Elinor Johnson Boyd, 89, of Winder,
formerly of Savannah, died Saturday,
December 1, 2007.
A native of Jackson County, she was
the daughter of the late Henry and Resha
Elder Johnson. She and her late husband,
Ed Boyd Jr., owned and operated Boyd’s
Drug Store in Savannah. She was a mem
ber of the Winder First United Methodist
Church.
Survivors include a daughter and son-
in-law, Ann B. and Jim Pilgrim, Winder;
sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas M. and
Pant “Heidi" Boyd, Lawrenceville, and
William G. and Sheila Boyd, Lafayette;
grandchildren. Garth Etheridge, Winder,
Holt Etheridge and Kristen Etheridge,
both of Athens, and Thomas Boyd,
Atlanta; and sisters-in-law, Janette M.
Johnson, Jefferson, and Mary B. Cobb,
Athens.

Winder
Ruth Elian Farley, 84, of Winder, died
Friday, December 14, 2007.
She was the daughter of the late Elvis
and Ester White Van Gundy, and had
lived in Winder for the past seven years.
She was a member of Pleasant Hill
Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Farley was
preceded in death by her husband. Gene
Edward Farley; a sister, Helen Avignone;
and brother, Wayne Van Gundy.
Survivors include daughters and
sons-in-law, Judith and Robert Griffin,
Chualar, Calif., Barbara and Donald
Fulmer, Winder; brother and sister-in-
law, Walter and Betty and Gundy, Silver
Spring, Nev.; grandchildren, Christine

Winder
Melba W. Wilkerson, 77, of Winder,
died Friday, December 14, 2007.
A native of Oconee County, she was
the daughter of the late Waynian and
Hester Tony Ward. She was a homemaker
and a member of Hebron Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband. Jack
K. Wilkerson, Winder; daughter, Jackie
Asamoto, Marietta; granddaughter,
Landria Voigt; and great-granddaughter,
Alice Voigt.

‘Gene’ Biddy
Winder
Roy Eugene "Gene" Biddy, 75, of
Winder, died Saturday, December 15,
2007.
Born in Cherokee County, he was the
son of the late Guy and
Mae Biddy. He had
served as an Auburn City
Councilman and was a
member of Carl Baptist
Church, where he had served as a deacon.
He owned Biddy Hauling Company, and
was a veteran, having served in the United
States Army during the Korean conflict.
Mr. Biddy was preceded in death by a
granddaughter, Dedra Ann Bramlett; and
siblings, John Biddy, Paul Biddy, Rufus
Biddy and Jewell Pankey.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma
Bentley Biddy; daughters and sons-
in-law, Belinda Kennedy, Elaine and
Barry Fuller, all of Winder, Andrea
and Tony Boswell, Greenwood, S.C.;
brother, James Biddy, Roswell; sisters,
Berta Burgess, Texas, Dot Brumbelow,
Duluth, and Betty Hanners, Hartwell;

Winder
Benson Bryant, 89, of Winder, died
Wednesday, December 12, 2007.
Bom in Franklin County, he was the
son of the late Dave and
Cynthia Crider Bryant.
He was a member of
Chapel Christian Church,
was retired from General
Motors after 30 years of service, and was
a veteran, having served in the United
States Army. Mr. Bryant was preceded
in death by his wife, Thelma Louise
Bryant.
Survivors include a son, Roger Bryant,
Sharpesburg; daughters, Pam Manville,
Monticello, Robbie O’Rourke, Marietta,
Donna O’Brian, Woodstock, and Melony
Wilkins, Winder; six grandchildren;
two great-grandchildren; and a brother,
Freddie Bryant, Winder.
Funeral services were held Saturday,
December 15, in Chapel Christian Church
with the Rev. Jim Stephens officiating.

Winder
Christine Powell Stewart, 80, of Winder,
died Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at a
private healthcare facility in Social Circle,
following an extended illness.
She was born in Habersham County on
January 8, 1927, the daughter of the late
Henry and Ella Crawford Powell. She was
a homemaker and the last surviving mem
ber of her immediate family. She was a
member of Leatherwood Baptist Church.
Mrs. Stewart was preceded in death by
her husband, James Stewart; sons, Glen
and Ray Stewart; sons-in-law, Ray Brock
and Don Boisclair; brother, Floyd Powell;
and a sister, Joyce Powell.
Survivors include daughters and sons-
in-law, Diane and Joe Johnson, Winder,
June and J.L. Garrett, Monroe, Frances
and Jimmy Moon, Statham, Wanda and
Robert Stowe, Bethlehem, Betty and
Doug Amick, Carolyn Brock and Linda

Bertie Canup Bell, 83, of Winder, died
Tuesday, December 11, 2007.
She was a native of Jackson County
and the daughter of the late Henry Lee
Sr. and Lula Walden Canup. She was a
homemaker and a member of Winder
First Baptist Church. Mrs. Bell was pre
ceded in death by her first husband,
John Robert Etheridge; second husband,
Etsel F. Bell; a daughter, Janice Cavin;
and brothers, Henry Canup Jr., Woodrow

Howeth, Ray City; step-daughters, Sheryl

Lucille Pierce Hayes, 98, of Hoschton,
died Saturday, December 15, 2007.
Bom in Gwinnett County, she was
the daughter of the late Early J. and
Pearl Knight Pierce.
She was a resident of
Hoschton for 50 years,
and a member of the
Hoschton Baptist
Church, where she
was an active member
until she became dis
abled. Mrs. Hayes was
preceded in death by
her husband, Curtis G. Hayes.
Survivors include sons, Charles Hayes,
Hoschton, and Pierce Hayes, Cartersville;
daughters, Vera Wall and Ann Hill, both
of Hoschton; nine grandchildren; 13
great-grandchildren; two great-great-
grandchildren; sisters, Geneva Hayes,

and a number of nieces and nephews.

