It's homecoming time for Mill
Creek Friday night as the Hawks
host the Forsyth Central Bulldogs.
Forsyth comes to town with a 2-3
record after having lost to Peachtree
Ridge Friday night.
Last week, the Hawks moved to
4-2 after a 35-9 thrashing of the
North Forsyth Raiders at the Raiders'
homecoming.
Hawks head coach Shannon
Jarvis said the Hawks would have
to improve its focus if the team
expected to defeat the Bulldogs.
“Central’s got a good team; they’ve
beat us two years in a row,” said
Jarvis. “I’m going to make sure our
kids remember that. We're going to
have our hands full.”
Jarvis said his team must be better
mentally prepared in order to beat
Forsyth Central.
“If we come out and play as slop
py as we did (last week), we might
not win another game,” he said.
Kickoff in Hoschton is scheduled
for 7:30 p.m. The forecast calls for
temperatures in the upper 60s with a
slight chance of precipitation.
LAST WEEK
Although the Hawks walked away
with a big win, Jarvis wasn't totally
pleased with his team’s effort last
week.
“I wasn't happy with our focus at
all,” said Jarvis. “That score is very
misleading; they had a chance to
beat us.”
The Hawks put a damper on the
Raiders' homecoming celebrations
early when Mill Creek junior Scott
Ooley intercepted a pass less than
three minutes into the first quar
ter. Taking possession on the North
Forsyth 14 yard line, Mill Creek
scored two plays later on a 12 yard
run by senior Eric Hicks. Senior
Baxter Smith split the uprights on
the extra point attempt to give the
Hawks an early 7-0 lead with 8:35
remaining in the first quarter.
The Hawks threatened again late
in the first quarter, but failed to
score after turning the ball over three
yards away from the goal line.

possession several times early in the

second period before the Raiders
began their longest drive of the night.
Starting on their own 30, the Raiders
moved the ball to the Mill Creek
three yard line before being forced
to settle for a field goal with 35 sec
onds remaining in the first half.
Not content to go to the locker
room and regroup, the Raiders gam
bled and attempted an onside kick.
Mill Creek recovered the ball near
the 50-yard line. Zach Landis threw
to Lenny Brooks for another Mill
Creek touchdown with 19 seconds
remaining in the half. Baxter Smith
kicked the extra point giving the
Hawks a 14-3 lead.
Turnovers continued in the third
quarter with the biggest coming on a
failed Raiders attempt to convert on
fourth down deep in their own ter
ritory. Mill Creek took over on the
North Forsyth 30-yard line, setting
up Lenny Brooks’ second touch
down of the evening. Baxter Smith’s
point after kick put the score at 21-3
with 3:35 left in the quarter.
The Raiders showed life early in
the fourth when the Hawks turned
the ball over at the Mill Creek 25
yard line. Ten plays and two fourth
down conversions later, Eli Chester
scored North Forsyth’s only touch
down of the evening on a one yard
quarterback sneak. A failed PAT left
the score at 21-9.
Interceptions by both teams
caused possession to seesaw back
and forth late in the fourth quarter.
Raiders quarterback Eli Chester was
picked-off for the second time of the
evening near the North Forsyth 38.
Lenny Brooks picked up 38 yards on
two carries, the second a five yard
touchdown run. The extra point by
Smith was good giving the Hawks a
28-9 lead with 2:28 remaining.
Chester was intercepted again late
in the fourth quarter, this time by
Mill Creek’s Bart Kennedy. A 28
yard run by Lenny Brooks resulted
in another touchdown for the Hawks
with 1:28 left in the game. Baxter
Smith kicked the extra point making
the final score 35-9.
Coach Jarvis said he was not sur
prised that Raiders coach Jared Zito
took so many chances during the
game. “We’ve been in their boat.
He’s trying to give them a jump
start. I can see why he did it. We’ve
had to do stuff like that in the past
three years.”
“It didn't work for him, so it looked
bad. If it had worked, it would have
been genius,” said Jarvis.
Zach Landis passed for 111 yards,
completing 5 of 13 attempts. Lenny
Brooks led the Hawks in rushing and
receiving. Brooks gained 150 yards
on 17 carries and had one reception
for 55 yards. The defense was led
by Collin Stuart with six tackles and
eight assists. Baxter Smith went 5
for 5 on PATs.

Audi does it again, grabs 10th annual Petit Le Mans
McNish and Capello capture
closest win in event history
After 1,000 miles and 394 laps, it came down to just 0.923 seconds
between the premier teams in sports car racing. This time, the moment
belonged to Dindo Capello and Allan McNish as Audi remained unbeat
en at Petit Le Mans with diesel power.
Capello passed Penske Racing’s Romain Dumas at the nine-hour
mark down the backstretch and used the torque and power of the Audi
R10 TDI to win the 10th running of the American Le Mans Series cor
nerstone event at Road Atlanta. McNish and Capello captured the first
overall victory for Audi since St. Petersburg in March and completed
another Audi sweep of the world’s premier endurance events: Sebring,
Le Mans and Petit Le Mans.
The margin of victory was the closest in the race’s 10 years.
“This one meant a lot more to us, partly because we have been very
close to winning overall in quite a few of the past races but it managed
to slip away,” McNish said. “It is one of the hardest races we’ve had and
certainly in my eyes the best race Dindo ever has had. This whole season
has been a team effort. Audi has never sat back. This is what we’re here
to do - win outright.”
Capello’s drive also was a championship-winning one as he and
McNish claimed their second straight LMP1 driver’s title. Audi now has
won 21 consecutive races in class.
A caution period with 40 minutes left wiped out what had been a
30-second lead for Dumas and his Porsche RS Spyder. The Porsche and
the Audi were separated by just five seconds and four cars when the
green flag dropped. It took Capello eight minutes to make the winning
pass.
