Nellie Fortner
Braselton
Nellie Ruth Munn Fortner, 65, of
Braselton, died Monday, January 14,
2008.
She was born in Florence County, S.C.,
and lived in the metro Atlanta area the
past 48 years. She was a loving wife,
mother and grandmother, a homemaker,
and was Baptist, according to loved ones.
Survivors include her husband, Eugene
Fortner, Jefferson; daughters and sons-
in-law, Christine and Terry McDaniel,
Braselton, Shirley and Mike Palmer,
Maysville; sons, Edward Fortner and
Johnny Fortner, both of Jefferson; 15
grandchildren, Tammy and Jason Parr,
Crystal Palmer, Christinia McDaniel, all
of Danielsville, Genia and Bradley Green,
Christopher Fortner, Kayla Fortner, all of
Gainesville, Jason and Tiffany McDaniel,
Anthony Fortner, Wiley Fortner, all of
Braselton, Kristina Fortner, Kattie Palmer,
both of Maysville, and Jonathan Fortner,
Winder; six great-grandchildren, Chelsea
and Savannah Green, Danielsville, Owen
and Payten Green, Gainesville, Chandler
and Clarissa McDaniel, Braselton; a sister
and brother-in-law, Carol and Bob Riley,
Killeen, Texas; brothers and sister-in-law,
John and Carol Munn, Hampton, Va.,
Clinton Munn, Commerce; and 11 nieces
and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday,
January 18, at White Plains Baptist
Church in Jefferson with the Revs. Benji
Boone and Wayne Knight officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.

George Titus
Pendergrass
George Wayne Titus, 88, of Pendergrass,
died Tuesday, January 15, 2008, at the VA
Medical Center in Atlanta, following an
extended illness.
Bom in Yakima, Wash., he was the
son of the late Marcus Monteith and
Elizabeth Underwood
Titus. He was a sig
nalman for Southern
Railroad. He was a vet
eran, having served in
the United States Army during World
War II and was a POW. Mr. Titus was
preceded in death by a daughter, Melba
Titus Hollingsworth; and his first wife,
Frances Hitchcock Titus.
Survivors include his wife, Geraldine
Durham Titus, Pendergrass; daughters and
sons-in-law, Sarah and Leigh Fragnoli,
Canton, and Barbara and Jimmy Spinks,
Loganville; godchildren, Dana Porter,
Mableton, and Darren Porter, Tallapoosa;
grandchildren, Keith, Kirk and Kevin
Hollingsworth, Kim Andrews, Ryan and
Matthew Dailey, Laura Staffins, James
Spinks and Jeremy Spinks; and six great
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday,
January 20, in the chapel of Memorial
Park Funeral Home with the Rev. Clifford
Allen officiating. Burial was in Memorial
Park Cemetery.

‘Jink’ Wallace
Bethelhem
G.W. “Jink” Wallace, 79, of Bethlehem,
died Tuesday, January 15, 2008. A native
of Jackson County, he had lived in Barrow
County since 1934, and was the son of the
late Lee and Arlene Garrett Wallace. He
was a retired building contractor and was
a member of the Bethlehem First United
Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Miriam
Lyle Wallace; children and spouses,
Linda and H.N. Pannell, Jr., Charleston,
S.C., Barbara and Clifton Shedd, Tim
and Kathy Wallace, all of Winder; sisters
and brother-in-law, Willie Sue Wilson,
Bethlehem, Betty Sims, Winder, Essie
Lou McCullers, and Reba and Billy Boyd,
all of Monroe; brothers and sisters-in-law,
Henry and Dot Wallace, Bethlehem, and
Otis and Clara Wallace of Winder; six
grandchildren; and two great-grandchil
dren.
Funeral services were held Friday,
January 18, at the Bethlehem First United
Methodist Church with the Revs. Parker
Benson and Mike Peavy officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.