Connor Devine, 24, of Winder, died
Sunday, December 16, 2007.
Bom in Steven County, Minn., he was
the son of Owen and Kathleen Devine of
Winder. He was employed by Johnny’s
Pizza.

include a daughter, Alayna Grace Prescott,
Auburn; brother, Brendan Devine, Winder;
and a sister, Molly Devine, Winder.

December 20, at 7 p.m., at Smith Memory

William O. Cole, 78, of Bethlehem,

A native of Barrow County, he was the

Cole and was retired front the Clarke
County Road Department.

Buford
Noah Patrick Cason, 18, of Buford,
died Wednesday, December 12, 2007.
He was born on October 26, 1989, in
Fulton County, and was the son of Patrick
Cason of Gainesville, and Joan Duncan
Cason of Buford. He was a student at Mill
Creek High School, where he was a mem
ber of the poetry club, and a member of
the Sugar Hill United Methodist Church
in Sugar Hill.
Survivors in addition to his parents,

and aunt, Hugh Duncan, Buford, and
Joseph and Ann Cason, Marietta; first

Ronald “Ronnie" A. Henson, 59, of
Gainesville, died Sunday, December 9,
2007, at the Northeast Georgia Medical
Center in Gainesville.
A lifelong resident of Hall County, he
was the son of the late P.D. and Fannie
Arthur Henson. He was a member of the
New Holland Baptist Church. Mr. Henson
was preceded in death by brothers, Billy
Henson and Leon Henson.
Survivors include a daughter and son-
in-law, Faith and Bret Radosta, Hoschton;
sons, Christopher and Kevin Henson,
both of Gainesville; sisters and brother-

She was a wonderful wife, mother,

veteran, having served
in the United States
Army Air Corps dur

Laverne Crocker, 73, of Cornelia, died
Sunday, December 16, 2007, at Northeast
Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville,
following a sudden illness.
Born in Habersham County on May
1, 1934, she was the daughter of the late
William Tyson Sr. and Artha Simmons
Crocker. She was employed as a cashier
at Habersham Hardware and also worked
for a number of years at Cassels United 5
& 10. She was a member of B.C. Grant
Baptist Church and attended Alto Baptist
Church, where she served as a pianist or
organist. She was also a member of the
Eastern Star. Mrs. Crocker was preceded
in death by a brother, Grady F. Crocker;
sister-in-law, Beatrice Crocker; and broth-
er-in-law, Ernest Snyder.
Survivors include a sister, Mattie Lee
Snyder, Cornelia; brother, M.J. Crocker,
Cornelia; brothers and sisters-in-law,
Tyson and Edna Crocker, Cornelia, Otis
and Patsy Crocker, Greenville, S.C.,

Sallie Salisbury, 63, of Dahlonega,
died Monday, December 10, 2007, at

Born in Walton County on June 1,
1944, she was the daughter of the late
Robert E. Lee and Sallie Ruth Dorsey
Peppers. She was a retired textile worker
and was Baptist. Mrs. Salisbury was pre
ceded in death by her husband, Thomas
Salisbury.

in-law, Lee and Jody Grindle, Jason and
Mary Grindle, all of Ellijay; daughters and
sons-in-law, Janice and Ronald Pressley,

Betty Eubanks Hill, 78, of Mt. Airy,
died Thursday, December 13, 2007, at
Habersham County Medical Center, fol
lowing a sudden illness.
Born in Fulton County on August 22,
1929, she was the daughter of the late
James E. and Elizabeth Saxon Eubanks.
She was a member of Hazel Creek Baptist
Church, where she was active in the
Willing Workers Sunday school class and
Happy Timers. She enjoyed spending her
time gardening and reading her Bible,
according to loved ones. Mrs. Hill was
preceded in death by a brother, Clifford
Eubanks.
Survivors include her husband, Jim
Hill, Mt. Airy; daughters, Mary Dixon,

Long, Alabama; nine grandchildren; and
six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday,
December 16, at Hazel Creek Baptist
Church with the Rev. Trent Smith officiat
ing. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Grady Knight
Lavonia
Grady Lee Knight, 69, of Lavonia, died
Friday, December 14, 2007.
He was the son of Nellie Criswell
Dempsey of Bethlehem
and the late Grady
Melvin Knight. He was a
residential carpenter and
was Baptist. Mr. Knight
was a veteran, having served in the United
States Air Force.
Survivors in addition to his mother,
include his wife, Louise S. Knight,
Lavonia; children and spouses, Ronny
and Diane Knight, Commerce, Connie
and Terrence Beers, Lawrenceville,
Judy and Mark Adams, Toccoa, Becky
and Sandy Smith, Arcade, Melvin and
Deborah Knight, Statham, John and Fiona
Knight, Green Cove Springs, Fla., Sharon
Jackson, Hoschton; sisters and broth-
ers-in-law, Helen and James Robertson,
Bethlehem, Shirley and Lowell Lance,
Lawrenceville; 20 grandchildren; nine
great-grandchildren; and several nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday,
December 17, in the Lawrenceville
Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home
with the Revs. William Whitfield and Ray
Bruce officiating. Burial was in Carter
Memorial Gardens in Loganville.
