JCSO arrests
Man arrested after foot chase in Jackson County
A North Carolina man was arrested
last week after he allegedly disobeyed
officers" commands and fled on foot after
deputies suspected he had marijuana.
Roderick Bernard Lowe, 41,4412 Eaves
Lane, no city listed, N.C.. faces charges
of failure to maintain lane; possession of
marijuana less than an ounce; tampering
with evidence and willful obstruction of
law enforcement officers.
Lowe was stopped for failing to main
tain lane multiple times, according to the
Jackson County Sheriff’s Office incident
report.
Deputies smelled marijuana inside the
vehicle and saw some leaves scattered, but
Lowe denied there was any in the vehicle.
He later said he might have smoked some
earlier.
Officers asked him to be honest and
Lowe replied, “Alright, I’ll show you,” and
started to reach behind the middle seat of
the truck. Deputies told him to remove his
hand from behind the seat so they could
see them, but Lowe said he only needed to
tell them where the marijuana was.
Lowe repeatedly ignored officer’s com
mands, according to the incident report.
The deputy said he drew his pistol to a
“low ready position” and continued to tell
Lowe to show his hands.
Lowe allegedly got out of the vehicle
and pulled the seat forward to search for
the object. The officer moved his gun
to “high ready” and took cover behind
Lowe’s vehicle.
(The deputy noted in the incident report
that the vehicle’s location kept him from
using a Tazer or any other tactics.)
Lowe eventually grabbed a baggie from
the truck and took off running.
Officers ultimately caught him and
arrested him.
They found suspected marijuana on the
same route as the foot chase. Officers said
it appeared Lowe was trying to dump the
evidence before being caught.
