Festival, tractor show set this weekend
The Braselton Antique and Holiday festival is set
for Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 27-28 in the Braselton
Park. Just a mile down the road, the Hoschton
Business Alliance will sponsor the Vintage Classic
Tractor Show at Hoschton Towne Center on Oct. 27.
The antique and holiday event will feature antique
dealers with vintage and antique items of all nature.
An added feature is workshops. Tim Cash, a Georgia
master florist, will offer holiday wreath making for
a fee.
Margaret Hobe’, a retired master jewelry maker,
will instruct how to make beaded earrings. All of the
supplies are included in the workshop fee.
Donna Bailey, artist, will teach the art of turning
a gourd into a holiday character. Her own whimsi
cal ideas include a Lreddy Kruger, a snowman and
a witch. All workshop participants must choose the
character ahead of time and the materials are included
in the sign-up fee.
Vendors, food and entertainment will be part of
the tractor show. Coldwell Banker will help children
carve pumpkins. Tractors will compete in a couple of
unique venues.
Both events are free admission and free parking.
Vintage Tractor Show ahead Saturday in Hoschton
Vintage Tractors will be on dis
play at Hoschton Towne Center on
Saturday, Oct. 27, from 10 a.m. to
5 p.m.
The event is a coordinated
effort by the North Georgia Two-
Cylinder Club and the Hoschton
Business Alliance.
Tree admission, free parking,
vendors and various activities for
kids will be available.
Pumpkins carved or colored by
children will be judged at noon,
with Coldwell Bankers RMR
sponsoring the event.
Visitors may bring their pet
dressed for Halloween for a pet
costume contest, at 4 p.m., spon
sored by Dixie Pet Supplies.
A tractor slow race will be held
at 11 a.m., a backing up contest
will be held at 1 p.m., the pedal
tractor race for kids will be held at
2 p.m. and the tractor egg race will
begin at 3 p.m. Kevin York will be
the DJ.
Tractor Club president, Dale
Wiley, of Wiley Earns in Jersey,
Ga., will display his 1957 John
Deere model 720. The model is
one of the larger models of that
era.
Another late 1920s model on
display will be a ford Kit Tractor.
During hard times, country folks
could not afford both a car and a
tractor. The ford Motor Company
offered a kit that would convert
either a Chevy or ford car into a
working tractor for the approxi
mate price of $90. The model
was recently purchased from the
original owner’s family at a trac
tor event in Indiana. The owner
knows of only one other model in
a museum in the mid-west.
A special tractor, painted in a
color to prevent neighbors from
borrowing her tractor, will be on
display. A farmall “B” Tractor
was recently restored in bright
pink.
The Tractor Club will perform
various competitive events dem
onstrating skills in operating older
model tractors, including a “slow
race,” an “egg balancing” event
and a “kiddy peddle” tractor race.
The public can help determine the
“People’s Choice” award, and the
owner will receive a trophy.
The event is sponsored by
Tractor Supply and Gene & Matt’s
Tractors.
