Jackson County dancers in ‘The Nutcracker’
When the curtain rises on Gainesville Ballet’s
34th annual performance of “The Nutcracker”
performance on Friday, Nov. 30, several young
dancers from the Jackson County area will be in
this year’s cast.
In parts ranging from graceful angels to holiday
skaters in fur-lined velveteen, these young dancers
will have a weekend to perform in the roles for
which they have prepared since mid summer.
The Gainesville Ballet — a regional com
pany comprised of professionals, select Brenau
University dance performance majors, and high
school students — offers an opportunity for danc
ers as young as seven to audition for supporting
cast roles in “The Nutcracker” each season.
Several of the youngest Jackson County dancers
were chosen from community-wide auditions to
appear in roles as “Littlest Angels” and include:
Abby Moore, Ansleigh Williams, Zoe Radford and
Annabelle White, making their debut appearance
with Gainesville Ballet.
Also, advanced students who have danced for
several years with Gainesville Ballet will make an
appearance in a variety of roles. First-year appren
tice company member Katelyn Offenhauer is cast
in “Sunday Skaters” and “Candy Canes.” First-
year junior company member Lianne Killip will
appear in “Clara’s Friends” and “Mother Ginger.”
The Gainesville Ballet provides performing
opportunities for students through varied levels
beginning with junior company at age 10, appren
tice level at age 12-13, up to company I level, for
which advanced students may audition around age
15-16. Those who audition and are accepted into
the varied company levels have opportunities to
perform in “The Nutcracker” each year, as well as
the annual spring show, which this season will be
“Snow White,” scheduled for March.
Gainesville Ballet’s 34th annual “The
Nutcracker” will be performed on Friday, Nov.
30, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 1, at 2 p.m. and
7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 2, at 2 p.m.
Tickets may be reserved by telephoning the
Gainesville Ballet Box Office at 770-532-4241.
Also, tickets may be purchased in 90 minutes
prior to performances at the theatre, Peace
Auditorium on the campus of Brenau University
in Gainesville.
