Robert “Bob” Nolan Bell
COMER — Robert “Bob” Nolan Bell, 65, Bell’s Ferry
Road, Comer, passed away on Wednesday, December 4,
2019.
He was bom on October
20, 1954 in Orange Park,
Florida, to the late David
John Bell and Florence Mae
Miller. Mr. Bell was a gen
eral contractor in the con
struction business and also
worked as a fabricator at
Section 8 Armament in Col
bert. Robert moved with his
family from Jacksonville,
Florida, to Comer in 1984.
Mr. Bell is survived by
his wife, Fynette Coon-
er Bell; children, Robert “Bobby” Bell, Meghan Wallace
(Michael), Findsay Bell and Caitlin Deadwyler (Kaleb),
all of Comer; three grandchildren, Hayden Bell, Oakwood,
Rogan Bell, Comer, and Augustus Wallace, Comer; and a
brother, John Calvin Bell, Jacksonville, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters,
Alice Gray and Jayne Bell.
Celebration of life service: Sunday, December 15, 2019
at 1 p.m. at Bass Fake, 60 Blackthorn Road, Colbert.. The
family wants to make this a celebration of Robert “Bob”
Bell’s life. The family wants all family and friends to come
and celebrate the amazing life of this great man, brother,
husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.

ATHENS — Jo-An Black, Athens, went home to be with
our Ford on Sunday, December 8, 2019.
She was bom on March
24, 1932, to the late Joe H.
and Comilla Black. Ms.
Black retired from South
ern Bell and worked sev
eral years at the Athens
Banner-Herald. She was a
member of Commerce First
United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in
death by her parents; and
brothers, Charles H. Black,
Billy Ray Black and Tom
my Fee Black.
Graveside service: Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at
2 p.m. at Colbert cemetery with the Rev. Randy Crowe of
ficiating.
She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Corde
lia and Fawrence Tolbert; sister-in-law, JoAnn Black; and
several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Silverleaf of
Athens and Compassionate Care Hospice for their kind
ness and excellent care.

Mack Ellis Blankenship
COMMERCE — Mack Ellis Blankenship, 89, Com
merce, entered into rest Sunday, December 15, 2019.
Mr. Blankenship was bom
in Devemx, a son of the late
Henry Claude and Fucille
Osborne Blankenship, was
a veteran of the U.S. Navy,
a member of the National
Guard, Woodmen of the
World and the Dry Pond
United Methodist Church.
Mr. Blankenship enjoyed
camping and traveling with
his late wife of 64 years, El
eanor Howard Blankenship.
Mr. Blankenship was a re
tired mechanic with Fockheed Martin and Kraft Foods and
enjoyed flying, having built his own aircraft, a RV4.
In addition to his late wife and his parents, Mr. Blanken
ship is preceded by three brothers, Henry Claude, John and
Charles Blankenship.
Survivors include four daughters, Diane Bonasso (Bob),
Carolina, West Virginia, Judy Brislin (Andrew), Bishop,
Peggy Spangler, Bogart, and Sarah Trippe (Charlton),
Commerce; sisters, Henrietta Funsford, St. James, Florida,
and Brenda Wood of Mobile, Alabama; brother, George
Blankenship, Sharpesburg; brother-in-law, Wilburn How
ard, Tucker; 11 grandchildren; 18 great- grandchildren; and
one great-great grandchild also survive.
Funeral service: Friday, December 20,2019 at 10:30 a.m.
from the Dry Pond United Methodist Church with the Rev.
Grant Bright officiating with burial to follow in the Res-
thaven Cemetery in Washington. Grandsons will be hon
ored as pallbearers.

Dorothy Nettie Ann Whitsel Brawner
Dorothy Nettie Ann Whitsel Brawner, 90, of the
Bold Spring Community, passed away Sunday morn
ing, December 15, 2019, at her home.
Born September 8, 1929, in Franklin County, she
was the daughter of the late William Albert and Mag
gie Louise Hanley Whitsel. She was the widow of the
late Roy Thomas Brawner; mother of the late James
T. Brawer; and grandmother of the late Scott Brawner.
The last member of her immediate family, she was the
sister of the late Grady Whitsel, Billy Whitsel, Thrus-
ton Whitsel, Mary Lunsford, Ellie Jordan, Susie Gar
rett, Inez Roach, Valdie Ginn and Ethel Blackman.
She was a seamstress with Oxford Industries for
35 years. She was active and enjoyed the TOPS pro
gram. She was a member of Trinity Church. In her
later years she attended Hebron Presbyterian Church
whenever her health permitted.
She is survived by her son, Ben and Jean Brawner,
Commerce; two daughters, Barbara Barry, Athens,
and Maggie Craddock, Carnesville; grandchildren,
Amy Brawner, Tammy Brawner, Brian Craig, Rhon
da Chapman, Bradley Lacey, Gene Shore and Greg
Shore; and great-grandchildren, Aiden, Ali, Joshua,
Amber, Chris, Harvey, Levi, Leanna, Elijah, Isabella
and Gatlin.
Funeral service: Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at
3 p.m. at the B. D. Ginn Memorial Chapel with the
Rev. Rick Billingslea officiating. Interment will be in
Franklin Memorial Gardens North, Lavonia.

