One Mill Creek possession, one
Mill Creek punt, and 44-seconds
later, Austin again tore up the field
from the Harrison 48 yard line to
score again, putting the Hoyas up
30-3.
But, the Hawks refused to give
up, and continued to dig for field
position through the fourth quarter.
With just under 20 seconds remain
ing, the hard work paid off as
Landis made a 13-yard pass to Ed
Russ for Mill Creek’s lone touch
down of the game, setting up the
final score of 30-10 at the buzzer.
A GOOD YEAR
Despite the loss, the Mill Creek
Hawks have nothing for which to
hang their about. The team record
ed their best season on record,
going 7-4 overall, and 6-2 in the
region. If there’s a downside,
41 seniors on this year’s roster,
including Baxter Smith and Chase
Beasley, who have seen their final
season as Hawks come to an end.
While several key players will be
returning next year, it still will
leave a large hole in the program
to be filled.

“It’ll defiantly be a challenge, but that’s why
we’re playing in this tournament,” Simmons said
after Monday’s win. “We want to have tough games
early.”
Simmons says momentum isn’t really an issue.
“Momentum can come and go, but these kids are
used to playing,” he said. “We play about 25 to 30
games in the year. The kids that are experienced
players know how to get themselves ready to play
each game.
“It’s not something that you can rely on momen
tum. You have to be ready to play, no matter how
you feel. They’re pretty good at that.”
The Lady Hawks will next face Peachtree Ridge
on Tuesday, as they’ll travel to Suwanee to face the
Lions in a 6 p.m.
