Obnoxious manner almost leads to arrest
Braselton police arrested a man
last week for making false state
ments in an official compliant
against a police officer.
Woody Cherenfant, 30, of
Charlotte, N.C., completed an
allegation of employee miscon
duct against a Braselton officer
who stopped him on Oct. 16.
Cherenfant said in the docu
ment that the officer violated his
civil rights and “talked to him
with no respect,” according to
Braselton police.
Cherenfant said his vehicle
was searched during the traffic
stop and was damaged during the
search. He also said there was no
reason to tow his vehicle.
Braselton police said in an inci
dent report that Cherenfant’s state
ments were false and a review of
videotape from the traffic stop
showed that the officer treated
him with respect “even though he
chose not to show any respect to
the officers.”
Braselton police said
Cherenfant’s vehicle was
impounded, but was never
searched. Cherenfant’s vehicle
had the incorrect license tag,
no insurance and expired regis
tration, according to Braselton
police. He was initially stopped
for a window tint violation.
When Cherenfant returned to
the Braselton Police Department,
an officer asked him if the state
ments in the document were true
and he said “Yes.” Cherenfant
was then charged possession of a
A “peeping tom” was report

according to police.
A Braselton officer said as he
arrived at the residence, he saw a
fraudulent document and taken to
the Jackson County Jail.
BRASELTON ARREST
The Braselton Police Department
made the following arrest last
week:
•Matthew Edward Davis, 52,
648 Epps Road, Gilbert, S.C.,
failure to dim headlights, giving
false identity information to a
law enforcement officer, driving
without a license on person and
open container of alcohol while
operating a vehicle.
BRASELTON INCIDENTS
The following incidents were
reported to the Braselton Police
Department last week:
•found property at Publix, where
a customer told a store employee
that her son found six $20 bills
laying in the store’s parking lot.
Braselton police took the money
during that incident on Oct. 15
into evidence. On Oct. 19, a man
said he found a black wallet in the
Publix parking lot. An incident
report didn’t detail the contents
of the wallet.
•damage to property at a Ga.
Hwy. 53 address, where a trac
tor-trailer truck struck a wall at
a residence located on the inter
section of Hwy. 53 and Hwy.
124. The truck struck the concrete
wall while making a turn, and
a tire blew out and a wheel was
damaged. Police said the truck
caused damage to the wall, but the
driver kept driving. The truck was
stopped two miles past the house,
where police gathered informa-
man running from the front door
area. The officer chased after the
man, but police couldn’t locate
him.
A K-9 from a state prison was
called to the scene, but was unable
tion about the vehicle and driver
for an incident report.
•insufficient funds on a credit
card at the Pilot Travel Center,
where an employee told police
that a driver came into the store
and gave his license and a gas
card to fill up his truck. The man
filled up with $261 in fuel. The
man was told to come back in
the store because his credit card
didn’t have enough funds. A store
manager said the driver spoke
very little English, and the store
contacted the driver’s truck com
pany to advise them to add more
money to the credit card.
•harassing telephone calls at the
Home Depot distribution center,
where an employee told police
that an ex-roommate kept leav
ing harassing phone calls on his
phone. The woman threatened to
continuing calling the man, even
if it meant going to jail, accord
ing to a police report. The man
told police he didn’t call her back
because she has a temporary pro
tective order against him.
•theft by taking at the Best
Western on Zion Church Road,
where a woman told police that
someone stole the tag of her rental
vehicle.
•possible break-in at a Loowit
Falls Court address, where police
said the garage door was partially
open and knocked off the track.
Police cleared the residence, but
found a golf cart from Chateau
Elan at the house. Chateau Elan
was notified of the golf cart.
to get a good track of the subject.
Braselton police said there was
no good description of the sus
pect from the victim or officer.
No arrests have been made in the
case.
A passenger’s obnoxious man
ner during a traffic stop almost
resulted in an arrest for disorderly
conduct, according to Hoschton
police.
A Hoschton police officer
stopped a van on Hwy. 53 last
week for a suspended registra
tion. A Jefferson woman was
driving the van.
During the traffic stop, how
ever, a police officer had the
van’s door shut on his hand. A
male passenger in the van began
laughing and making hand jest
ers at the officer, according to a
police report.
A second Hoschton officer at
the scene told the passenger to
behave himself or face an arrest
for disorderly conduct. Police
said the man walked away from
the scene without further inci
dent.
The female driver was cited
for an expired tag and suspended
registration. Police said the van
was impounded.

HOSCHTON INCIDENTS

reported the past two weeks to
the Hoschton Police Department:

Drive address, where a woman
told police that a juvenile came
onto her porch and stole cigarette
butts out of her ash tray. She also
said that in the past few days she
has lost a cigarette pack and a
lighter on her porch. A guardian
for the juvenile told police he
would take care of the problem.
•water restriction violation at
a Joshua Way address, where
police said a man was washing
his car in his backyard. The man
was given a warning and given
literature about water restrictions
and city ordinances, police said.
•burning grass and littering at
a White Street address, where
police said a woman was burn
ing leaves and debris in the street
right-of-way. Police confirmed
that the woman was issued a burn
permit by the Georgia Forestry

police report. A fire truck extin
guished the fire. The woman was
issued a warning for burning on
public property and for littering.

a motorcycle without a regular
motorcycle license. The motor
cycle was impounded.
•speeding violation on Hwy.
53, where an officer said a Texas
man got out of his truck before
the officer could approach the
man’s vehicle. The man told the
officer that he already had two
tickets and would lose his job.
When the officer gave the man
a citation for speeding, the man
became “extremely juvenile and
irrational,” police said. The offi
cer said he reduced the speed at
which the man was driving, but
still issued the citation. The offi
cer said when the man returned
to his vehicle after storming off
in a “childish manner,” he talked
on his cell phone for five minutes
before driving away.

Skywarn Storm Spotter class available
The Barrow County Community
Emergency Response Team (CERT)
and the Barrow Amateur Radio
Emergency Services Club will host
a National Weather Service Skywarn
Storm Spotter class on Tuesday, Oct.
30.
The class is open to public safety
personnel, CERT members, radio
amateurs and members of the gen
eral public.
"This is another way for citizens of
Barrow County to become prepared
for a disaster," said Jimmy Terrell,
director of the Barrow County
Emergency Management Agency.
“Every citizen that volunteers in this
or other disaster preparedness pro
grams helps to make this county bet
ter prepared to handle a disaster.”
The Skywarn spotter program
is a nationwide network of volun
teers that is trained by the National
Weather Service to report significant
weather.
Skywarn reports are relayed from
volunteers while they are on the
road, and at work or their home.
Volunteers will be trained on what
to watch for and how to report when
they spot a tornado or severe thun
derstorm. They will also be taught
that it is important not to jeopardize
their own safety while participating
in Skywarn.
When the weather conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms
or tornadoes are expected, a severe
thunderstorm or tornado watch is
issued. A severe thunderstorms or
tornado warning is issued when
severe weather has been reported
by a Skywarn spotter or indicated
by Doppler radar. Skywarn volun
teers become the National Weather
Service’s eyes and ears, helping to
provide better weather watch and
warning systems, according to a
statement.
As far as amateur radio opera
tors, the National Weather Service
offices have HAM equipment on
site. Skywarn nets ran by volunteer
amateur radio net controllers allow
for reports to be directly heard at
National Weather Service offices.
The class will be held at the Barrow
County Annex, in the board of com
missioners room on the third floor.