2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. The family

Ruth Mines Cannon
COMER — Ruth Mines Cannon, 83, Comer,
passed away on December 8, 2019.
She was born Novem
ber 21, 1936 in Union
Point, to the late Rus
sell and Sara (Griffith)
Mines. Ruth married her
high school sweetheart,
Harold D. Cannon, on
September 1, 1956. Ruth
and Harry lived in and
around the Atlanta area
until 1967 when Harry’s
job at the Georgia Power
Company moved them
to Comer. There they raised two daughters and be
came active members of the community. Ruth held
many positions throughout the years. She served as
city clerk of Comer in the late 1960s, was a substi
tute teacher for the Madison County Board of Ed
ucation and owned and operated a retail clothing
store, Korner Kasuals, in Comer. Her most reward
ing and enjoyable job, however, was that of wife,
mother and grandmother. With her giving nature
and love of helping others, Ruth volunteered in
many community organizations. She was an active
member and past officer in the Comer Lions Club,
a founding member of the Comer Lioness Club, a
past member of the Comer Woman’s Club, orga
nized a Girl Scout troop and served as leader, and
taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at
Comer Baptist Church, where she was a member.
Ruth is survived by her loving husband, Harold
D. Cannon; daughters, Kerry (Nelson) Nash, Dan-
ielsville, and Diane (Tim) Pritchett, Huh; grand
children, Adam Nash, and Lindsey (Justin) Byrd;
great-grandchildren, Emmerson Nash and Charlee
Ann Byrd, step-great-granddaughter, Lola Byrd;
and Ruth’s beloved Yorkie, Charley.
Funeral service: Wednesday, December 11, 2019
at 1 p.m. at Lord and Stephens, Danielsville. Inter
ment will follow the service in Comer City Cem
etery.

Lloyd D. Carter
Lloyd D. Carter, 97, husband of the late Beatrice
Carter Carter, died Thursday, December 12, 2019.
Born in Auburn, he
was the son of the late
Thomas Mackey Carter
and Ella Isabella Wil
lard Carter and was also
preceded in death by
nine brothers and sis
ters.
Lloyd was a veter
an of the U.S. Army
during WWII. During
his service he received
the Purple Heart for be
ing wounded during D-Day as he was a part of the
first wave onto Omaha Beach. He retired from Brack
Rowe/University Chevrolet after 47 years as an au
tomotive painter. Mr. Carter was a member of Hull
Baptist Church where he was very active having
served as a deacon and on various committees. He
loved serving his Lord any way he could. He loved
gardening, growing things and reading his Bible.
He is greatly loved by his family, church family,
friends and will be truly missed.
Survivors include three children, Carol (Gerald)
Lester, Kathy (Michael) Timm and Lloyd “Chip”
Carter Jr.; sister: Opal Griffin; brother-in-law: Gene
and Bonnie Carter; grandchildren: Josh, Charles,
Clayton and Jennifer; seven great- grandchildren;
and a large number of nieces, nephews and great
nieces and nephews.
Funeral service: Sunday, December 15, 2019 at
2 p.m. at Hull Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy
Crowe officiating. Interment will follow at Ever
green Memorial Park.
Family to receive friends: Saturday, December
14, 2019 from 5 until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

James Clinnie Casper
ELBERTON — James Clinnie Casper, 73,
Elberton, passed away Saturday, December 14,
2019. He was formerly of Statham.
Clinnie was an Army veteran
and served his country proudly
during the Vietnam War and was
a member of the Statham Amer
ican Legion. He retired from General Motors.
Clinnie was preceded in death by his parents,
Thomas Asbury and Laura Bell Thomas Casper;
a son, Shane Casper; three brothers, Virgil, Bob
by and Harvey Casper and three sisters, Winnie
Allison, Doris Hunter and Linda Smith.
He is survived by a son, Brent Casper, Statham;
a grandson, Damen Casper, Statham; and a sister,
Gaynelle Bentley, Winder.
Memorial service: Wednesday, December 18,
2019 at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Smith Funeral
Home with the Rev. Frank Colladay officiating.

Rebecca “Becky”Ann Hardy
Rebecca “ Becky” Ann Hardy, 48, passed away
on December 9, 2019.
Becky was born
on April 4, 1971 in
Gainesville. She was
preceded in death by
her father, Earl Har
dy. She was loved and
adored by many.
Becky is survived
by her mother, Shirley
Hardy; brother and sis
ter-in-law, Keith and
Kay Hardy; nephews,
Kyle and Lindsey Har
dy and Cole and Hannah Hardy; great-nephew,
Hayes Hardy; as well as the extended family.
Becky worked in the trucking industry for 30
years and will be missed by not only her family
and friends, but also her co-workers and truck
ing family. We will miss her love for Jesus, fam
ily and her country. Until the day we all get to
see her again in heaven, she will remain in our
hearts, thought and memories. May peace be
with all who knew and loved her. Becky Hardy
you will be greatly missed.

Donald Quinton Kelly
DANIELSVILLE — Donald Quinton Kelly died
from a massive heart attack on December 7, 2019
in his home in Danielsville.
Don was born on May 5, 1956 in Memphis, Ten
nessee, graduated high school in Commerce, and
attended vocational school.
He is survived by his loving wife, Merri Kelly;
his sons, Michael Kelly and Dale Jackson; three
brothers, Lester, Mark and Tim Kelly; sister, Karen
Slater; step-son, Wil Chapman; and step-daughter,
Charmaine Chapman.
Don was a millwright and carpenter. He had so
much skill at making and fixing things. Don was a
loving, kind and generous man. He gave freely of
his time and love to his family and friends, he will
be sorely missed!!
Celebration of life service: Friday, December 13,
2019 from 5-7 p.m. at the Commerce Civic Center,
Commerce Room.