‘Ernie’ Nash
Bethlehem
Robert “Ernie” Nash, 61, of Bethlehem,
died Tuesday, January 15, 2008.
A native of Fulton County, he was the
son of the late Henry Willard and Annie
Rumel Noggle Nash. He was Baptist and
was a retired residential carpenter. Mr.
Nash was a veteran, having served in the
United States Army.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Nash,
Bethlehem; daughter and son-in-law,
Taniela and Kevin Rock, Huntersville,
N.C.; son, Douglas Lopez, Lula; sis
ter, Ann Nash, Winder;
brothers, Emory Nash

‘Buttermilk’ Wilkins
Buford
Larry J. “Buttermilk" Wilkins, 61, of
Buford, died Tuesday, January 8, 2008, in
an automobile accident.
Born on June 24, 1946, in Gwinnett
County, he was a 1965
graduate of North
Gwinnett High School in 1888881 ■
Suwanee, the son of the
late Addie Lou Wilkins.
He was retired from
Eastman Kodak in Lawrenceville after
30 years of service. He was a member
of the Buford American Legion Post No.
127, member of Water Aerobics at Bogan
Park and Collins Hill Park, past member
of Rockwell Masonic Lodge, an active
member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church
in Hoschton, and an active member of
Duncan Creek Congregational Church
Bible Study on Wednesday evenings.
He loved the mountains and his dog,
"Precious," according to loved ones.
Mr. Wilkins was a veteran, having
served in the United States Army and
received three Purple Heart awards.
Survivors include his companion of
19 years, Debbie McDaniel, Buford; first
cousins, Michael and Sue Wilkins, Vicky
and Kenneth Jenkins, Brenda Reed, all
of Buford, David Wilkins and Willie Joe
Wilkins Jr., both of Hoschton, Betty and
the Rev. L.C. Bennett, Cumming; several
cousins and other relatives; and extend
ed family, fellow members of Buford
American Legion Post No. 127.
Funeral services were held Saturday,
January 12, in the chapel of Flanigan
Funeral Home with the Revs. Sammy
Everett and James Dee Dillin officiat
ing. Graveside services were held at Mt.
Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery with
the Rev. Gerald Hudlow officiating and
with military honors.

Paul Hosch
Buford
Paul Hosch Jr., 89, of Buford, died
Saturday, January 19, 2008.
Born on January 6,1919, he was a native
of Jackson County, and graduated from
high school in Albany.
He was a member of
the Buford American
Legion Post No. 127,
was a member of the
Buford Senior Citizens and Waynesboro
Senior Citizens, and was a member of the
New Liberty United Methodist Church
in Braselton. Mr. Hosch was preceded
in death by his wife, Carolyn Mauldin
Hosch; and a son, Jonathan T. Hosch.
Survivors include a son and daugh-
ter-in-law, Hugh and Missie Hosch,
Buford; grandchildren, Melanie and
Scott Hodgsins, Gainesville, Cody
Hosch, Jami Hosch, both of Buford;
great-grandchildren, Madeline Hodgkins,
Wyatt Hodgkins, Nicholas Hodgkins;
brother, W.C. Hosch, Braselton; sisters-
in-law, Lydia Mauldin Hillis, Buford,
Dorothy Mauldin Mellen, Hapeville,
Sybil Mauldin Negley, Tyler, Texas, and

January 22, at the New Liberty United
Methodist Church with the Revs. Matthew

R. Darwin Frankum
Gillsville
R. Darwin Frankum, Jr., 69, of
Gillsville, died Thursday, January 17, at
Emory University Hospital, following a
sudden illness.
He was bom on December 10, 1938,
in Hall County, the son of the late Reo
Darwin Frankum Sr. and Margaret House
Frankum. He was a graduate of the
University of Georgia, had worked for
Macklanburg Duncan Co. for 30 years,
and was a vice president for Loxcreen
Company. He was a member of Kiwanis
Club, Chattahoochee Country Club,
Friends of Gillsville, and the Blackshear
Place Baptist Church, where he served
on the welcome team, and a member
of the Homer Myers Bible Fellowship
Class. He was an avid golfer and loved
the University of Georgia football. He had
a great love for his family, especially his
grandchildren, loved ones stated.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie R.
Frankum, Gillsville; son and daugh-
ter-in-law, Greg and Sherri Frankum,
Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law,
Anita Frankum and Shanon Brown,
Douglasville; step-daughters and spouses,
Lisa and Chad Hayes, Flowery Branch,
and Emily and Joe Hicks, Dacula; sisters
and brother-in-law, Judy Franklin, Mt.
Airy, Gayle and Henry Reed, Flowery
Branch; grandchildren, Ryan Brown,

