The school’s 2006-2007 club had great success with the food drive and was selected for the club news in the magazine. MCHS yearbook staff awarded national honor BY KRISTI REED The National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) has awarded the Mill Creek High School yearbook staff their first nationally recognized award for the 2007 yearbook, the Accipiter. The Accipiter received a rating of “First Class with two Marks of Distinction” from the NSPA pub lication critique service. Publications are judged in several categories including photography, theme, writing and overall creativity. The Accipiter staff scored 3,650 out of 4,000 possible points. The yearbook received marks of distinction for concept and design. Kay Reynolds, Accipiter co-advisor, said the staff hopes to achieve an “All-American” rating during their next critique. “[The Accipiter] has improved every year,” Reynolds said. “We’re excited for our third year to already be awarded first class.” Junior Andie Tuggle is a returning staff member. Tuggle said the NSPA award motivates everyone involved with the yearbook. “It makes you feel good about all the work. The things that don’t come back in a positive way make you want to work harder next year,” Tuggle said. The Accipiter takes its name from the Latin word for red hawk. The staff is comprised of 46 students and has an annual budget of over $200,000.
