Public Safety
Man charged with disorderly conduct after dispute
Braselton police charged one
man with disorderly conduct,
after a dispute at a gas station.
Police were called to the Pilot
Travel Center on Ga. Hwy. 53 to
the report that a man had broken
a window of a vehicle.
A man flagged down an officer
and said the vehicle had just left
the store. The officer asked 911 to
call back to the female complain
ant, who said she would return
to the store, but a man involved
in the incident was still there.
Police said the man matched
the description of the man who
flagged down the officer.
The man denied being involved
in the incident, but later changed
his story.
Police said the man — later
identified as Anthony Joseph
Morales, 28, of Gainesville —
had a strong odor of alcohol.
Morales said the female had also
been drinking.
A store manager told police
that he saw the man and woman
arguing in the parking lot. The
manager said he then saw the
man throw a beer bottle toward
the vehicle and it hit the gas
pumps. The man then picked up
the bottle again and threw it
toward the vehicle, as it was
driving away, the manager told
police.
Morales was taken to the
Gwinnett County Jail for public
drunkenness.

reported that she either misplaced
her wallet in the store or it was

Teenager charged with stealing manhole covers in subdivision
Hoschton police arrested a teen
ager for allegedly stealing man
hole covers from a local subdivi
sion.
Police charged Anthony Joseph
Smith, 18, of Braselton, with theft
by taking.
Hoschton police said Smith was
suspected of stealing fuel from
a local gas station. While being
questioned for that incident, an
officer said he noticed three man
hole covers in the rear of Smith’s
truck.
The officer said there had been
several incidents in Hoschton and
surrounding areas of manhole
covers being stolen.
Smith told a Jackson County
deputy, who was assisting in the
investigation, that he stole the
manholes from a subdivision in
Forsyth County. Smith later told
another deputy he stole them from
a subdivision in Hoschton off
Maddox Road, according to an
incident report.
Smith said he planned to sell
the manhole covers to a local
junkyard, police said.
Smith provided police with
some information about other
youth who may be involved in the
thefts of manhole covers, police
said.
The developer of the subdivi
sion in Hoschton told police he
wanted Smith to be prosecuted.
The developer said the manhole
covers cost $1,250 each.
Smith was taken to the Jackson
County Jail.
