JCSO incidents - Braselton and Hoschton
Couple scammed with online vacation ad
A couple was scammed after responding
to an online advertisement about a 7-night
stay in Tennessee.
Jackson County Sheriff's Office deputies
were called to a New Cut Road location for
a theft by deception case.
A man said he responded to a Craigslist
ad for a seven-night vacation in Severville,
Tenn.
The couple spoke with a man by phone
and email and booked a 7-night stay at a
resort. The complainant said the suspect
emailed all the vacation paperwork. He
reportedly claimed he was a booking agent
for different resorts.
The couple sent almost $1,800 to the
suspect's email.
After three days at the resort, manage
ment called to ask if the couple had checked
out yet. Their booking was only scheduled
for three nights, despite the 7-night stay
advertisement.
When the complainant told the manager
about the online ad, they said the ad was
fake and they didn't know the suspect. She
said they never received money for the
booking.
The resort allowed the couple to stay for
three extra nights at no extra expense.
After the vacation, the couple tried con
tacting the suspect to get a refund. They
didn’t get a response.

Barrow County fire
fighters recently helped
save a house and a fam
ily pet in a house fire on
Scott Drive in Winder.
“Upon arrival, our crews
found a single story resi
dence with smoke show
ing through the front door
and back windows,” said
Capt. Scott Dakin. “All
residents were out of the
house. We entered the
structure, began an inte
rior attack, and were able
to quickly extinguish the
bulk of the fire.”
A Thermal Imaging
Camera (TIC) aided inte
rior crews in finding the
fire which was in a back
bedroom of the house.
Each BCES engine is
equipped with a TIC
which allows firefight
ers to “see” thru heavy
smoke to locate hidden
fires.
A cat was rescued from
inside the house and
was revived with oxy
gen administered via an
oxygen mask special
ly designed for cats and
dogs.
The fire was contained
to the room of origin.
However approximately
50 percent of the resi
dence received damage
from smoke, heat and
water.
The BCES Fire Inves
tigations Team was on
scene and ruled the fire
as accidental.
Two adults and three
children were displaced,
and the American Red
Cross is working to assist
those residents.

Buford man
arrested after traffic
stop, foot chase
A Buford man was arrested following a traffic stop and
foot chase in Hall County.
Jeremy Jebb Wilkerson, 32, of Buford, was charged with
aggravated assault on a police officer, fleeing/eluding,
obstruction of officers, possession of methamphetamine,
possession of marijuana, possession of drug-related objects,
speeding, driving while license is suspended, crossing guard
line violation and probation warrant for simple battery-Fam-
ily Violence Act and obstruction of an emergency call.
On Aug. 1, just after 1 a.m., Hall County sheriff’s deputies
attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Wilkerson’s car that
was observed speeding in the 2100 block of Browns Bridge
Road.
As a deputy was attempting to catch up to the vehicle, it
turned into the parking lot of the Budgetel Inn and Suites and
backed into a parking space.
Deputies approached and Wilkerson backed the car out
of the space and refused to obey the deputy’s commands.
After a few moments, Wilkerson sped out of the parking lot,
narrowly missing the deputy, according to a press release.
Gainesville police officers located the vehicle a short time
later fleeing west on Browns Bridge Road and then turning
south onto McEver Road.
Wilkerson’s vehicle experienced mechanical problems in
the area of Gould Road and came to a stop in the parking
lot of a nearby gas station, where he fled on foot for a short
distance before being arrested by deputies and officers.
No one was injured during the incident and Wilkerson
remains in the Hall County Jail without bond, pending a
committal hearing.