Philip Petty
Braselton
Philip L. Petty, 77, of Braselton, died
Monday, January 21, 2008.
He was born in Union City, Ind., and
had lived in the metro Atlanta area for
the past 52 years. He
was self-employed in the
security alarm business,
a member of the Barber
Shop Harmony Society,
member of the Shrine Temple Atlanta,
member of the Masonic Lodge #42
F&AM Tucker, and member of Living
Shepherd Church in Auburn. Mr. Petty
was a veteran, having served in the United
States Navy and Marine Corp, where he
served in the Korean Conflict.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years.
Hazel L. Petty. Braselton; daughters and
sons-in-law, Becky and David Evans,
Erie, Colo., Jennifer and Matt Dorough,
Braselton, Gretchen and Javier Vivanco,

Winder
Rubye Austin Harbin, 79, of Winder,
died Saturday, January 19, 2008.
A native and lifelong resident of Barrow
County, she was the daughter of the late
Emanuel and Bernice Cheeley Austin.
She was a member of the Bethlehem
First Baptist Church and was a retiree
of Empire Manufacturing Company of
Winder. Mrs. Harbin was preceded in
death by her husband, Henry D. Harbin;
a sister, Johnnie Wall; and brother, Willie
T. Austin.

in-law, Veta Brown and Bob Weatherford,
Winder, Melanie House and Jim Bays,

Lula
Rachel Louise Boyd Fabor, 73, of Lula,
died Thursday, January 17, 2008, at her
residence, following an extended illness.
She was born in Hall County, the
daughter of the late Marion and Euna
Armstead Boyd. She was a member of the
Lula First Baptist Church and was retired
from AT&T. Mrs. Fabor was preceded in
death by her husband, Albert Dean Fabor;
her first husband, Alger J. Scales; and a
brother, Royce Boyd.
Survivors include a son, Howard Scales,
Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law,
Linda and Curtis Aikens, Gainesville; sis
ter, Marie Ferguson, Cleveland; brothers
and sisters-in-law, Johnny and Marvine
Boyd, Gillsville, Hoyt and Jean Boyd,

Clara Mae Wright
Alto
Clara Mae McClure Wright, 91, of
Alto, died Thursday, January 17, 2008, at
a private healthcare facility, following an
extended illness.
She was born in Banks County on
November 7, 1916, the daughter of the
late Archie "Todd” and Hattie Martin
McClure. She was a homemaker, a mem
ber of Enon Baptist Church, and was
employed for several years at Carwood
Manufacturing as a machine operator.
She and her husband co-owned Wright’s
Peach Orchard for well over 30 years.
Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her
husband of 70 years, the Rev. Lawrence
B. Wright; and a sister, Christine Caudell.
She enjoyed embroidering, according to
loved ones.
Survivors include daughters and sons-
in-law, Grace and T.J. Kemp, Gainesville,
and Brooksy and Doyle White, Lula;
sisters and brother-in-law, Eunice Berry,
Clarkesville, Hazel and Frank Nicholson,
Westland, Mich.; brother-in-law, Harold

Hoschton
Joyce Dean Ross, 77, of Hoschton,
died Thursday, January 17, 2008. Born
in Elbert, W. Va., she was the daughter of
the late Samuel Isaih and Sadie Lambert
Dean. She was a retired office assis
tant with the Cigna Insurance Company,
and was a member of the Gary United
Methodist Church in Gary, W. Va. Mrs.
Ross was preceded in death by her hus
band after 54 years of marriage, Warren
Ross; sisters, Eileene Dean, Caudill,
Kathleen Dean Collins; and brothers,
Boyd Douglas Dean and Harold Dean.
Survivors include daughters and son-
in-law, Deborah Dove Ross, Tucker, and
Donna Ross and Wayne Archie, Matthews,
N.C.; brother, Loyd Dennis Dean,
Florien, La.; grandchildren, Geoffrey

Everett Bacon
Winder
Everett L. Bacon, 83, of Winder, died
Sunday, January 20, 2008.
Born in Fulton County, he was the
son of the late Elijah Duncan and Essie
Holman Bacon. He had worked at Mitchell
Motors from 1947-1961, Jim Letts Olds
from 1961-1973, and in
1973 he started Bacon
Hauling. Mr. Bacon
was a veteran, having
served in the United
States Army Infantry during World War
II, serving combat in Germany, Italy and
France. He was a member of Sweetwater
Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include a son, Larry Bacon,
Loganville; daughters, Laura Bacon,
Loganville, Holly Posey, Hogansville,
Starla Jones, Ellijay; four grandchil
dren; two great-grandchildren; brother,
Ray Bacon, Auburn; and sisters, Jo
McDonald, Norcross, and Judy Jackson,
Lawrenceville.

