•Chief Moulder report
ed April is National Child
Abuse Awareness month.
Moulder would like to start
up some proactive programs
in the city and two organi
zations have volunteered to
assist.
Hopefully the programs
would serve to “try to make
it not so scary to reach out
for help when needed,” said
Blechinger.
•Chief Moulder report
ed Officer Missy Norwood
lost her home to a fire last
month and a fund has been
established at Community
and Southern Bank to assist
with her needs. Moulder
read a letter from Norwood
expressing her appreciation
for the “overwhelming sup
port” of city officials, staff
and the community.
•The council approved
using SPLOST funds up to
$20,000 for the city's por
tion of the construction of
a deceleration lane on 6th
Street at the rear entrance
to Auburn Elementary
School. The city has
applied for and received
Georgia Department of
Transportation LMIG
(Local Maintenance and
Improvements Grant) in the
amount of $40,000 to assist

Brannon learned that she
had not had any children,
married at 39 and now
worked at a laboratory sup
ply company.
She was 19-years-old and
in college when she became
pregnant. Brannon’s biolog
ical father had left and she
had placed Brannon into
adoption through DFCS.
“I was very grateful that
she did that,” said Brannon.
“It was a very selfless thing
to do.”
Brannon also learned that
for the first three weeks
of his life, his name was
Michael.
The events surrounding
the adoption led her to pur
sue a job as a manager of
foster care for DFCS and
she also worked in adoption
placement services. She told
Brannon that through this
job, she made sure to place
children in the best possible
homes, as she hoped he had
been.
The two spoke on the
phone and arranged to meet
for lunch in Duluth.
“We met for four hours
on a Sunday,” said Brannon.
“We brought picture
albums, baby books, high
school yearbooks.”
The two unknowingly
wore the same color shirt to
the meeting, both loved the
Dawgs and had the same
positive, sunny dispositions.
Brannon had rented a
house in college that was
less than three miles from
where she lives now. And on
her drives to UGA football
games, she would pass by
the Brannons’ house.
The two have spoken
through email and phone
since this first meeting and
plan to meet again for the
G-Day Game.
She met his wife, Devre,
at the first meeting and
Brannon also hopes to intro
duce her to his two children,
Patrick and Cayde.
Brannon says that he’s
grateful that while these sit
uations can often turn bad,
his story has a happy end
ing.
“It was as good of a situ
ation that it could be,” said
Brannon. “It worked out for
her. It worked out for me.
And it worked out for my
parents. For that, I’m thank
ful.”

•The council approved
a request for use of
Whistlestop Park and clo

the 5th annual Defenders of
Freedom Motorcycle Ride,

•The council approved an
intergovernmental agree
ment with Barrow county
and it’s cities for distribution
of Title Ad Valorem Tax.
•The council approved
a quote from Lockstep
Technology Group to serve
as Information Technology
Solutions Consultant for the
