BPD arrests
Two flee from police with stolen goods
A wanted man and woman were
arrested last week after fleeing from
Braselton police officers with stolen
goods in the car.
Bernicia Jemeai Sewell, 26, 76 Jen
nings Lane, Nicholson, faces charges of
willful obstruction of law enforcement
officers and three holds (out of Clarke,
Gwinnett and Hall counties) for fail
ure to appear for shoplifting charges.
Anthony Jerome Poole, 37, 94 Glenfield
Drive, Jefferson, faces charges of hold
for Gwinnett County.
Braselton Police Department officers
stopped Sewell for driving 85-miles-
per-hour on 1-85. She asked them not to
give her a ticket and said she was speed
ing because she had diarrhea, according
to the incident report.
She gave officers a fake identification
card and, when confronted about it.
Sewell fled to her vehicle and drove
away. She reportedly had a bulge on
her chest that appeared to be narcotics,
according to the incident report.
Officers followed Sewell’s vehicle as
it drove recklessly around 100-mph and
drove on other vehicles’ tailgates. At one
point when she changed lanes. Sewell’s
vehicle bumper came off, but she kept
driving towards Jefferson.
Sewell eventually stopped in the pass
ing lane on 1-85 and put on her right-turn
signal. Sewell then drove the wrong way
on the 1-85 entrance ramp off Hwy. 129.
Jefferson Police Department officers
took over the pursuit after Sewell traveled
down Hwy. 129 and turned on Concord
Road.
They eventually lost contact with
Sewell’s vehicle. A citizen got BPD offi
cers’ attention and told them the car
turned into a distribution center.
At the scene, officers found Poole walk
ing down the road. He said Sewell left
the car and was walking into the woods.
Officers spotted Sewell walking into
the woods wearing a white lab coat.
She refused to stop for officers and they
couldn’t see one of her hands.
They caught her and did a leg-sweep
to take her down to the ground and
attempted to arrest her, but she tried
talking on her phone and wouldn’t give
officers’ her hands.
Officers ultimately arrested her and
took her to the patrol car. She took off
the handcuffs before being handcuffed
again.
Sewell told officers she fled because
she has a warrant and kids at home.
Inside the duo’s vehicle, officers found
stolen goods and both Sewell and Poole
pinned the crime on the other.
Poole said the stolen goods were
already in the car when Sewell picked
him up in Talmo. He said he knew noth
ing about it.
But Sewell said Poole told her he had
some stolen items he needed to get rid
of. She said she picked him up in Talmo
and he brought the stolen goods so they
could sell them to someone she knew.
The items were reportedly taken from
a Buford Walmart.
The BPD listed the incident as want
ed person, speeding, failure to main
tain lane, following too close, reckless
driving, driving the wrong way on a
one-way. fleeing or attempting to elude
a police officer, giving false identi
ty information to a law enforcement
officer and obstruction/hindering a law
enforcement officer.