Pendergrass
Billy Harold Pennington, 69, of
Pendergrass, died Tuesday, January 15,
2008, at his residence, following a sud
den illness.
He was born in Lumpkin County,
the son of the late Claude and Nannie
Fields Pennington. He was a member of
Talmo Baptist Church and was retired
from CSX Railroad. Mr. Pennington
was preceded in death by brothers, J.B.
Pennington, Jessie Lee Pennington, A.C.
“Pete” Pennington, Thomas Pennington
and W.D. Pennington.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years,
Mary Fitzgerald Pennington, Pendergrass;
daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Scott
Tipton, Clarkesville, Paige and Mike
Pruitt, Pendergrass; grandchildren. Grant
Tipton, Luke Pruitt and Molly Tipton; and
a host of other family and friends.

Baldwin
Rupert Andrew Jenkins Jr., 94, of
Baldwin, died Friday, January 18, 2008,
at Lanier Park Campus, following an
extended illness.
He was bom in Habersham County
on February 24, 1913, the son of the late
Rupert Andrew Sr. and Rose Lindsey
Jenkins. He was employed for several
years at Piedmont Automotive and was a
member of Hills Crossing Baptist Church.
Mr. Jenkins was preceded in death by
his wife, Lucy Nichelson Jenkins; sons,
Donald and Terry Jenkins; brothers, Ray
and Harold Jenkins; two grandchildren;
and two great-grandchildren.
Survivors include daughters, Doris
Free and Linda Wilbanks, both of
Demorest, Joyce Taylor, Clarkesville,
Willene Stewart, Mt. Airy, and Kathy
Mitchell, Cornelia; sons, Jimmy Jenkins
and Leon Jenkins, both of Clarkesville,

Robert Alexander Briles, 40, of Flowery
Branch, died Sunday, January 13, 2008.
He loved fishing, video games and
the Dallas Cowboys, according to loved
ones.
Survivors include a daughter.

Briles, Gainesville; their mother, Karen
Kilpatrick, Gainesville; his mother,
Brenda Regan Jack and stepfather. Bill

Steve Carroll, 54, of Commerce, died
Friday, January 18, 2008.
He was born on November 3, 1953, in
DeKalb County, the son of the late Jimmie
Carroll and Mary Helen Hendon Crane of
Covington, formerly of Rockmart. Mr.
Carroll was preceded in death by a sister,
Debra Carroll.
Survivors in addition to his mother,
include a son and daughter-in-law, Michael
and Arleen Carroll, Hayesville, N.C.;
daughter, Stephanie Domingue, Charlotte,
N.C.; brother, J. Randall Carroll, Stone
Mountain; sisters and brothers-in-law,

January 22, in the chapel of Ivie Funeral
Home. Burial was at Jackson memorial
Park.

Rev. Robert Moon
Gainesville
The Rev. Robert Chester Moon, 96, of
Gainesville, died Friday, January 18, at
Lanier Park Hospital in Gainesville, fol
lowing an extended illness.
Bom in Cobb County, he was the
son of the late Josephus and Rachel
Ayers Moon. Mr. Moon was preceded
in death by his wife, Kathleen Moon;
daughter, Betty Tapp; grandson, Samuel
Tapp; granddaughter, Sheila Jean Tapp;
and great-grandson, Dustin Gailey.
He began his ministry at the Gainesville
C.H. Church in Gainesville in the early
1940s, and was ordained in the minis
try in 1948. He also ministered in the
Yonah C.H. Church, Rock Hill C.H.
Church, Faith Tabernacle C.H. Church,
Talmo, Flowery Branch C.H. Church and
Murrayville C.H. Church. He was a char
ter member of Faith Tabernacle C.H.
Church in Talmo, where he taught the
Adult Sunday School Class for many
years. He was retired from Milliken.
Survivors include daughters and son-
in-law, Rachel Hooper, Alto, Glenda and
the Rev. Jeff Gailey, Talmo; grandson,
Michael Tapp, Brunswick; granddaugh
ters and spouse, Vicki H. and Wendell
Sullens and LaDonna Plum, all of Alto;
grandsons and spouses, Jonathan and
Rebecca Hooper, Lawrenceville, the Rev.
Jeffery and Nita Gailey, Talmo, David
and Lisa Gailey, Lula, Phillip and April
Gailey; 14 great-grandchildren; 10 great-
great-grandchildren; and a host of other
family and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday,
January 20, at the Gainesville
Congregational Holiness Church with
the Revs. Jeffrey Gailey and Jeff Gailey
officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park
Cemetery.
