Still and Ruby Lee
Still Blankenship.
Bom in Youth, Georgia,
on February 5, 1916, Mrs.
Loftin attended Walton
County Schools and gradu
ated from Monroe High
School. After finishing
business school, she worked
in Atlanta, until she met
and married Col. Loftin on
December 12, 1941 and
began her career as a home
maker. After several moves
during World War II and
Korea, she settled in Atlanta,
and then Decatur. In 2000
she moved to Bethlehem
and then Loganville in
2012. She was raised in the
Corinth Christian Church in
Loganville. Once she was
married, she became a long
time member of the First
Christian Church of Atlanta
where she was a member
of the Christian Women’s
Fellowship and Crusaders
Class. After Mrs. Loftin
settled in Bethlehem and
Loganville she again attend
ed the Corinth Christian
Church, where she was a
member of the Progressive
Co-ed Class. At 97 years
old, grandmother, aunt Vera,
or Miss Vera as she was
affectionately called, lived
independently, cooked her
own meals, kept a spotless
house, and lived with her
kitty, Katie. She still drove
and attended church regular
ly. At her birthday celebra
tion this past February, she
was seen on her knees play
ing with one of the children
and she got up without any
help. Until a year ago she
had been in great health and
had not been in a hospital
as a patient since the births
of her two boys some sixty
years ago. An avid sports
fan, she especially loved
college football, basketball,
baseball, golf and hockey,
loved ones stated. She knew
as much about the games
as anyone. She loved her
immediate and extended
family, her family of friends,
her church and her trav
el. She was an avid reader
and enjoyed a good book
over television, unless there
was a game being televised.

daughters-in-law, Robert Ira
Loftin and Judy Lee Hill
Loftin, and Mark Still Loftin
and Anita Louise Sanders
Loftin; grandchildren, Jarrad
Michael Vaughn, Olivia

N.C. on March 27, 1924, she
was the daughter of the late
Charlie M. and Pearl Fowler
Lance. She was preceded in
death by her husband, W.L.
Tiner; and a son, Bill Tiner.
Survivors include children,

Charlie (Mary) Tiner,
Jonesboro, and Sue (Jerry)
Scogin, Carlton; and numer

great-great-grandchildren.

WINDER - Margaret Jean
Urey, 88, died Wednesday,
June 12, 2013.
A native of Franklin, Pa.,
she was the daughter of the
late Kenny and Millie Kinch
Lusher. She was preceded
in death by her husband,
Bob Urey; a son, Tom Urey;
grandson, Terry Acker;
and great-granddaughter,
Stephanie Summerour.
Mrs. Urey was affection
ately known to her family
as “Motha,” “Ooey,” “Noni”
and “Mawmaw.” She was a
retired supervisor with the
John Harland Company and
was a member of the Winder
First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include chil
dren, Jon (Laura) Urey,
Elizabethtown, Ky.,
Charlotte Urey, Winder,
and Debra Bonser,
Lawrenceville; daughter-
