Infant Mary Grace Chester of
Winder died Monday, December
17, 2007.
Born in Fulton County, she
was the daughter of Nakia
Chester and Amanda Susan
Reynolds of Winder.
Survivors in addition to her
parents, include grandpar
ents, Kim and Don Reynolds
and Frances Ruewueler, all of
Winder; great-grandparents,
James and Frances Reynolds,
Winder, and Shirley Crawford,
Villa Rica; aunts and uncles,
James Dooley, Devin Chester,
Chantil Ruewueler and Adam
Reynolds.
Graveside services were held
Thursday, December 20, at
Hoschton Cemetery

June Damiano
Winder
June Damiano, 63, of Winder,
died Monday, December 17,
2007.
A native of Wareham, Mass.,
she was the daughter of the
late Jennie Andrews Andrade.
She was a retired secretary with
Dartmouth College and was affil
iated with Ingles of Winder. She
was a member of St. Matthews
Catholic Church. Mrs. Damiano
was preceded in death by broth
ers, Chris Andrade and Thomas
Andrade.
Survivors include her hus
band, Tom Damiano, Winder;
son, John Damiano Sr., Atlanta;
grandchildren, JohnDamiano Jr.,
Anthony Damiano and Brittany
Damiano; sister, Theresa
Andrade; brothers, Arnold,
Walter and Paul Andrade, all of
Mass.; and many nieces, neph
ews, great-nieces and great-
nephews.
Memorial services will be
held at a later date.

Mary Beckum
Winder
Mary Lucy Beckum, 93,
of Winder, died Wednesday,
December 19, 2007.
Born in Barrow County, she
was the daughter of the late
Richard Lee and Lizzie Giles
O’Kelley. She was a member
of the Winder First United
Methodist Church and was a
hairdresser, having worked at
Ann’s Beauty Shop. She loved
the Sunshine Center and was
devoted to her family, loved
ones added. Mrs. Beckum was
preceded in death by her hus
band, John Nolam Beckum.
Survivors include a daugh
ters and son-in-law, Janice
and Bill Blessing, Gainesville,
and Diane Jost, Winder; grand
children, Terri Shannon, Tim
Shannon, Rene Shannon and
Larissa Thames; five great
grandchildren; sister-in-law,
Miriam O’Kelly.
Funeral services were held
Saturday, December 22, in
the chapel of the Winder First
United Methodist Church with
the Rev. Larry Rary officiat
ing. Burial was in Rose Hill
Cemetery.

Samuel Mashburn
Clarkesville
Samuel Moses Mashburn, 80,
of Clarkesville, died Sunday,
December 16, 2007, at his resi
dence, following an extended
illness.
He was born on May 28,
1927, in Macon County, N.C.,
the son of the late Frank Edward
and Ina Fay Moses Mashburn.
He was retired from the United
States Navy, having served 20
years, during that time in World
War II, the Korean Conflict,
Bay of Pigs, and 28 other battles
and/or conflicts. He had served
as Shore Patrol and recruiting
officer. Following retirement, he
served 20 years as a guard at
the Lee Arrendale Correctional
Institute. Mr. Mashburn was
preceded in death by brothers,
Edward Ray Mashburn and
James Alonzo Mashburn; and
a sister, Lucy Sue Blackwell.
He was loved and respected by
many and will be sorely missed
by relatives, friends, and ship
mates, loved ones added.
Survivors include his wife,
Nina Mashburn, Clarkesville;
daughters, Pat Mashburn,
Clarkesville, Kit Lewis, Athens,
Sandra Kimbrell, Braselton,
Teresa York, Cornelia; sister,
Annalee Greer, Franklin, N.C.;

Mary Simmons
Gainesville
Mary Lessie Brock Simmons,
93, of Gainesville, died
Thursday, December 20, 2007,
at Willow Wood Nursing Home,
following an extended illness.
She was bom in Banks County,
the daughter of the late John and
Fannie Higgins Brock. She was
a homemaker and member of
Mountain View Baptist Church.
Mrs. Simmons was preceded in
death by her husband, Verse C.
Simmons; a son, Jack Simmons;
and grandsons, Johnny Simmons
and Tim Carroll.
Survivors include daughters
and sons-in-law, Jewell and
Hershel Holtzclaw and Lurlene
and Ernest Bryant, all of
Gainesville, Josephine Carroll,
Murrayville; sons and daugh
ter s-in-law, Ralph and Yvonne
Simmons, Buford, Bobby and
Patti Simmons, Jefferson, and
Ray and Wanda Simmons,
Gainesville: 20 grandchil
dren; 25 great-grandchildren;
and 15 great-great grandchil

