Hawks get Homecoming
win over Bulldogs, 16-0
BY BRANDON REED
It may not have been pretty, but it was a Homecoming win Friday night
for the Mill Creek Hawks, as they defeated the Forsyth Central Bulldogs
16-0 in a game that saw 15 Mill Creek penalties for 118 yards.
“It’s a region win, we’re going to take it and run with it,” said head
football coach Shannon Jarvis. “The concern I have is that so many of
the penalties were unforced penalties, in regards to jumping off sides and
the procedures. We really regressed in that area. That’s been a concern
we’ve had this year, as far as maintaining our focus, especially as the
season goes on. That’s just a lack of concentration and focus.”
Mill Creek now looks towards Friday night’s matchup in Hoschton
with Norcross, who enters the game with a 5-1 overall record, and 3-1
in the region.
Back And Forth
Defensively, both teams seemed to match each other. Both sides could
recover on turnovers, and both could make drives down the field. But
early on, neither team seemed to be able to make the drives pay off.
Mill Creek drew first blood, when Zach Landis connected to Lenny
Brooks for the Hawks first touchdown with 43 seconds remaining in the
first quarter.
For the second quarter, it was again a battle of the defenses, as both
teams put together drives to put them into range, but neither could find
the end zone.
After the half, it was more of the same, as both teams went scoreless
in the third quarter. But with 10:52 left in the fourth quarter, Mill Creek
again scored, this time with Ramael Wilson running in from one yard
out. With the PAT good, that put the Hawks up 14-0.
The last scoring of the game came for Mill Creek when officials called
intentional grounding against Forsyth Central quarterback Cody Majors
in the end zone with less than two minutes remaining in the game, mak
ing the score 16-0.
Jarvis said it was a sloppy game.
“The credit is this,” he said. “As sloppy as it was, even offensively, we
had a 17 play drive that scored to get a two touchdown lead. There were
some positives in the game, but after a win, you get to identify the nega
tives a little better and get them fixed on the practice field.
“I don’t think there’s a player on our team that was happy with the way
they played and we’re still sitting here at 4-1 in the region, and can build
off that win and hopefully get those mistakes fixed.”
The Numbers
Chris Avery was the leading receiver for the Hawks Friday night,
going 104 yards on 5 catches. Glendon Jones led in rushing, going 59

Lady Hawks now three time region champs
Mill Creek to face Harrison Friday
BY BRANDON REED
The Mill Creek Lady Hawks are now three time region 7-AAAAA
champs.
The team claimed their third consecutive region championship
last Wednesday night with a 3-0 victory over the Collins Hill Lady
Eagles.
Morgan Bullock pitched a complete game shutout, while Amberlie
Saxton added two hits, including the game-winning run. Stephanie
Konkle drove in two runs with a base hit, and Allie Millonig had two
hits as well.
“It was a great game,” said head softball coach Kelly Murdock. “We
waited until the top of the seventh to score, we scored three runs, and
held them in the bottom of the seventh.”
Murdock said it was a hard fought win against a strong Collins Hill
team.
“It was extremely tough,” she said. “Anytime you play a team like
Collins Hill, you’re fighting for everything you have.”
The Lady Hawks will have a little time to savor their third con
secutive championship, but then it’s back to work as playoffs begin
on Friday. Mill Creek will start off against Harrison High School at
4 p.m.
“We’re just going to continue to try to play good defense,” Murdock
said. “We want to have quality at bats at the plate, that’s been a big key
for us, and try to squeeze a few runs across.
“Harrison is a very good team, and every team we face from now on
will be. We’ll just see what happens.”
