Bonnie Lou Kelly
Winder
Bonnie Lou Kelly, 51, of Winder, died
Monday, March 10, 2008.
Bom in South Shore, Ky., she was the
daughter of the late Garland Wesley and
Francis Jane Clarry Darnell, and was a
homemaker. Mrs. Kelly was preceded in
death by a son, Jason Kelly; and sister,
Brenda Howard.
Survivors include a special friend,
Gerald Racine, Winder; sons and daugh-
ters-in-law, James and Kathy Ruggles,
Nicholson, Jeffrey and Stacey Ruggles,
Portsmith, Ohio; daughters and sons-
in-law, Janie Lou and Mitchell Bennett,
Commerce, Jennie Kay and Jason Hollis,
Pendergrass, Melissa Rachel Racine,
Winder; brothers. Chuck Darnell,
Kentucky, George Darnell, Ohio; sister,
Beverly Love, Hartwell; nine grandchil
dren; and nieces and nephews.
No memorial services are scheduled
at this time.

LeRoy Wray
Winder
LeRoy Irvin Wray, 66, of Winder, for
merly of Charlotte, N.C. and Hopewell,
Va., died Tuesday, March 4, 2008.
He was bom in Hopewell, Va., the son
of Irvin and Fannie Wray
of Spencer, N.C. He |
worked with Southern
Bell and AT&T before
forming DJF Associates
in Buford, along with Dave Funderburg.
Mr. Wray was an alumni of North
Carolina State University and was a vet
eran, having served in the United States
Army during Vietnam.
Survivors in addition to his parents,
include a daughter, Lori Sullivan, Winder;
grandchildren. Summer, Zachary and
Danielle Sullivan; and a brother, Gene
Wray, Spencer, N.C.
Memorial services were held Saturday,
March 8, at Smith Memory Chapel. He
was cremated.

Ruth Royal
Winder
Ruth Royal, 86, of Winder, died
Tuesday, March 4, 2008.
She was bom in Hall County, the
daughter of the late John and Bessie
Hooper Mailey. She was a member of
the Winder First Baptist Church and
was retired front Empire Manufacturing
Company. Mrs. Royal was preceded in
death by her husband, Grady W. "Fritz”
Royal.
Survivors include daughters and
sons-in-law, Janice and Spencer Patrick,
Winder, Judy and Tony Irwin, Braselton;
grandchildren, Wesley and Rosemary
Patrick, Steven and Susan Irwin, Reid
and Chante Irwin, Jason and Dana Irwin;
great-grandchildren, William Jackson,
Seth, Noah, Nate, Cooper, Chase,
Caroline and Ben; sisters, Eva Brown,
Rome, and Lucille Garmon, Conyers.
Funeral services were held Saturday,
March 8, at Smith Memory Chapel
with the Revs. Bill Beshears and Lester
Hall officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill
Cemetery.

Patti Bagwell
Winder
Patti Bagwell, 47, of Winder, died
Wednesday, March 5, 2008.
Bom in Minneapolis, Minn., she was
the daughter of Nonna Beyatt of Winder
and the late Burton I. Beyatt. She was
employed by Wal-Mart in Winder as a
department manager.
Survivors include her husband, Janies
"Bogie” Bagwell, Winder; sons, Dennis
Knight and Kyle Kight, both of Winder;
daughter. Amber Knight, Athens; grand
children, Autumne Knight and Jasmyn
Murphy; brother, Marvin Beyatt,
Amoldsville; and a sister, Debbie Smith,
Toccoa.
Funeral services were held Saturday,
March 8, at Smith Memory Chapel. Burial
was in Barrow Memorial Gardens.

David Hardigree
Winder
David Preston Hardigree, 79, of
Winder, died Thursday, March 6, 2008.
Born in Barrow County on June
6, 1928, he was the son of the late
Robert Sidney and Naomi Carr McElroy
Hardigree. Except for a few years in
Mazatlan, Mexico, he lived most of
his life in Winder. He was retired from
Athens Regional Medical Center as a
radiological technician.
Survivors include children and spous
es, David and Susan Hardigree, Winder,
and Mark and Lisa Hardigree, Jefferson;
grandchildren and spouses, April and
Wesley Pierce, Sidney and Erin Hardigree,
Ellie Hardigree and Cason Hardigree;
great-grandchildren, Brooklynne and
Addie Pierce.
Friends and relatives are invited to join
the family in a celebration of his life at
the Statham Community Center Sunday,
March 16, between 2 and 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be
made to St. Mary's Hospice.

Hoschton
Jeffrey Dewayne Childers, 48, of
Hoschton, died Friday, March 7, 2008, at
his residence.
He was the son of Nell Childers of
Canton and was a member of Conns
Creek Baptist Church
Survivors in addition to his mother,
include his wife, Rose Maria Tumlin
Childers, Hoschton; sons, Jeffrey
Dewayne Childers Jr. and Justin Elmer
Childers, both of Hoschton; brothers,
Glenn Childers, Hardwick, and Matthew
Childers, Canton; sisters, Donna Bryan,
Canton and Linda Phillips, Mississippi;
mother-in-law, Delores Jean Pendley
Tumlin, Temple; and several nieces and
nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday,
March 11, at Conns Creek Baptist Church
with the Rev. Clyde Boling officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery.