the chapel of Memorial Park

James Simmons
Warner Robins
James M. Simmons, 80, of
Warner Robins, died Monday,
December 17, 2007.
He was bom on March 28,
1927, in Sampson, Ala., and
was a member of the Bible
Baptist Temple. He was a
retired accountant with Robins
Air Force Base and was a veter
an, having served in the United
States Army and retiring from
the United States Navy. Mr.
Simmons was preceded in death
by his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Simmons.
Survivors include his wife,
Betty Simmons, Warner Robins;
daughters and sons-in-law, Jackie
and Michael Alicea, Augusta,
and Jean and Mitch Mullis,
Jefferson; a son and daughter-
in-law, Jimmie Simmons Jr. and
Sharon Simmons, Alabama;
grandchildren, Kendra Baxley,
Laura and Scott Wilkerson,
Matthew, Michael, and Mary
Mullis, Callie Hollaway, and
Luke and Layla Simmons; great
grandchildren, Taylor Baxley;
and many beloved nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services were held
Friday, December 21, at Bible
Baptist Temple. Burial was in
Magnolia Park Mausoleum.

Maysville
Peggy Nell Elrod, 71, of
Maysville, died Wednesday,
December 19, 2007.
She was born on August 2,
1936, the daugh
ter of the late
Bud and Dessie
Cannon Watson.
She was a home
maker. Mrs. Elrod
was preceded in
death by her hus
band, Robert “Herbie” Elrod;
and a daughter, Kristi Elrod.
Survivors include daughters,
Patsy Bracy, Alpharetta, Lynn
Kelp, Maysville, and Ginger
Bradford, Homer; step-son,
Larry Elrod, Stone Mountain;
sisters, Dean Beatty and Betty
Boyd, both of Pendergrass; and
four grandchildren, Will and
Alex Bracy, Anne Langston and
Lindsey Bradford.

Saturday, December 22, at
Mountain Creek Baptist Church
with the Revs. Jeff Graham and
Larry Elrod officiating.

Clara Nell (Garnett) Smith,

Baldwin
Susie Ann Kitchens Murray,
61, of Baldwin, died Wednesday,
December 19, 2007, at her resi
dence, following an extended
illness.
Born in Jackson County on
September 16, 1946, she was
the daughter of Winnie Crump
Kitchens of Baldwin and the
late Fletcher Kitchens. She was
employed with Ethicon as a
shipping clerk with 38 years
of dedicated service and was a
member of Alto Congregational
Holiness Church. Mrs. Murray
was preceded in death by a
daughter, Beverly Murray; son,
Ansel Murray; and brothers,
Billy, Roger and Paul Kitchens.
Survivors in addition to her
mother, include her husband,
Avery Murray Jr., Baldwin; sons
and daughters-in-law, Mike and
Tammy Murray, Cornelia, and
Jeff and Lynn Murray, Baldwin;
sister and brother-in-law, Polly
and Theron Ayers, Baldwin; six
grandchildren; and three great
grandchildren.

Friday, December 21, at Alto
Congregational Holiness Church
with the Revs. Johnny Barrett
and Tim Beasley officiating.
Burial was in Yonah Memorial
Gardens with the Rev. Sanford

Charlotte Mathis Edgar,
74, of Winder, died Monday,
December 24, 2007.
Born in Oconee County, she
was the daughter of the late
Benjamin O. Mathis and May
Bell Tarpley Mathis. Mrs. Edgar
was preceded in death by her
husband, Wink Edgar; siblings,
Jr. Mathis, Jerdine Mathis,
Joyce Sellers, Helen Cash and
Mildred Dunn.
Survivors include a daughter,
Brenda Crumley, Winder; grand
child, Shane Whelchel; great
grandchild, Alex Whelchel; and
a sister, Peggy Casper, Winder.

at 2 p.m., at Barrow Memorial
Gardens with the Rev. Donnie

Winder
Kenneth “Sam” Lee, 67, of
Winder, died Sunday, December
23, 2007.
Born in Jackson County, he
was the son of Hugh M. Peppers
of Bishop and the late Omie Lee
Peppers. He attended Pleasant
Hill Presbyterian Church. Mr.
Lee was preceded in death by a
daughter-in-law, Lannie House;
and sister, Shirley Wells.
Survivors include his wife,
Mary Ann McCarty Lee; sons
and daughters-in-law, Phil and
Dee House, Commerce, Perry
House, Winder, and Kenneth
“Kenny” and Brandie Lee,
Monroe; five grandchildren;
four great-grandchildren; and
a cousin that was just like a
brother, Don Brown.

Thursday, December 27, at 11
a.m., at Smith Memory Chapel
with the Rev. Dave Fahner offi
ciating. Burial will be in Barrow
Memorial Gardens.
