A native of Athens, he was the son of the late Frank and Veronica Hughes. He graduated from Athens High School in 1966, and was a life long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He was in law enforcement for over 32 years. Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Hughes. Survivors include his wife, Jan Hughes; daughter, Bryony; step-chil dren and spouses, Zachary and Jessica Richardson and Meg Richardson and Jeff Blake; grandchildren, Kraydan and Anslie Richardson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ned and Dolores Hughes, Watkinsville, and Jeff and Judy Hughes, Flowery Branch; sis ters and brothers-in-law, Cindy and Jerry Childs and Mary Perry, all of Commerce, Margaret and Joe Chancey, Winder; a number of niec es, nephews, cousins and extended daughter, Candace Mitchell. Funeral services were held Thursday, October 11, at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Prince Ave. Burial was in Evergreen Memorial Park. Pallbearers were J.R. Garrett, Jimmy Carroll, Doug Mattocks, Mike Young, Scott Berry, Hayden Hodges, Wayne Martin and Virgil Welch. Honorary pallbearers were Clarke County Sheriff’s Office, Clarke County old and new Police Department and the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office. She was bom in Barrow County and was the daughter of the late J.T. and Mamie Lee O’Kelly Morris. She was a member of Bethabra Baptist Church and was a retiree of R. & R. Manufacturing Company. Mrs. England was preceded in death by her husband, Horace England in 1989. Survivors include a daughter, Linda England, Jefferson; son and daugh- ter-in-law, Chris and Lisa England, Winder; sister, Ann Ridgeway, Bethlehem; brothers, Bobby Morris, Bogart, and Sam Morris, Daytona Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorial graveside services were held Wednesday, October 17, at Rose Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Donnie Pennington officiating. Bom in Greene County on August 1, 1919, he was the son of the late Jasper Newt and Minnie Weaver Thomas. He was employed in the manufacturing industry for a num ber of years and was a member of Dewberry No. 2 Baptist Church in Gainesville. Mr. Thomas was pre ceded in death by his first wife of 60 years, Kathleen Key Thomas; sons, Donald Thomas and Horace Grady Thomas; brothers, Elic, Robert, Kermit, Albert, Herman and Allen Thomas; and sisters, Etheline Thomas, Irene Walden, Vera Shubert, Annie Mae Sims and Pauline Winkler. When he was able, he enjoyed gar dening and rabbit hunting, according to loved ones. Survivors include his wife, Susie Garrison Thomas, Alto; a daughter, Shirley Conner, Lula; son, Eddie Thomas, Gainesville; step-daughter, Quetta Watson, California; step-son, William Lamar Burgess, Gainesville; sisters, Estelle Tankersley, Cornelia, and Flora Walden, Cleveland; five grandchildren; seven great-grand children; and several great-great- grandchildren. Ray Lapsky Commerce Ray Lapsky, 72, of Hillhaven Nursing Home in Commerce, died Saturday, October 6, 2007. A native of London, England, she was the daughter of the late Aaron and Yetta Cohen Schaverien. Mrs. Lapsky was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Lapsky. She was a member of the Crooked Creek Baptist Church. Survivors include three sons, David Lapsky and longtime com panion, Wanda Bryant, both of Jefferson, Lee Lapsky, Winder, and Steven Lapsky, Athens; a daughter, Michele Fenney, High Point, N.C.; brothers, Benny Schaverien and Judah Schaverien, both of London, England; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A native of Barrow County, she was the daughter of the late Emmett and Martha Mobley Manders. She was a member of The Winder First United Methodist Church and was a retiree of Carwood Manufacturing Company, where she served as an accountant. Mrs. Kesler was pre ceded in death by her husband, David Kesler; and a daughter, Lois Hopkins. Survivors include grandsons and spouses, Ricky and Sharon Hopkins, Bethlehem, Rusty and Susan Hopkins, Gainesville; son- in-law, Gene Hopkins, Winder; great-grandchildren, Jason Hopkins, Jeremy Hopkins, Lainey Hopkins and Andrew Hopkins; sister, Essie Lou Wilkins, Winder. Bom in Madison County, he was the son of Thelma Dale Glenn of Commerce and the late Joe E. Glenn. He was a warden with the Jackson County Correctional Institute, retiring after many years of service, and was a member of Oconee Baptist Church. Survivors in addition to his mother, include his wife, Nancy Mize Glenn, Jefferson; daughter and son-in-law, Melody and Tim Turner, Clarkston; son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Laura Glenn, Omaha, Neb; sister and brother-in-law, Linda and Buster Wright, Jefferson; grandchildren, Justin, Austin, Shelby, and Nolan Glenn; one great-grandchild, Lorilai Glenn. She was a lifelong resident of Waterbury, Conn., and was retired from the City of Waterbury, Conn., school system in food preparation. She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Flowery Branch, and former member of St. Lucy Catholic Church in Waterbury, Conn. Everybody who knew her knew her delicious baked goods, her deep faith and deep devotion to St. Joseph, loved ones stated. She was bom in Forsyth County and was the daughter of the late Johnny and Emma Williamson. She was a homemaker and member of Temple Baptist Church. Mrs. Edge was preceded in death by her hus band of 52 years, Guy Edge.