Eula Reynolds
Hoschton
Eula Reynolds, 96, of Hoschton, died
Friday, March 7, 2008.
She was affectionately known as
"Grannie” Reynolds, was bom in Jackson
County, and was a lifelong resident of
Hoschton. She was the daughter of the
late Marshall and Ava Skelton Irvin, was
a member of the Hoschton First Baptist
Church, and was a retired seamstress with
Carwood Manufacturing. Mrs. Reynolds
was preceded in death by her husband,
Gordon Reynolds; a son. Dean Reynolds;
and three sisters.
Survivors include a daughter, Katrine
Phillips, Braselton; sons and daughters-
in-law, William and Ruby Reynolds,
Hoschton, Lyndel and Barbara Reynolds,
Winder; seven grandchildren; 11 great
grandchildren; and several great-great-
grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday,
March 10, in the chapel of Carter Funeral
Home. Burial was in the Hoschton City
Cemetery.

Eddie Cheek
Jefferson
Eddie Maude Cheek, 95, of Jefferson,
died Friday, March 7, 2008.
She was bom in Jackson County, the
daughter of the late Manley W. and Annie
Mae Wilkes Whitfield. She was a retired
chief operator with Alltel, and was a
member of the Bethany United Methodist
Church. Mrs. Cheek was preceded in
death by her husband, William Bascom
Cheek.
Survivors include a son, John William
Cheek, Jefferson; grandchildren, Courtney
Nicole Cheek, Braselton, and Kimberly
Eve Wilford, Watkinsville; great-grand
children, Lauren Elizabeth Clark and
Mary Grace Wilford.
Funeral services were held Sunday,
March 9, at the Bethany United Methodist
Church with the Rev. Johnny Ray offici
ating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Charles Wood
Dahlonega
Charles F. Wood, 86, of Dahlonega,
formerly of Hoschton, died Tuesday,
March 4, 2008.
He was bom in Oneota, Ala., the son of
the late Clyde and Elnia Craddock Wood.
He was a retired cotton warehouse man
ager and was a member of the Hoschton
First Baptist Church.
He was a veteran, hav
ing served in the United
States Army Air Force
during World War II as
a sergeant first class. He was preceded in
death by his wife, Mildred Etress Wood;
and a son, Harry Wood.
Survivors include a daughter and
son-in-law, Marie and J.C. Adams of
Dahlonega; granddaughters, Cynde
Adams and Ashley Sheffield, both of
Cumming, Kris Adams, Grand Lake,
Colo., Amy Wood, Marietta; great-grand
son, Logan Sheffield, Cumming.
Funeral services were held Friday,
March 7, in the chapel of Carter Funeral
Home with the Rev. Ricky Thrasher
officiating. Burial was in the Hoschton
Cemetery.

Annie Price
Royston
Annie R. Phelps Price, 71, of Royston,
died Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Athens
Regional Medical Center in Athens.
She was bom in Madison County on
August 6, 1936, the daughter of Mary
Sue Walls Phelps of Royston and the
late Harry H. Phelps. She was retired
from Pinnacle Bank and was a member
of the Mount Pleasant United Methodist
Church.
Survivors in addition to her moth
er include her husband, Leland Price,
Royston; son, Gary Price, Canon; daugh
ters and sons-in-law, Patricia A. and Keith
Salsman, Hoschton, and Sherri and Eddy
Fowler, Danielsville; sisters, Donnie
Barrett, Colbert, and Mary Ellen Fowler,
Royston; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday,
March 11, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral
Home with the Revs. Bob Reynolds and
Dennis Kesler officiating. Burial was in
Franklin Memorial Gardens-South.

J.T. Moore, 88, of Maysville, died
Friday, March 7, 2008, at the BJC
Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was born on May 15, 1919, in
Banks County, the son of the late George
and Cora Whitfield Moore. He was a
farmer and a member of Diamond Hill
Baptist Church. He was
a veteran, having served
in the United States
Army in combat during
World War II. Mr. Moore
was preceded in death by his wife, Sybil,
whom he loved and missed dearly; and
brothers, Thomas D. Moore and George
H. Moore.
Survivors include brothers and sisters-
in-law, Joe and Jinner Moore, Maysville,
Kenneth and Sue Moore, Flowery Branch;
sisters and brothers-in-law, Bonnie and
Aaron Cash, Chattanooga, Tenn., Barbara
Sue and Benny Holcomb, Gillsville,
Ruby and Wayne Abernathy, Lula, Reba
and Ray Aiken, Maysville; and a number
of nieces and nephews.

Jefferson
Homer Jake Merrill, 90, of Jefferson,
died Friday, March 7, 2008, at his resi
dence.
He was a native of Mars Hill, N.C., and
was retired front Olin Corporation after
38 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years.

Stephen James Thome, 58, of Homer,
died Sunday, March 9, 2008, at Athens
Regional Medical Center in Athens, fol
lowing a brief illness.
He was bom in Leaf River, Ill., on
December 21, 1949, the son of the late
Benjamin and Pauline Buisker Thome.
He was the owner/operator of Thome
Equipment Company, was Methodist, and
was a musician. Mr. Thome was preceded
in death by a sister, Karen Myers.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Jean
Caudell Thorne, Homer; sisters, Lois
Love, Pendergrass, and Myma Umphlett,
Durham, N.C.; sister-in-law, Shirley
Robertson, Homer; and several nieces
and nephews.

Bom in Barrow County, he was the
son of the late Freeman Alexander
and Louella Emmett Johnson. He was
Baptist, was retired as a carpenter and
owned his on company, and was a Mason
and a member of Rockwell Lodge. Mr.
Johnson was preceded in death by his
wife, Beatrice Martin Johnson; and a son,
Kenneth Johnson.
Survivors include sons, Gary “Blue”
Johnson, Winder, and Steve Johnson,
Covington; a daughter, Diane Sloan,
Hoschton; three grandchildren; three great
grandchildren; brothers, Cecil Johnson,
Winder, Horace Johnson, Hoschton, and
Ray Johnson, Braselton; sisters, Gaynell
